Did they show any new Smash logos or anything at the beginning or did they just mention it? I don't expect they did, but I'd hate to miss anything.

No they didn't. All Iwata said was that Nintendo, Sora and Namco Bandai would be working on Smash. He gave a small introduction to both Sakurai and Kobayashi (NB), and said they would have something to say together near the end.

Looks like they're doing a 3DS XL so when they make a 3DS Lite they can also make a 3DS Lite XL.

Sakurai is still the director, Sora is just working along side Namco.

It even says so in the article you linked to.

I wonder if Sakurai was referring to Namco Bandai when he said that he'd be getting some help with balance. Would make sense when you look at NB's history with other fighting games.

i feel like this Namco Bandai is helping out with Smash Bros is really going to put a really big curve ball in most people's rosters.
not only in rosters though, but in gameplay and overall moves of nintendo characters.
