I have absolutely no idea why Roy is as wanted as he appears to be. T3h phir3 never appealed to me whatsoever; the resources that would be dedicated to likely the third, or even fourth, sword user in the Fire Emblem franchise could be allocated to a character with a different weapon, or a character from a different series entirely. Diversity is never a bad thing in Smash.
Personally I think they would do that just BECAUSE of them all having a sword. They wouldn't be clones, which would also be possible: as Roy was a Marth clone in Melee, and Ike and Krom share in game battle animations quite obviously (amongst other similarities).

But I think they'll try and make them all as unique as possible, while all being very similar to each other, with just Marth and Ike as complete polar opposites.

Roy would for example resemble Marth's fighting style most, but also that of Ike (both stronger than Marth and having projectiles instead of a B charge sword). And Krom would most resemble Ike, but be faster and weaker, and having the same sort of tipper effect on his sword as Marth (hey, the blades ARE the same, or at least counter parts) a long with some skills from FE13 as his Up and Side B.

Sword characters have been extremely popular since Melee, and their lasting appeal lies a lot with the Fire Emblem characters. Therefore I think they'll do this, in a way to safely have more sword fighters in. They can try out more sword style fighting with characters like Takamaru, Samurai Goroh, Isaac, Saki, Shulk, Magnus, the 3DS samurai kid and even Ganondorf lol.

It's clear Sakurai likes weapons anyway

You do a great job at outlining the differences between the sword types, but I doubt Sakurai will use such a fine-toothed comb. If Roy really is as popular as he appears in Japan, I can see him replacing Ike alongside Krom (or another newcomer), or if this is not a factor, being omitted again in favor of just a newcomer. I certainly don't think Fire Emblem's reps will be doubled in one game.

My bias against sword-users is just a product of how most of their movesets seem to be deviations on multiple slashes and charges. Hopefully the ones we'll see in SSBU have more to offer, as Meta Knight did in Brawl (Isaac seems most promising in this regard, as well as Ganondorf, if Sakurai is willing to change an existing moveset).

EDIT: Sakurai, because any character can be given a unique moveset, but it appears he either finds it difficult or is unwilling to make them. Yes, clones are a staple of Smash, and it's understandable in cases such as Luigi and Falco, but I'd enjoy seeing him branch out in cases like Fire Emblem and Mother, when the series have more to offer than their characters' movesets indicate.

Having said that, there are two FE characters other than Roy that I'd like (Lyn and The Black Knight). Too bad, neither have much of a chance at all at getting in :urg:

I'd maybe take Lyn over Roy as well, but not Hector. He used to be so popular around here to. Now nobody cares.

Black Knight already has to compete with Ike at this point, but hey, at least red Marth looks like Zelgius. :awesome:

Ok new point of discussion, what if: all newcomers will be clones of the characters we have had since now? This is not going to happen, but make a roster with this that would satisfy you.

Clones at the next SSB4 is possible.

But obvious, smashers do not want that.

Clones already has been in Meele and Brawl,I don´t think Nintendo will change this at SSB4,but I will be happy if that happens...

Between this, Title Fight, Tekken x Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat 10 and Tekken Tag Tournament 2, my fighting game future looks really bright

Why hating on the fat Impa? Is it because she's fat?

Stop with this bull**** that thin people are the only ones allowed to be beautiful, fat doesn't stop people from loving each other.
[COLLAPSE="Fat Person"]

And he's voiced by Patrick Seitz to boot.
[/COLLAPSE]

Long as Team Ninja only gets a hold of Manthony and not touch the rest of the series with a fourty-foot pole, I'm cool with that.
Why is that exactly, and the guy that made Team Ninja nefarious got kicked out. Check out footage from DOA5. It's looking like it's trying to take itself seriously instead of just being eye candy.

As I've said before, you can argue about everyone else using their hands and feet. I guess part of the problem is that there's not enough of a visual difference in sword fighting styles save for Pit and Meta Knight. Takamaru also has the potential to use Iaido with his sword. Isn't Marth meant to be more stabby in his fighting style since he apparently uses a rapier?

For MOTHER, change up Lucas and Ness' specials (IMO, they aren't that great) and put in Kumatora, IMO.

FE13 could mean new stuff for Marth again, and I think thusfar there's a pretty clear difference in all sword characters. Link, Ike, Marth, Meta Knight and Pit fight nothing a like.

And in Smash, everyone loves swords.

Except for Ganondorf. He stares at them and calls that a taunt.

Ness and Lucas really need new specials indeed. But I'd still expect Porky above Kumatora. Not that she isn't cool, but still... Porky was in both Earthbound and Mother 3, as well as in Brawl as a boss.

And I always use Bob lol. That's if I'm not using Wang :awesome:

Lately, I've been thinking about what specials Rosalina might have if she manages to be playable...

standard - Star Beam: Rosalina charges up her star wand with star energy. The star wand will glow brighter as it's getting charged up, and Rosalina can hold the charge as well. When released, Rosalina will fire an energy orb, which appears similar to Lucario's Aura Sphere. The size and power of the orb is dependent on how much power has been stored into the attack. The move can deal a minimum of 3% damage, up to a maximum of 26% damage.

side - Luma Assist: Rosalina will bring out a Luma, and have it fly forward. Anyone who gets hit by the Luma will take damage. How powerful the Luma is is based on its color. Blue Lumas are the least powerful; Yellow Lumas are average powered; Red Lumas are stronger; Green Lumas pack the most power, and are the rarest to get.

up - Teleport: Rosalina will disappear, and reappear at a different spot. Its range is large, and is executed rather quickly. The angle of the teleportation can be adjusted, but it doesn't deal any damage.

down - Star Barrier: Rosalina will create a barrier around her, which protects her from almost every kind of indirect attack. It can also reflect projectiles right back at opponents with doubled strength. However, it has no effect against direct attacks.

Final Smash - Grand Star Storm: Rosalina will summon a large number of Power Stars, which will fall down onto the battlefield at full force. The color of the Power Stars determine their power (yellow is average; red is strong; green is very strong), but the Grand Stars pack the most power, and are the most capable of delivering KOs. The Final Smash lasts for about 10 seconds.

Kirby's New Final Smash:

Boss Kirby. :)

EDIT: This is real, too. If you beat Boss Rush in Kirby 64 without taking damage, you get a congratulations and this image slowly rotating. So it IS real.

Just wondering... If they put in alternate characters in as literal full clones as characters will they also change their name? Imagine winning as Toon Link with a Young Link alt. Would they announce the game's winner as Young Link to? I think they should...

@TheFirstPoppyBro: No offense, but I tend to prefer Ultra Sword more. Of course, I will admit that my Final Smash input for Kirby is a bit overpowered, but that's pretty much how Final Smashes operate.

Still though, you can't deny that Boss Kirby would be pretty funny. :awesome:
Unleashing all that chaos and destruction thanks to the Miracle Matter and 02 parts, and then finish with a cutesy little 'Poyo'. The image of true terror.

I swear, the Ultra Sword was made to be a FS. Every time I unleash that thing on Kirby's Return To Dreamland that's always what I'm thinking.

I still can't beat Return to Dreamland. I guess that makes me a wimp, but I just never have enough health left to completely finish.

*sigh*
Nah, you can beat it if you try hard. And their is a master quest type mode so thats something to look forward to lol.

Cutting Ike for Roy is a pretty dumb suggestion. :V

I mean like...its like making a mistake and correcting it by making the exact same mistake. V:
I agree that it's dumb. Personally, I think a FE newcomer is guaranteed, so clamoring for Roy is essentially making the mistake you detailed: adding a likely clone in place of Ike (the series' reps are not getting double in one game).

Doc was my third in Melee, but I'd never go so far as to push for his return as a separate slot. Why not make Roy an alt. costume of Marth? If a Mario alt. can throw pills and have a white sheet, Marth can have t3h phir3 and worse range.

I fear some days that this thread will slowly descend into a dark and lonely pit...

I have changed my mind about Roy as of late. Mostly because I feel Krom would be a much better selection that could serve as the balanced character between Marth and Ike. Still like Roy, but he isn't my only choice.

We've really run out of things to talk about... Cannot wait for the post-Kid Icarus: Uprising Iwata Asks feature to come. Hopefully there will be some information to help tide us over until E3.

Seriously though, Smash 4 probably won't come out for like 3 years.

We are eventually going to run out of things to talk about until some major news shows up.

Considering that Brawl's graphics are highly detailed, it wouldn't surprise me if the detailed graphics are expanded even more for Smash 4.

For one example, if Rosalina is playable, her dress may look a lot more detailed than it usually does. The drawing below may be considered as one possible input...

Yeah, I'm kinda flipping out about when that's going to come out.

Sakurai: ...

This is how most Iwata Asks interviews with Sakurai go. I'm not complaining, but I can see how the man could get frustrated with how everyone only wants to talk to him about Smash Bros.

My prediction for the upcoming Iwata Asks:

Iwata: What can players expect from the next iteration of Smash Bros.?

Sakurai: They can expect...big things. *laughs*

Fans: Big things? Ridley confirmed?!?!

Anyone going in expecting "RIDLEY CONFIRMED" is going to find themselves severely disappointed. What I am looking forward to hearing is how is he approaching both games. What direction is being taken with both titles.

I figure, Marth and Krom take top priority, Ike is next with high priority, and Roy is a "filler clone" added to beef up the roster if need be. (Like Brawl)

If Krom is chosen though, I can confidently say Roy, the king of filler characters, will not make it in Smash4.
