This is a tough one.
a sharp pain near the bottom of my ribcage, on the left. all day. I feel it most when I breath in deeply and when I walk/move around.
Based on these symptoms alone, I would immediately point to three possibilities.

1) Musculoskeletal injury. As you know, moving an area afflicted by a strain/sprain/fracture/etc. is painful. Likewise, since you experience pain while moving around or breathing (i.e. your ribcage is expanding), then your bone or muscle tissue could be damaged.

2) Lung damage. The lungs extend all the way down to the end of the ribcage, so there's a chance the smooth muscle of your lung tissue was damaged. Environmental factors could cause this, like standing next to a smokestack all day.

3) Liver problems. The location you're describing is called the Right Upper Quadrant (RUQ). This famous area is especially important for doctors, as it is where the good ol' liver is located. Again, I would attribute this to environmental factors, like a dangerous diet. I'm less convinced on this one, especially because with your good age and health, liver problems should not be occuring.

I don't recall doing anything that could cause any damage and there's no outward appearance of injury, like bruises or anything.
Well, ****. What you just said basically ruled out everything I mentioned earlier. All three diagnoses necessitate a bruise of some kind (except for the lung one, but you would know; you would have trouble breathing).
Does it help to alleviate the pain when you double over? Sounds like a hernia to me.
Steven is right. A hernia is plausible.
The pain is basically nonexistent except when I'm moving around, so... No, it doesn't alleviate the pain anymore than not doubling over.
Hernias are notorious in that (1) movement does not always cause pain, and (2) there doesn't have to be an external appearance of injury.

Honestly, I'm at a loss for this one. Depending on the nature of the pain, I would either wait it out or go to the doctor ASAP.

I wish you the best of health, as always. Hope you can make the fest tomorrow.

Well, the healthcare professional's left and right is inverted in comparison to the patient's left and right. Medicine is dumb like that.
Hey, thank physics for inertial reference frames!
Long story short, if the pain is closer to your left arm, then yes, your liver is still a risk factor.

EDIT: I'm really dumb and I should never be a doctor ever.
EDIT2: Ignore me for all medical needs. Ronald's the new guy in town. He's been applying to med school anyway.

Actually that just sounds like its the muscles were either pulled/strained or torn. That has happened to me on numerous occassions. Best option is too just relax and maybe apply some ice/heat in rotation (10 minute intervals).

This is what I was thinking too. It is probably a popped/torn ligament/tendon. My chest popped one time when I was stretching and it felt like a knife poking me everytime I moved or breathed deeply. I went to bed and woke up fine the next day though.

Actually August's symptoms are almost exact to what I was feeling. Hopefully you just have the same thing August. :( It should go away soon.

Sweet deal Kyle! I hope he does really well. :)

So...if anyone has $20-30 I could borrow, I would be VERY, very appreciative. I cannot pay you back right away though...but it would be extremely appreciated. It's for a very personal reason, so..yea. But even if you all pitched $5 each or something...it would be really helpful to me. Let me know if you can help. I will pay you back, but I will need to get a job first, so probably not until January or late December...haha, and if everyone gives me $5, I'll give everyone who gave me it $10 back when I get the job I need for it. Anyway, let me know as soon as you can. I will need it by probably Tuesday at the very latest. I can meet you somewhere too or come to your house, whatever.

I can pitch you the full $30 tomorrow; I'll be at UNM in the early afternoon. If that doesn't work, I suppose you can stop by my house any other time Monday.
Give me a call and we can arrange for it.

Oh wow...Neil, thank you so much. I am truly grateful. Maybe I can get it from you tomorrow morning before you get there, or while you're at school. Either or...I'll call you tomorrow morning around 8:30 to figure it out. But in the morning would probably work best...oh man. I cannot even find words to express my gratitude.

Don't mind tekkie. He's been following us for some time now. We'll lose him in Soccorro. No worries, he won't bite off your finger for this prize, Erich.

EDIT: Daaaaaaang. Just watched an apex interview with PB&J. He mentioned David and I getting top 5 at an international. <3 ya PB&J haha.
