Bad example. Sheik was one of the most popular newcomers in Melee. By comparison, Krystal is an unpopular character in Japan from a series that is both in decline and most feel already has enough characters.
I find it funny that you always say how unpopular she is, and how popular Roy is, when my poll consistantly paints the opposite picture.

And you can't blame Roy not being voted on because he's not well known to most, because the only places my polls are posted are Smash sites.

And my example had nothing to do with popularity, simply pointing out that we've seen a similar situation.

Personally I want a new starfox character that's female, and also only want 3 so if it means being cut Idk.. I just kinda want a new starfox character in general, I think Krystal would be fine fitting the female aspect, I'm not sure what other females are in SF.

@ Golden
The difference is that Krystal is THE MOST established porn character that Nintendo owns... :troll: :urg:

@ Shortie
Your polls is only polling a small piece of the smash bros fanbase.

Also, being able to develop a Multi-Man (game) level, home run contest level (for farther hits), boss battle level, and event matches for the win (on top of the idea of making your own break the targets and board the platform level, along with of course, multiplayer versus stages).

I find it funny that when I post negative things about Krystal he turns around and tries to say something negative about Ridley or Roy.

Get some new material.

Also, its only your poll where I have seen Krystal get decent support. Everywhere else, there seems to be little interest for Krystal in Smash Bros. On NeoGAF, there was a mini-poll in the topic, and Krystal failed to get a single vote. On GameFAQs, people echo many of the same sentiment that people have already said about Krystal.

Also, if you are going to bring up Roy again, of course Roy is not as requested as many other characters in the West, but he is definitely the most requested Fire Emblem character, and definitely among the Top 3 most wanted characters in Japan.

Sakurai is also aware of Roy's international popularity, even citing a story about how a black man personally thanked Sakurai for including Roy in Melee.

Older post, but still...
What exactly went WRONG with Brawl's balance? With Melee, sure, there is a BIG GAP between which characters are GOOD, and which character are just okay (Competitively), but it least it had some balance. Where the **** did Brawl go wrong?
In all of the major Brawl tournaments, only Snake, Diddy Kong, and Meta Knight win. In the lesser but still big tournaments, maybe 5 other characters can win tournaments.

With Melee, Fox, Falco, Marth, Sheik, Jigglypuff, Peach, and Captain Falcon mains have all won the major tournaments. Mains of several characters going down to Young Link (in the mid bottom; he is a good counter character) have also been successful and won many smaller but still large tournaments. Heck, Taj uses Mewtwo fairly successfully at tournaments, and he is a bottom tier character, although his Marth is a BEAST!!!. (seriously, Taj is the definition of "clutch")

And Hex always has an interesting idea that flabbergasts me!

Yes, I needed an excuse to say that word! :smirk:  :reverse: :awesome:

Also, I am feeling a lot more Toise-like vibes from Shortie than usually... !

Why don't you guys discuss what she can contribute. But no, we have to focus on this stupid *** discussion.

Yeah I would love some Little Big Planet-esk stuff... that is accessible and easy (yet perhaps complex) in terms of stage builder.

Also, it would be awesome if you could make event matches and transfer them over to other people. I remember reading and agreeing with such ideas (I think by Kirby King) pre-Brawl. Heck, a lot of what Kirby King said pre-Brawl that didn't make it in Brawl would be awesome. You guys should go look up some of his blogs.

I noticed something while looking back at all my polls.

2010's top newcomer: Mewtwo
2011's top newcomer: Ridley
2012's top newcomer: King K. Rool

Of course, 2013's going to be VERY DIFFERENT, because we'll probably have a decent number of the newcomers revealed, and chances are one of those three will already be known to be playable.

I have a feeling Mewtwo is going to be shown on the Dojo and not be a hidden character next time. He is one of the most wanted characters for Smash 4 both in Japan and the West, so he would be a good hype character to put on the Dojo. Though I wonder if he will be grouped with the newcomers or the veterans if/when he is revealed on the Smash 4 Dojo.

If Mewtwo gets back in(I'm sure he will), I'd say they should keep him hidden to make it all the sweeter once we find out he's playable. Hype and all.

Yeah, I think having retro characters and (revealed) 3rd party character as "secret" characters is best. Of course, by that I mean all the 3rd party characters would have been announced, but you still have to unlock them. Maybe have 1 secret "WTF?" 3rd party character... like Pac-Man, Bomberman, etc.

Personally, I agree that Mewtwo should be a starter. I also think that so should Captain Falcon and Ness. I think that all the other Brawl hidden characters are fine as hidden characters, with maybe the exception of R.O.B.

I hate Samurai Goroh, because then I have to make Captain Falcon a starter. Which makes me want to make Ness a starter. NESS AND LUCAS BOTH STARTERS?! So dumb.

Agree'd

Also I think there should be hard characters to unlock

That way you feel rewarded when getting a character, and you don't have everyone having the same character, it's unique and cool in my opinion, rewarding someone who did something great.

Nah, I think all but maybe three to five newcomers should be starters. Most of the newcomers were starters, like in Brawl. I think that basically the next to confirmed characters should be hidden.

My idea:
Starters:
-All but 3-5 newcomers.
-Mario, Peach, and Bowser.
-Donkey Kong.
-Link, Zelda/Sheik.
-Samus/Zamus.
-Yoshi.
-Kirby.
-Fox.
-Pikachu, the Pokémon Trainer, Lucario. (Mewtwo would fit here)
-Captain Falcon.
-Ness and Lucas.
-Ice Climbers.
-Ike (especially if it's based off his Radiant Dawn appearance).
-Wario.
-R.O.B.

Hidden:
-All 3rd party characters (they could have been announced in the game, but you still must unlock them).
-3 to 5 newcomers.
-Luigi
-Diddy Kong.
-Toon/Young Link and Ganondorf.
-Meta Knight and King Dedede.
-Falco and Wolf.
-Jigglypuff.
-Marth. (Roy would most likely be hidden for a super shock surprise!)
-Mr. Game and Watch.
-Pit.
-Captain Olimar.

@syrup I dont know about brawl but melee had some hard characters to unlock. (I myself thought mewtwo was difficult at first.)

Also, I like how John put it, but I'd like to have Mewtwo stay as a nunlockable.

Yeah the Mewtwo unlocking process was dumb. I think Brawl's was a bit easy with most (Jigglypuff, Wolf, and Toon Link's was kinda dumb), but was mostly right. I think the current formula would work... if there were a few more harder ones (like playing 500 total offline versus matches and beat Adventure Mode with 10 characters).

Dang that would be difficult but if they made up for it with a character that was worth it than I'd be happy.

Yes, **** characters are fine as long as they contribute something.

Welp, guess Goomba is a good candidate. It can provide an interesting gimmick ("Look Ma! No hands!") despite being a poor decision in regards to being deserving.
But who honestly gives a **** about that? Goomba's a unique ******* with a fighting style yet to be used.

Nah, 500 matches or beat 10 character's adventure/classic mode would be easy. To unlock Mr. Game and Watch in Melee, you needed to play either 1,000 versus matches and beat either every other character's Classic or Adventure Mode. Heck to unlock Mewtwo you either needed to play 100 total hours of versus mode (it could be doubled, tripled, or quadrupled with 2-4 controllers) or play 900 versus matches... :psycho:

Also, the "Past Stages" in Melee were way too hard to unlock. In Brawl, they were perfectly easy/difficult to unlock.

@ Golden
The point is I want to play as a character that would INSPIRE ME to play the game and has either a personality I like or no personality (think Link).

Also, Gigggyas could be an altnerate outfit for Mewtwo... :troll: ...even if he has no clear body... :psycho:

Mewtwo being a starter is a huge, HUGE turnoff for me

I don't care if he gets revealed early, but I actually want to EARN my most wanted character, just like in Melee

Nope, I mean Giygas.
Similar design = similar moves

After all, Giygas is much different in abilities. Hell, his "gimmick" could be that you can't understand what his moves are.

Giygas with a mind**** style of fighting.

Yes, but I think marketing-wise it would create hype. I remember playing Melee at Game Stop and EVERYONE wanted to play Mewtwo. MEWTWO, MEWTWO, MEWTWO! Once I played a 4 player all Mewtwo match, and none of us arranged it that way. Having Mewtwo as a starter would make people immediately interested in the game. However, if he was revealed before the game was released and was a "Secret" character, I would be fine with that.

Plus the way I see it, I bought the game with my hard working money. I earned everything on the game... :awesome:

You're forgetting one key thing though. A goomba is like 1980 Pacman being a playable character. You couldn't translate them over in a way that will give you full fledged fighter OR the way they work would require reworking the game as it is, and we don't need the opponents to be ghosts and have power pellets everywhere.

Want to make any bets? I'm pretty sure I can make a complete moveset for Goomba.

If Arc can make a Meowth moveset with 3 versions of "Payday," I can make a moveset for that booger Goomba or really any random booger.

But seriously, Goombella (I think that was her name) from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door would be a great assist character for Paper Mario or a funny Assist Trophy character. She could describe to you what all the enemies' strengths and weaknesses are, and even headbutt opponents 1 to 20 times! :awesome:
