Thanks for the matchup post Susa! I'm glad that you got to feel the power of the up angled forward tilt muhaha. I could comment on how Snake's ftilt is stupid strong but that subject was beaten to death 2 years ago.

No matter how hard I try to get away from playing this character, it won't happen ><. I didn't do that good but I'll do better next time too, this was my first time even playing the game outside of training mode since Apex.

Yeah... Double dtilt doesn't work on Ike, snake, mk, and MAYBE one or two others. If I get the trip, it wins... But oh well.

I see what you mean by that. It's just slow enough for the insane speed of some characters.

UPWARD FTILT IS SO GOOD!!! OMG!!

@avarice, good job! Better than I've done (haven't gone to a tourney in literally 1yr now)

It was just a college tourney and I got taken out twice by Kirds (good iceclimber main) otherwise I may have placed 1-3 lol. A2ZOMG said I should ask Yinky for ic advice, I feel like I know what to do but it's so hard to beat an ic main who can cg you to death no problem. Anyhow, fun tourney, got 1st in doubles as well with SRK (he plays dk, snake, and rob- he went mainly snake). Good job getting 1st Kenny! Your Ness and Diddy are too legit.

I played well but don't let my high placing fool you, I received a fortunate bracket so i think I placed a bit higher than I should have (had the brackets been seeded more appropriately). However I'm happy to have Ness in a top 8 spot at such a large tourney! Only lost to Tearbear and Larry and I felt good against both of those players, I am definitely getting much closer to beating them.

Eight people got qualified for the final Bracket. Two on Friday and Saturday and four on Sunday. I qualified on Sunday (this means at least a top 4 in that day, that had 49 people). First part of the tourney was Single Bracket and the final part was Double Bracket.
Also, the bracket in the 1upsmash website is wrong, I actually lost to Hokage's ROB 2x1 (he is tooo good).

I was there to advise FOW a little bit before some of his matches, I'm real proud that he went Ness for ALL of his bracket matches (except for one mk on the last game vs Larry lol, but by that point it was already over). He definitely would have beaten M2K if the venue had not been moved and matches delayed for four hours. He was playing so stellar I'm positive he would have beaten m2K and then Larry if necessary, had the venue not been moved so late at night. When it came down to Larry and M2K matches it was 1 a.m. by that point ( I stuck around for 3 additional hours to watch and support, but he was already pre-johning by then due to the major delay in matches. Decently legit John, just a bummer, we coulda had a Ness take 1st at a national.)
I can't say for sure if FOW is better than Shaky but because of this tournament alone his name needs to get back up there as possibly the best Ness. Prior to this tourney I wasn't so sure about him as a ness rep, just because he used high tier secondaries for so many matches in the past. However he beat tyrant's meta, havok's Marth, and Rich Brown's Olimar 2-0, 2-0, and 3-0 with all Ness to earn 3rd at a major regional (I think it may have been a national even, due to lee martin and m2k and random out of staters). Shaky has some amazing accomplishments as well but FOW has improved a lot and i'm leaning toward him at the moment. Not that it matters who the best Ness is really, cause what's important is that Ness gets good results and is thus further pushed up the tier list- that's why I still attend tourneys and continually try to stay up there on par with the skill other high level Nesses have. Plus he is so darn fun to wreck with.

Ness doubters eat your heart out. Top 3 at a regional/national and imo not a single gimmicky thing happened in those matches (i.e. dair spikes, pk missile kills, yoyo spikes, etc.) Ness can beat high level players of high tiers characters all by himself, and there is plenty of evidence to support this (I'm referring to Ness results across the country.)

Praxis be jealous of Ness btw : )

My guess is that the only match that may appear on youtube may be his set vs Rich Brown (since it was on the livestream). His matches vs m2k and larry may appear but those aren't worth watching so much, he was playing em like friendlies for the most part. It was kinda funny, but Rich and FOW were playing and talking to me to try and get the scoop on the other's character and what to do/not do and what to look for. Gave em both helpful tips but whether or not either one actually used my advice I'm not so sure. It's one thing to just hear advice- it's a completely different thing to put it into practice in a tournament setting immediately after hearing it haha. Also GIMR it took me the longest time to realize that your name stood for god-is-my-rock. I had heard your extended (or normal and GIMR is shortened) name due to videos showing AT's you put outand I have seen your Ness videos (very nice ness btw, may be the quickest i've seen) but it took me the longest time to realize that GIMR and god-is-my-rock is the same person haha. I are dumb.

Peach has a Stupid-looking everything. xD

VICE!!!! Gimme some ideas of how his ness played! I wanna know, and right now won't give much info, seeing as the matches aren't up yet.

How was his bair spacing?
Fair usage overall?
Did he use PSImag?
What, approximately, was his spread of move usage? Like percent-wise.

FFFFFFUUUUUUU Stop tempting me awesome Ness results ><.

Every single time I get away from playing this character something like this happens XD. Not to say that playing Ness is a bad thing, but I'm really not good enough to pull it off and I'm actually having fun with Pika and Falco after dancing around the entire character select screen trying to find viable characters that I enjoy.

Good **** to FOW, but also good **** to Vice. Too many people ignoring that another Ness made it to 33rd at such a big tourney.

Haha Praxis I think I caught wind of that event on facebook. I left immediately after loser's finals so nah, I didn't get to see those matches hehe. I bet it was pretty fun, you trollin us Ness's. Some day all the good Ness's will fly up to WA and get the top 5 spots at a tourney, just as vengeance for all the crap you guys have given ness for like the past 9 years. Ness's head is pretty silly, but metaknight IS a head, just like that one guy said. Always fun seein ya.

@ eagle
mmmmm, my memory isn't perfect of the matches but I know he used fair a healthy amount (a lot), he used down air a whole bunch for spacing and using the no lag at the end to do various things such as dash grab, dash attack, running away...basically anything after a dair. He would use yoyo's to punish spot dodges and down smash for the occasional hit behind him. He used a lot of grounded pk fires but hardly any zap jumped pk fires which I found interesting. bair spacing was uhhhh, normal? I don't know that's kind of a funny question. Very little psi mag usage, not even to b pivot. He mainly just played very smartly/safely and had great execution, spacing, and mixups. Very little gimmicks. Lots of hopping around with downair, pressuring w/ forward air, and great grab/ground pk fire game. I don't remember any down tilts. Most of his kills were grabs and bairs. No up angled forward tilts sadly : (.

Thanks Avarice! I was actually pretty sad at my placing, I should have beaten Raz even though he is a good peach and we've played tons of times. I wasn't in the zone on sunday. I did great in my pools on Saturday, only losing matches to SK92 but the following day I was weirdly stressed out for some reason, not even having a little bit of fun during bracket matches. I enjoyed supporting fow though and strategizing matchups a bit there. Just more motivation for me to not give up trying to improve.

vicegrips ness is almost as good as FOWs tho dont get it twisted. FOW seems to be a little more precise and his reads are godlike but vicegrip is a top ness as well =]

Thanks for that, Vice. Tons of info I like to hear.

Fair is the only move I just can't get back into. I've found VERY little great usage to it. It only has the WOW factor of it's past, as everyone is afraid of it's spacing. In general, it only does a minor amount of stuff for what it is, but I guess if you can pressure well with it, it makes your opponent fear you much more.

DAIR! I LOVE DAIR SO MUCH!! I'm glad to hear I'm getting THAT part right. The AC stuff is just insane with it. You can literally bait/do anything with that, especially just for transitioning everything into the next thing.

Grounded PKfire makes more sense actually. I prefer FH, but the problem is that if you mess up, there is a significantly greater chance of failure against most higher tier characters. If anything, I'd say Grounded PKfire is good enough to just super-accurately spam.... against a minor amount of characters. Snake can punish it well for sure. Falco is a maybe. I'm not sure... Need to re-integrate a more grounded approach to PKfire now.

Bair... I wasn't clear on what I wanted to ask. Like HOW does he use bair? Does he use it while landing? Does he use it just jumping up and hitting people? Does he chain into it well? Does he poke the shield? etc. I've begun to analyze Bair for ness, and it is by far the best move with least risk and most reward. It's like Kirby's bair, except seemingly more range, a little slower, and better used for killing/damaging than most other moves. If you know exactly where to place it and how to time it so that it either opens up the instant you land OR you move away gradually while rising, it is almost unstoppable. The shield-push is great, and the landing lag is so little in relation to the shield lag of the opponent. (rant-ish)

Grab game is something I've been working on.

:( No dtilt or PSImag.... I get punished a lot for PSImag though. I only really use it around a ledge, because anywhere else the opponent sees quickly enough to punish. The BReverse type where you bounce back still is useful, but it's been much easier to just predict perfectly where the opponent will go and adjust so that there is no possible way they can hit me, even if they try to edgeguard/ledgehog. DJ'ing from offstage to land directly on the stage is SO fun... IT's like DJ > AD onto ground > turn around and dtilt/ftilt the person who failed at edgeguarding me... or just utilt.

Also, Vice, :( It sucks when you have bad days. Trust me, I've had many with school AND brawl.

I'm happy you said hi to me Yink! I woulda just stopped commentating and just chatted w/ you over livestream had I known lol. We couldn't see the chatroom and FOW'S matches vs Larry and m2k weren't even worth commentating on for as long as I did due to his lack of caring haha.

Yea dair, fair, grab, and fire seem to be most important to FOW's playstyle. Nair OOS of course but that is a given for every Ness. Also just cause FOW didn't use various thing like dtilt trip>bat, usmash oos, hanging yoyo off the ledge, and using psi magnet does not mean that those shouldn't be used. I'm a big fan of such things and imo almost every trick/move Ness possesses should be utilized for one purpose or another. For example FOW did not use thunder to do a surprise attack from the ledge, but he is fully aware of that move and probably uses it sometimes, just didn't happen in those matches. When I was fighting Burntsocks I liked to use that vs him sometimes just cause he does the same thing vs me w/ those darn eggs on the ledge haha. As for back air I don't remember him hitting shield with it but he always found ways to hit with it in the air/trade hits with sweetspot/kill. lol bad days at school, but ty eagle.

Thanks Burnty! It was great seeing/playing you and I really appreciate what you said on this thread : )
