Dude. You do realize that we were shown several moves of which pretty much all have the same function as the moves Ness had and that we do not know what the other moves are?

Actually, Lucas imitates 4 of Ness' moves. PK Freeze seems practically identical to PK Flash.
And for the record, the up-tilt looks like it'll have the same effect as Ness': disjointed hitbox, hit opponent upwards.
No real conclusion can be drawn from the down-smash, but it looks to me like Lucas turns around while using it and thus uses it in both directions. Like the yo-yo.
The bair looks the same except with something added.
The snake gives him an extended grab that Ness desperately needed.
PK Fire seems the same with minor differences.
PK Freeze = PK Flash
PK Thunder.
PSI Magnet with slightly different usage.

They are the same except Lucas is better in every respect. Go team.

And the great legacy of the original 12... it would maybe be disrespectful if one of those characters was completely eradicated. But this is frikkin Ness with personality and blond hair. -_-

dang, lucas not only has a bunch of ness's moves, but his are all better versions.
just look at PK fire, its no longer just a tiny flame, its a pillar of doom!
his pk thunder sends him a longer distance.
pk(sheild?) is put infront of him and gives him a good distance for safety.
pk freeze is more effective than pk flash (IMO).

ness is definatly gone.

I will be honest. I never liked Ness. I do not like the way he looks, the way he moves, or the way he resembles Jimmy Neutron, but that's just me. I would have been OK with him being in Brawl as long as I did not have to use him much for unlocking stuff.

Anyway, today's DOJO update reads: "There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar. They are from the same family of PK users." I have seen some speculation in the forums about Ness still having a chance, but the evidence is quite clear. Why would Sakurai describe Ness in this manner unless he were talking about SSB4 for some odd reason? If he were describing SSB4, then yeah, Ness would still have a chance for Brawl, but it is beyond me as to why Sakurai would include a character in Brawl and then pre-announce his absence for a game that has not even begun development. On top of all that, Lucas is essentially Ness with a different name.

Ness will not be in Brawl as a playable character. Sorry, folks.

The thing is, you should... start learning to like Lucas.
Faith is nice and all, but do realize that
a) you're just betraying yourself if you don't open up to changes.
b) we are talking about a game here and you are quite possibly taking it too seriously. You are probably not married to Ness in reality, so your loyalty to him is romantic, but he's not going to appreciate it. Since he's, well, not real.

Lucas is like a reincarnation thing of ness basically in the game...coming from hundreds of years in the future and has his same moves and stuff...

He said up until now does not include Brawl. It is exclusive, not inclusive. It is meant to imply things after it if nothing is said, for example:

Let's pretend he confirms a character. He could say "up until now, there were 23 characters confirmed.

That is clearly no longer the case, as there would be 24 characters confirmed.


There is more evidence as well, such as Sakurai himself not liking the idea of clones/same or similar movesets, and the fact he said that Ness and Lucas play alike.

Basically, Lucas is just Ness with a new name and a new face as far as Smash goes. I don't see why people have such a hard time understanding that.

that usually means that whatever teh subject is it had appeared in every event/game/whizzimahoozits but wont be appearing in the latest event/game/whizzimahoozits

I held out as long as I could. I was not going to let up that he was out until I was absolutely certain. But, this is pretty clear. The creator of the game, or at the very least someone who knows all of the characters in the game, has said that Ness is someone who used to be in the game.

And fyi, I created this thread for all of the fanboys who kept creating threads asking if Ness was coming back and then were nowhere after the Franklin Badge.

In any case, I guess it was all for not anyway.

Also, no one really cared about Lucas either. Lots of people had him predicted as being in, but over a year after all of this, there was still no Lucas thread, hence why I had to make that one, too. And, even after he was confirmed, there wasn't a ton of excitement. That's why I had the Lucas thread title as "He's in Brawl...looks like everybody's apathy paid off" for a long time.

Anyway, I'm sure Lucas will have an outfit with moptop black hair and make everybody happy...

Comparing Mario and Luigi with Ness and Lucas is rubbosh. Err, rubbish. I could just edit that, but rubbosh sounds funny.
Anyway, Mario and Luigi are... the Mario Brothers. They're a trademark or something. They are a team, they belong to each other, they're like brother and sister except without sister, muchachos, companions, etc.

Ness is the hero from one Mother game and Lucas is the hero from another Mother game.
They are different people with no direct relationship except for their role within their respective stories.

Luigi's Smash spot is justified because he's like a part of Mario, and his similar moves are justified by that fact as well, and the fact that he is so similar and yet so different is exactly what makes him unique. No other character has a justification for such a similar moveset to another character's.

Ok, I'm a huge Ness fan and today's update is definitely a blow. However, I still am not willing to say with certainty that Ness will not be in the game. The phrase until now does not NECESSARILY imply a change. For instance, I could say "Until now, I've been a huge Ness fan, but now I think he sucks" or I could say "Until now, I've been a huge Ness fan, and now I like him even more than ever".

Now, don't get me wrong I'm not saying Ness is in, simply that I think it's premature to say he has absolutely no chance. I really do wish Sakurai would make it definite one way or the other though.
