Spores are unique and unused by a literal character. He uses them, not Peach.

Yeah, that's special.

He already does.

Likewise, Dr. Mario had a lot to offer and is quite different from Mario, same with every close but Pichu.(who has some stronger electric attacks and hurts himself)

Don't see why Toad would not be unique at all.
Ok, thats one thing. I still don't see Toad as a unique character.

@Holder and any other fellow Xenoblade fans

"Nintendo Power: Over the course of Xenoblade Chronicles, players explore the world so thoroughly that it doesn’t leave much room for a sequel. Do you have any thoughts as to how you might build it into a series?

Tetsuya Takahashi: Do you really think so? I always build room for sequels into all of my games.”"

So a sequel definitely isn't out of the question. That could work in Shulk's favor :smirk:

I sensed yani saying something awesome so I have popped by head back in here, and I am pleased.

Nintendo Power, you dumb. They left a lot of room for a sequel. And now after they said that I'd find it odd if they DIDN'T make one. Thanks for sharing yani! <3 :D

How?

You people think too much like Smash speculators sometimes.

Toad's still meh to me. I don't hate him, but I don't like him either
IMO, Toad is one of those characters that people are hopelessly still holding onto, praying Sakurai for some reason see's him in a different light this time around. I would bet on Junior or Mona before Toad.

He wouldn't be a one and done character, there could be even more to work with, could become Monolith's new icon etc.

edit: AND if they do have a sequel planned and help assist with Smash4 like they did with Brawl, they would most likely ask to have him in.

@Holder, Nintendo Power is foolish :rotfl:. XENOBLADE TRILOGY NAO

You kidding me? The one-and-done factor is the whole reason people objectively don't think Ghirahim is not a good choice. Being more than that is certainly a big deal. Not saying Shulk is in, or that there will be more Xeoblade (BUT PLEASE GIVE ME TRILOGY OMG), but it is a bit reassuring none the less. ^^

Sakurai is not a Smash speculator. He's a guy who looks at characters, and says "He looks cool, or, She could play this way"

Really, Xenoblade has caught a lot of attention, and, a sequel isn't going to help Shulk's chances whatsoever, ESPECIALLY not now. Not when the roster is being decided now, and in the next half a year. Which is why most people should diregard anything coming AFTER this E3.

Ghirahim is weird. Sakurai has never taken much interest in any Lo characters that arent Link, Zelda, or Ganondorf incarnations. (Or Tingle) He's as cool of a choice as Midna was for Brawl, but, she didn't get in, so...

Toad doesn't seem like an incredibly special Newcomer in my opinion, I don't see him really getting the fans excited, though I do know some people are interested in him. I also don't see him being really special whatsoever in his move set.
That describes Krom support much better than Toad. Many don't have a problem with Krom's inclusion and even like the idea. However, there are few dedicated supporters of him as of now that would be upset if he didn't make it. I'm one of those people who very much like the idea of Krom because of the possibility he would be unique (although I like Roy as well, thought the prospect of being a near guarantee lugified clone bothers me a little), but I wouldn't care if Roy made it in instead.

Toad seems to have a very dedicated fan base that really want to see Toad in Smash. If I had to say who was the most wanted Mario newcomer (not including sub-series), it would be him. Although Junior is close.

Not saying he will make it in, but I do think that Toad has a very active support fan base.

Xenoblade is two years old, so it isn't impossible that they're planning something with the series now. Likely is another story, but still.

My point was, that just doesn't matter. It doesn't.

If people would try to pull away from the Smash speculation mumbo jumbo, and look at characters for what they offer, and then look at how Sakurai thinks/treated characters in past games, this roster is pretty much written down for you. Or at least the most likely newcomers.

@Shortie: Where did Sakurai express any interest in Tingle beyond being an Assist Trophy?

That's the interest I was talking about. Oh, and he's shown up in Melee as a NPC character as well.
I think that's going to be the extent of his interest in Tingle. Playable status seems far-fetched to me.

As for your comment on the roster being written down for us, not really. There's bound to be at least a curveball no one expects and all of us are going to get at least one character wrong (whenever that is characters we don't expect that get in anyway or vice versa). Even I admit that my roster will be wrong with at least one character.

@Metal Mania: Most FE Lords are blue-haired swordsmen, so nothing is wrong with that. Also, Krom can incorporate the lance into his move set.

Okay, two or three curveballs out of the 12 - 18 newcomers, it's still pretty obvious who the true candidates are.

Not most. However, the largest minority of them are blue-haired swordsmen.

Marth: Blue-haired swordsman
Alm: Green-haired swordsman
Cellica: Red-haired mage
Sigurd: Blue-haired swordsman
Celice: Blue-haired swordsman
Leaf: Brown-haired swordsman
Roy: Red-haired swordsman
Lyn: Green-haired swordswoman
Eliwood: Red-haired swordsman
Hector: Blue-haired axeman
Eirika: Green-haired swordswoman
Ephraim: Green-haired lancer
Ike: Blue-haired swordsman
Micaiah: Silver-haired mage
Krom: Blue-haired swordsman

So out of 15 lords, five of them are blue-haired swordsman, or 1/3.

Krom? Original? We don't need another blue-haired FE Sword user. Especially one who uses Aether and Quick Draw...
Agreed. Either keep Ike or replace him with Krom.
Two of the near exact same is unneeded.

@SSBF: And Ganondorf could've incorporated his sword into his moves. Just saiyan.

Ike is my baby, but Krom looks so tasty.

I couldn't get rid of Ike though, so if it comes down to a semi-clone I wouldn't want Krom in the next Smash.

Let me count how many characters' playstyles don't make sense for them... NONE.

Hence why I care little about the clones. They all made sense overall. At worst, Lucas. But only because Ness was not made as correctly. So that's not his fault.

Ganondorf? Yeah, he's totally not strong and magical... although Black Shadow would've worked too, IMO.

The others are pretty obvious and need no explaining.

I just like uniqueness in playstyles, that's why clones have always bothered me. It's more of a personal qualm than a serious one.

Kids always remember: Build bridges, don't burn 'em. That gets you jobs, friends, and most importantly, it allowed Kojima to get Snake into Brawl! :shades:
It's because Pokemon and Digimon have -mon at the end.
Derrrrrrp. :bee:
Smooth Criminal
Well then why don't we bring up some Reggae mon=??? :awesome:
Well I don't see Mewtwo being super heavy.[/SIZE[

He weighs 269 pounds. Plus he would be so much more of a BAMF if he was a heavyweight powerful beast!
Regarding Yoshi, he has never carried any heavyweights before. Ranking him at around Mario's weight is sensible enough for my tastes.
Well he has to be pretty strong to carry around that plump plumber. Mario looks like he weighs at least around 180 pounds. You gotta be pretty strong to carry that weight around and still run ridiculously fast. Also, Yoshi needs strengths. He lacks a lot of viable moves, he has few moves that could kill, and for some reason, his recovery sucks. Unless you give Yoshi one of those strengths, don't take away this strength, or else Yoshi will go from perennial below average character to perennial bottom tier character.

Every clone save Pichu played uniquely and had their own unique moves.

And he even played uniquely enough.

So I'm not seeing an issue. To me, it's only a true clone if they play exactly the same. No different properties, except weight at best. Like Metal Mario. That one was EXACTLY the same as Mario, but he was slightly stronger and weighed more.

Although, how clone-like is too much or is acceptable?

To people playing melee: roy v marth, doc vs mario, fox vs falco, and falcon vs ganon are completely different characters despite constantly being put as clones.

They share a number of the same animations, but their unique properties of moves are completely different. Or at the very least have a very different trait that grants a move completely different functions.

Ganondorf had to face time restraints. If Krom is planned early on, I can see him gaining an unique move set. At the very worst, he would be a semi-clone with a few similarities in move sets but playing otherwise differently.

Solution; whoever gets in gets the other as an alt.
Better solution: Hype up Roy returning and Krom joining Smash while of course keeping Marth (advertise the two former like crazy), and add Ike as DLC later (for free).
Everyone who likes Marth and Roy is happy, and everyone who wanted Krom is happy. The Ike lovers are initially mad, but later are overjoyed by Ike returning. Everyone wins, and everyone is happy. Plus Nintendo, Smash, and Sakurai all get publicity. It's the ultimate win-win-win! ;) (I'm a classic over-thinker, I know!)

I think we all prefer different frames. Plus with each smash game each character feels more unlike the others, and clones are less like the characters they are based off. Literally characters like Falco, Wolf, and Lucas are a few moves away from being totally original (including frames).

Also, Melee's clones were late add-ons. Brawl's weren't (as well as Luigi in Smash 64, although that was only 1 clone). I don't think myself or others have a problem with one or a few late add-on clone characters getting in over say... trophies and extra content. That doesn't hurt anything. It adds value to the game and roster, so long as they are balanced.

Melee-wise, I would say Falco v Fox and Mario v Doctor Mario were too much alike for my tastes, as not only were their movesets similar but so were their appearance, especially for Mario. Ganon's appearance varies greatly from Falcon so I can overlook the similar moveset, it's just a personal qualm all the same though.

that's why I would be bothered with the whole Ike v Krom thing, they look pretty similar so it would be hard for me to view them as unique with a very similar moveset and appearance.

I got a feeling Krom will have enough awesome tricks up his sleeves to not be a clone of Marth or Ike. Perhaps a few similar moves, but not much beside that.
The new FE is sitting at 302k sales now.
That's probably more than most Fire Emblem games have sold worldwide. If it comes out in Australia, other parts of Asia (specifically South Korea and the various island nations), Europe, North America, and South America, then it could be the 1st Fire Emblem game to sell over 1 million units. Literally this could push the series further into the public conscious. So far what Nintendo and Intelligent Games has done with Fire Emblem 13 has been nothing short of genius business.
I'm starting to think that other than the 3 rules SmashBot had a few pages back, we have no idea how 3rd parties are truly handled.

Toad's still meh to me. I don't hate him, but I don't like him either.
I think the 3rd party list (of "considered" candidates) is anywhere from 3-12 characters (Snake and Sonic aside).

I'm talking Brawl. I'm pretty sure time constraints had nothing to do with him then.

Also in Melee, he was a clone ON PURPOSE. Time had nothing to do with that. He would either be in as a clone or not in at all.

More people need to realize this when it came to Ganondorf. Sakurai flat out said that if Ganondorf did not have a similar body shape to Captain Falcon, that Ganondorf would not have been in Melee.

^^^Which is why Samurai Goroh is the perfect character to take some of Ganondorf's play style (not move set). Of course, it would still have the Samurai Goroh flair, moves, movement, all with an awesome katana.

Meanwhile Ganondorf develops a new move set and play style (with a brand new sword [or two]), and keeps a few moves (his forward air, a modified forward B). Maybe Ganondorf should keep a few extra moves as well (a heavily modified down air, a slightly modified up B).

Exactly. He may have added Ganondorf or Ganon later, mind you.

I think Ganon/Ganondorf would've been in Brawl regardless.

However, I'm glad we got the other six anyway. I enjoyed playing as the rest of them. :)

And then My Little Keldeo gets in to prove that Battling is Magic. :troll:

But seriously, if the Lucario example is to take effect, Keldeo might have a bigger shot than people bet on.
Lucario was revealed early 2005, his movie came out mid 2005, and Brawl's roster was finished late 2005 (is that correct?).
Come now, Sakurai hasn't decided on the Roster yet, but...
Keldeo was revealed early this year, his movie will come out in the middle of the year, and Smash 4's Roster will probably be finished later this year...

I'd rather have Zoroark, Victini, Genesect, or even Krokorok before Keldeo, but there's still that to consider.

Krom should be the filler.
Or for an ironic twist of fate, make him DLC.
