So, if you post that up on SRK and get those guys to actually register, there could be a $20 entry tourney at Intel for SF4, MvC3 or w.e the game of the month is, which will run lots of different free events (with payment of venue fee, you're in for everything) with free food, free drinks, lots of free swag (grab bags of stuff) as well as a LOT of raffles.
Lots, and lots, and lots of free merch is given away every time Lanfest holds and event, so whoever wants to go has a pretty good chance of basically just getting free junk, which can range from a free top of the line Pentium processor, to a graphics card, to a whole computer, on down to mice/keyboards/headsets and stuff.
Edit: all that's required is someone to run the events, such as creating brackets, setting up systems and labeling them, etc. Typical tourney junk

Prizes would NOT be money, because it is for a fundraiser, and so they can't actually give money that's being "donated" away.
They can give away merchandise, and I'm speaking with the guy running it about maybe doing the White GC controllers as prizes, other things are up for debate but it's currently a toss-up between those, or some pretty decent headsets.
It's an event that's hard to describe, but it's basically like a Ninja Monkey sort of thing with 150+ people in attendance, and instead of a day pass being $25, it's a weekend pass, and you get lots, and lots, of free stuff.

Check my response to Nolan's quote about my going to Kelly's. Either way, it'll make the Christmas session that much better. After all, we need every inkling of self-esteem we can get; what kind of losers would we be for playing really old video games on Christmas Day?

I'm planning on hosting a fest Thursday.
I am definitely buying the Valve complete pack. Is there anything else you recommend for me in particular? Perhaps some kind of pack that has popular, well-known games (after all, that's what I want to do) other than the Valve pack? Indie games won't do it for me.
yeah, i'll go to your fest if you host one. but around 8 or 9 pm I would either (1) go to Kelly's and meet up with the SFIV community and play a bit, or (2) you should invite them to your house, or (3, the worst option) let them have their fun at Kelly's and keep to ourselves at your house.

shadow we saw a tourney in las cruces. it looked peachy. then we found out the host lied about the venue and therefore everything else in the post. so it wasn't worth the risk at all.
come to the LAN thing if it happens. it's going to be run professionally, i.e. dekar hasn't sent them an email saying he's throwing a tournament there and then created a tournament listing for it without any confirmation. bring LC. no johns.

If you're referring to the Dr. PeePee video, you're a good man. What makes me laugh about that video (aside from the ****
) is the fact that Tubes could have prevented the JV5 at the last second - he could have wallteched and up+B'ed towards the stage (i.e. towards Dr. PeePee), and thereby grab him and deal some damage.Also, this is to EVERYBODY who was at the last fest I hosted. Somebody took an extra black GCN controller (it was Cameron's, not mine) and now he's getting on my case about it. It should have a grip on it, no external markings, and a somewhat loose control stick (and maybe C-stick too, I'm not sure though).
I suspect it got mixed up with all the other black GCN controllers, e.g. August's, mine (even though it doesn't have a grip), or either of the twin's. Please check before I suffer a horrible death.
