Super Smash Bros. 4's Top Roster Candidates v2

Super Smash Bros. 4 has been announced and the one thing that pops into almost everyone's head is which character they want to see in SSB4. Another thing that the fans are curious about is who are the most popular roster candidates. This should give a good insight on what the fans want to see and who are the most popular candidates.

In order to participate, post your votes via thread post and I shall go through and tally the numbers. Each day, you are allowed to vote for up to five candidates (only one vote per candidate) until the voting has ended (you are free to vote for a different candidate the next day). Then whoever comes out on the Top 20 will be in a showdown of who is the most wanted in which the Top Five will be declared the "Most Wanted Character" for SSB4. When this come, you only get to pick one candidate.

Rules:
1. Follow the rules of the site. I cannot stress this enough.
2. Respect the choices that others have made. You may not like a character's choices, but you do not have the right to flame what the person choose. They made the choice and it stays.
3. You are free to suggest additions to the roster, but if they have not appeared on a Nintendo console or did not appear in a video game, I will not add them to the list. Note that I will not restart the day just because I add a character.
4. Don't vote a character because you expect them or to troll the roster. Likelihood =/= what you want. Understand that this is purely for what you want to see, not what you think is likely to happen. And if you think trolling the poll is a good idea, not only will your votes be taken away, I will also report you for trolling.
5. Since this place is on GameFAQs, Smashboards, and Youtube, I hold you all to a honor system in which you only vote in one of these places per day to make sure the results are accurate.

Failing to comply with the rules will result in losing your votes and the ability to participate in this poll.

[COLLAPSE="FAQs"]How long will this round last?
This will be from December 1st to December 31th, 2011.

What about for the Top 20?
That will be from January 1st, 2012 to January 31th, 2012.

Will you provide updates as the thread goes on?
Yes and they will be daily.

Where are you hosting this event?
In here, GameFAQs, and Youtube.

Stop trying to screw around with my Yoshi. I get the feeling that most people who suggest improvements for Yoshi don't actually play Yoshi, and they just want to make him like characters they're more comfortable with.

Or maybe I just don't want to accept that Yoshi is actually total balls when not fighting against stupid computers.
FYI Yoshi is one of my mains. Brawl records said so. ;)

I just wanted him to be a bit better... maybe a bit more viable for tourney play.

@ChronoBound: Meh, I prefer Knuckle Joe as the 4th Kirby rep, but the only reason why his chances aren't zero is his AT status, but even that won't be enough to get him in due to being a minor generic enemy. Also, I trust Sakurai to separate from dumb requests and worthy newcomers.

Most people in regards to Smash Bros. are laughably dumb. That is why I shudder at the thought of Sakurai holding another public poll for Smash 4, especially considering most of the logical and well known Nintendo characters are already playable.
This is true. But I think there are enough, at least logical, Nintendo characters to make a somewhat reasonable poll, although I do think it would end up being smaller than past polls, of course.

Also, no one has anything to say about Waddle Dee?
Not really sorry. I don't have RtDL yet so to be fare I'd rather not make any major judgements about a character I know little about.

I do agree though, based on what I've seen, he's the next, if not last, possible Kirby rep to add.

There's a reason Waddle Dee is playable in Kirby Returns to Dream Land and not Knuckle Joe. :troll:

I can see there being a minor push for Waddle Dee, Knuckle Joe, and Magolor. Waddle Dee due to Return to Dreamland, Knuckle Joe due to Assist Trophy in Brawl, and Magolor due to being a villain.

It helps that Waddle Dee is the playable in some of the games. And is notable too.

I agree with Try-Hyphen, he's the only one that isn't a stretch when it comes to character choices.

IMO, I prefer Kamek over Shy Guy, but either could work. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a regular Mario series character before a Yoshi or Wario one, though.(I'd like all three, and DK too)

Well just for the record, the same Waddle Dee that was in RtDL was in a character in Super Star and was also given a larger role in Super Star Ultra (Return of the King mode).

So this particular Waddle Dee is slowly becoming a main character in the series. Whether or not that warrents him a spot, I'd rather not get into, but I do think he's the next, if not last, possible Kirby rep.

Am I the only one showing some Shy Guy love? Kamek would be SO BORING, though... All you'd see are the same spells in different directions... Shy Guys running around would he flying, shooting, stabbing, and smashing people with stilts.

Its a shame that Kirby's Return to Dream Land has been ignored so much. I personally think its the best Kirby game in the past 10 years. The co-op is ridiculously fun and fixes some of the issues that New Super Mario Bros. Wii's one had.

On the topic of Yoshi, as others have mentioned, there are no stand-out characters from that series aside from Kamek (which is simply the Japanese name of Magikoopa). I think there are other ways the Yoshi series can get more content aside from getting another character (which is not needed at all). Heck, the last game in the Yoshi series was back in 2006, so its no an active series either.

Edit: I changed my avatar to hopefully bring more awareness to Return to Dream Land.

@ChronoBound: Return to Dreamland sounds pretty good to me. There are many games I want to get (for PS3 and Wii), but I'll likely only be able to get one, maybe two.

I only got two games this year. Return to Dream Land is one of them. However, the value of it is not as good if you don't have friends or family who are willing to play a cutesy game with you. Like I said, the co-op is done much better than in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

I am planning on getting Skyward Sword too. However, I am bit concerned that SmashChu has called it the weakest of the 3D console Zeldas.

I would have picked up Ocarina of Time 3D, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 if I had bought a 3DS, but as I mentioned earlier that damn second analog stick add-on scared me away from purchasing it after the price drop.

I don't see what the big deal with the analog attachment. Gives us more games to play on it. Does it look unergonomic, yeah, but I typically don't play handheld games for extended periods of time.

As for the games I've gotten this year:

OOT 3DS
SF64 3DS
SSF4AE (DLC patch)
MvC3
Tekken 6

Kind of surprising when I think about it. I've been so content playing fighters that I don't feel the need to get new games. Talk about your replay value.

Speaking of which, one of the fighting games people are talking about a lot lately is Skull Girls. This game is looking to provide one of, if not the, most in-depth tutorial for 2D fighters which makes sense as it's pretty much the last genre to provide such tutorials. What do you think Smash should do to teach people how to properly play and enjoy what's beyond the surface level?

It does seem that way. HAL has put him in the last two games they made.

My only concern with the character has been the fact that he is still a basic enemy. But I would have him just for that Spear moveset. So much fun!

Aware of the awesomeness

Return to Dreamland is good if you like Kirby games. It actually does a good job of meeting some of the other great Kirby games like Super Star. My only complaint is that you never really see normal bonkers and the powers are kind of segmented (as you don't see X power until X world).

If you want, I'll go into why Skyward Sword isn't that good. As I've said, if you liked Spirit Tracks, you'll like this. It is also one of the smallest Zelda games ever.

smallest because there are only 3 dungeons... keep in mind that they intended for all of hyrule to be one big dungeon as well. did you even savor each moment? did you skip through the overworld to get to where you needed to go? did you upgrade things?

Doesn't change the fact that it is just small. The main areas are smaller than any dungeon and the actual dungeons are probably half of a floor. There is not that much too the game and most of your time is spent looking for trinkets. If you buy a player's guide, you could speed run this.

Come to think of it, I remember hearing in a review or two that the way they treated the whole game was like Metroid in how you backtrack once you get this or that item to see more parts of the area. I kind of like that idea. IDK if there was any technical reason behind this, but I'd like to see more games explore Metroid's backtracking concept more.

I'll have to see how this is implemented in Skyward Sword.

Only 3 dungeons? I'm betting there's one for each goddess?

Also how many, and how long are the cutscenes for the game? As if I remember correctly, Nintendo was bragging about them.

@Mario and Sonic Guy: Not exactly. Shy Guy has much more potential than Koopa. Simple as that. They aren't even on the same level.

:phone:
The Shy Guy species doesn't exactly have any notable members though. General Guy is a Paper Mario exclusive character, and is mainly a one time only deal.

Yoshi and Toad are unique individuals, and have been notable enough to be represented as playables. Of course, Toad does have Bowser Jr. to contend with.

Just to get this straight, there are better choices than Shy Guy out there. But we all have our likes and dislikes.

I think Yoshi is fine as is. I actually play proficiently as Yosh even when I play against other human players.

I've actually seen someone suggest Koopa the Quick(the Koopa you race in SM64) for Sm4sh on Youtube. I thought that was so stupid. I also saw someone suggest Naruto and PETER ****ING GRIFFIN for Smash! So I said, "You've gotta be kidding." And he said, "No. I'm very serious." So I was like WTF?! Yep. Some people on Youtube are just SO STUPID!

Are Shy Guy's arms and legs even long enough to punch/kick?

@Chrono I'm almost positive Nintendo announced they'll never make a remodeled 3DS with the second analog.

Games I've purchased this holiday season so far:
Mw3
SM3DL
Halo:CEA
Battlefield 3

Waiting on Skyward Sword, MK7. Also need to pick up Kirby and DKC:R. ALSO waiting for MP9 but that's Q1 2012.

You could say the same about Toad or Kirby. Plus, like with Pikachu, who said they have to punch? As for kicking... You do remember Strikers, right? Shy Guy is one of the partners for each player. So I really don't see this as an issue.

~Hello
you can call me sparky
so... who are users I should be looking out for (as in: who knows what they are talking about)?

hmmm.... I took the liberty to check myself... so... StarPhoenix, ToiseOfChoice, i saw a lot of bickering between these two users KumaOso and SmashChu... but does not demonstrate much, only that they can provide a good debate (that's debatable), ChronoBound, umm.... lots of things were repeated... i suppose that's to be expected.

i just took a bunch of random numbers and searched for them... didn't see much... oddly enough, i came across a point when the thread was locked... what the H? you shouldn't be derping... or is this thread so boring at times that you can't resist? i'm sure im just scrapping the surface on the smart/logical ones.

Sakurai is playing MW3, how ****ed is the next Smash Bros?
Holy firggen crap!!!! o.O The world is over. A Japanese citizen is playing a first person shooter that doesn't involve RPG stuff or Square Enix. SOMEBODY ARREST THIS MAN! :awesome:

No really, even though I don't like Modern Warfare (CAMPY!), I think he deserves to have time to enjoy playing a few games. The man worked his butt off on Melee. (the Greatest Game of All-time in my books!)

If I was Sakurai, I would severely limit or stop my Twitter posting once a Smash 4 trailer is revealed. At least avoid posting about Smash 4 much.

Kind of the charm of Smash. How much did you guys expect Ice Climbers or even ROB.
I agree (although all the Wario Ware characters aren't main characters... but then again neither was Pichu or Dr. Mario).

I want Kamek.

He has a HUGE moveset potential. She can summon goombas or burning shy guys or something
I think every person ever wants Kamek as a "WTF?" character. I can't believe the Mario Kart series dropped Kamek. Kamek is too damn awesome to drop!

Plus summoning enemies is just the tip of the iceburg as to what Kamek could do. If you think about it, Kamek could be the first true magician character in smash. That's not counting psychics, which are different. :reverse:

Come to think of it, I remember hearing in a review or two that the way they treated the whole game was like Metroid in how you backtrack once you get this or that item to see more parts of the area. It could be interesting. Metroid Prime 1, 2, and 3 didn't have the biggest over world or locations, but the way they changed or how they were used was epic. Each time you went to a location it felt fresh (at least to me). The entire environment in those games was... enthralling... enchanting... and exciting.

If Skyward Sword was made with a lot of replay value (aside from beating the game multiple times), you should be able to collect a crap ton of stuff and go through each area in different ways. Each area should change every time you visit it, or have a ridiculous amount of secrets that make you want to keep playing the game (like Donkey Kong 64' secrets, but with the awesomeness of Batman: Arkham City). As long as the world doesn't feel like "empty space" after you beat the game like Twilight Princess felt like. Seriously, there was nothing to do after collecting all the bugs, hearts, and the pit of 100 trials. Those features were nice, but more stuff felt needed. I dunno why, but A Link to the Past and the original Legend of Zelda's over world were always the funnest to just mess around on Maybe that's because those enemies actually do a noticeable amount of damage.

Edit: Apparently on Youtube you can livestream the world championship of Star Craft 2. Huh... I never knew people still played that game... :troll:

I love how you people are just hounding Sakurai's Twitter for new scraps of info like vultures
I'm just interested in what kind of posts he makes. I read some of his magazine articles when he did like weekly articles for Famitsu because his opinions are interesting (like the opinion he has that he roots for everyone, and that the loser should enjoy competitive games, too). He truly is a unique and interesting guy. I mean, how many developers made their first video game they were in charge of while they were a teenager=??? o.O

Also, this needs to not be a requirement for a character to be in smash like it was in Brawl. :awesome:

They're both awful choices in the end.

Meow. Agreed.

Also, no one has anything to say about Waddle Dee?
BANDANA DEE is an interesting choice IMO. I love his spear attacks~

As for games I bought this year...

Pokemon Black
Soul Calibur II
BlazBlue CS
Nintendogs plus CATS
Return to Dreamland
Tingle's Balloon Fight

I intend on buying Skyward Sword, Mario Kart 7, Supae Mario 3D, and... maybe Melee.

But that's it....until the Wii U comes out :troll:

Wait... Call of Duty has actual characters with actual personalities=???
I thought everyone in those games was as stale as Waluigi. :troll:

You know what needs to be in super smash bros. again=???

THIS!!!

Fun Fact: Mega Man, Bowser Jr., K. Rool, Samurai Goroh (his Brawl assist trophy picture), and that banana guy from Donkey Kong are the first characters to come up on Google Images when I typed in "characters who need to be in smash bros" When I type in "super" right before "smash bros", only Mega Man, Samurai Goroh (again his Brawl photo) and Bowser Jr. showed up. When I type in "characters not in super super smash bros" Ridley in his Brawl classic form showed up.

Google Images is predicting the (super) smash bros. 4 roster cunf1rm3d=???

What are you talking about? No character showed up other than the veterans. Lol.

Plus.... The word "need" is used

So don't count on it :p

Off topic: Can anyone double jump irl? (Lol iblis)

Off topic 2: UGH. I still don't have UMvC 3..... I need to wait for about a month. I tried checking shoryuken's Phoenix Wright discussion and... Some people say Wright is good BUT some people say Wright is bad... Most people say that his projectiles are astounding BUT UltraDavid and some people think his projectiles are ***. Jesus.. It seems like Wright has a really steep learning curve but I'm up for the challenge. The only thing I know so far is that in investigation mode, just find evidence, assists, maya's shield --> Courtroom mode. In courtroom mode, it's either zone/punish with objection, TAC, or combo into objection. I'll have to get the game to know which is the right move to use then... in turnabout... switch character and use dat break the witness assist.

Meah, Kamek is a great character. Just play Super Mario World 2 folks. It's way better than Super Mario World in my opinion. Maybe you all are too old to remember Super Mario World 2, but I remember it well. It ate my life...
I intend on buying Skyward Sword, Mario Kart 7, Supae Mario 3D, and... maybe Melee.

But that's it....until the Wii U comes out :troll:
Wait Shortie, are you saying you don't own Melee=??? Don't tell me you've never owned Melee and Brawl is your only smash bros. game...
What are you talking about? No character showed up other than the veterans. Lol.

Plus.... The word "need" is used

So don't count on it :p

Off topic: Can anyone double jump irl? (Lol iblis)
Well I was obviously discounting all characters playable in smash before or photographs of multiple characters.
Plus you never know. If Google Images gets all of those right (especially the Banana Guy!) I am using Google Images to guess the roster for all future smash bros. games.
That or I will obtain psychic powers to infiltrate Sakurai's brain to find out the roster-and not share my knowledge, mwyhahahaHA! :awesome:

And yes, I double jump all the time. Heck, I don't take my dog on walks; I take it on wavedashes! Brawl players take their dogs on random trips!

When I moved out, I took Brawl (Because I bought it) and left Melee for my brother. Biggest mistake ever made. Good thing I have SSB64 with me as well. Melee > 64 > Brawl IMO.

Wavedash is possible.... IF you have slippery shoes or you're on ice.

Anyone smart enough to reply to that spoiler?
