Finally someone realizes Ness deserves Middle Tier.

I laughed so hard at Fox, Ike, Yoshi, Sonic, Lucas, Samus, Bowser, and Ness beating Mario. Good joke man, good joke.

Luigi would be a mid tier character if he didn't have such nightmare matchups against the top tier characters.
re ***** rob and is fairly good against DK...ut so is mario...

ness isn't mid tier, and Oli needs to be WAY higher he does well gainst ALL the top tier chars...

My most vehement disagreement is with Kirby in mid tier. Other than that, I'd only make small changes like boosting Toon Link up a bit.

I'd have Peach above ZSS, but yeah, good job over all.

mr. esc is a big noob

weaksauce. pt should be bottom of bottom. he's horrible. every character in the game can run away from them because the pokemon totally lack speed or range or all of the above. fatigue means the pokemon can't do anything. they suddenly become worthless. one time squirtle got fatigued and he just sat in his shell and fell asleep. that's how bad fatigue is.

Steeler, that post was delicious <3

And Vip, most people could agree that Ness > Lucas, I'd say probably 90% of Smashboards.

In fact, the only ones who argue the other way round are Lucas users of some description.

I like this list more than the official one over all.

I would just rate Toon Link higher. I love him and think hes got tons of potential. I rarely here anything bad about him either.

Good Work

GaW should go down a bit, Olimar should go up a lot, jigglypuff should go up a bit, falcon down to bottom (I wish it weren't so, but that's the sad truth), ness down a bit, and idk what's going on with low tier, but I doubt mario should be that low.

I don't know, I guess I'm biased as a mario main, but ness's recovery is SO EASILY GIMPED, in contrast to lucas's which is one of the best in the game. Thats really what puts lucas ahead IMO...

Well yeah, that's a given, but Ness is better than Lucas in the air, and considering how Brawl is a very aerially based game, that's important.

And we're not considering Lucas' main problem, in that he doesn't actually have ANY option for approach, not a single one.

although you did pop a boner from my previous post, i'm going to have to call you out on that one :bee:

lucas's nair is good. pretty **** good. continuous hitbox, good shield pressure, quick startup, lucas can di as he does it, and autocancels for a jab/ftilt/dtilt/14 frame startup and really strong fsmash. it's pretty difficult to shieldgrab and it bothers all characters that don't have an insane OoS option, like Shuttle Loop/Whirling Fortress/Dolphin Slash.

oh and it can be kind of frustrating trying to punish lucas's dair since it comes out 4 separate times, has good range, and can also be autocanceled.

lucas has a pretty nice camp game (much better than ness's) with pk fire/pkt/psi magnet so he doesn't have to approach against a pretty sizable majority of the cast.

you can't really directly compare ness and lucas by anything except recovery...ness relies more on being aggressive with very good aerial approaches that most can't really shieldgrab and lucas plays more defensively with good camp game and does have some good shield pressure. not as good as ness's though.

overall, i'd say lucas has better matchups than ness.

apparently I'm not alone roooooooooy!, pknintendo rated them both equally and can't fair not be sheildgrabbed by most characters if you DI back?

Ness shouldn't be mid tier. Lucas should be low mid tier if that. They are destroyed by Marth. If a good Marth grabs them, they are guarunteed a good 60-70% damage. If not more.

ROB is top tier, lol.

Good placement of Diddy Kong, bravo.

Why is Mario so low?

Ness is considerably better than Lucas, and low mid tier worthy. Further, using EIDI it's possible to escape the Marth CG.

One good aerial =/= a good aerial game.

Compare it to Ness' aerial game. I know you said they're not comparable at the end of your post, but you kinda have to compare them, like you'd have to compare any character's element of a game to any others. Ness' good aerials are basically all of them aside his dair, and even that has a few uses, despite it's poor range.

oh and it can be kind of frustrating trying to punish lucas's dair since it comes out 4 separate times, has good range, and can also be autocanceled.
It's not very practical though. Yeah, it has a lot of range beneath him, but considering the hitbox is staying out so long he's vunerable from his sides for a fairly long time. It's only really useful for hitting opponents that are directly below.

lucas has a pretty nice camp game (much better than ness's) with pk fire/pkt/psi magnet so he doesn't have to approach against a pretty sizable majority of the cast.
Granted, Lucas has a better camping game than Ness. His PK Fire is very easy to deal with though for a large majority of the cast can deal with slow moving projectiles like that with things like reflectors/absorbers (Mario, Fox, Wolf, Falco, Ness, Lucas, Pit, and others) and characters with the ability to close the gap quickly. PK Fire is bad anyway, PK Thunder poses way more of a threat, and even that's very punishable if you can get around it. Depending on projectiles, particularly elemental ones, is not good.

you can't really directly compare ness and lucas by anything except recovery...ness relies more on being aggressive with very good aerial approaches that most can't really shieldgrab and lucas plays more defensively with good camp game and does have some good shield pressure. not as good as ness's though.
True :) I will say though that Ness' aggressive game > Lucas' defensive game. Very few characters can effectively deal with an approaching Ness, whilst Lucas' camp game for many is quite exploitable.

overall, i'd say lucas has better matchups than ness.
Really? I'm not sure on Lucas' match-ups, though I do play a fair bit of Ness and can comfortably say that a lot of his match-ups are even, which is never a bad thing. I'll look at Lucas' now, if they have a match-up chart or whatever.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been too ill to do much recently D;

High
Marth
Diddy
Lucario
Wario
ROB
Donkey Kong
Ice Climbers
Pikachu

I would definitely move Diddy up to at least top of High, or maybe even somewhere in Top. That new single banana lock thing looks pretty ridiculous, but even without that his recent tournament placings alone should be enough.

Mid
Kirby
Wolf
Olimar
Zero Suit Samus
Peach
Pit
Toon Link
Ness
Bowser
Zelda
Sheik

I think Wolf should be lower, Peach should be higher. I almost want to say that Wolf and Peach should switch spots, but I'm not sure.

Also, I LAUGHED AT KIRBY, WOLF, OLIMAR, ZSS, PEACH, TOON LINK, AND NESS BEATING BOWSER. AS A BOWSER MAIN SINCE MELEE, MY COMPLETELY UNBIASED OPINION IS THAT BOWSER SHOULD EASILY BE TOP OF MID.

Low
Luigi
Fox
Ike
Yoshi
Sonic
Lucas
Samus
Mario

I don't think you are giving Ike enough respect at all. When I look at this tier, Ike just sticks out like a sore thumb, or a guy dressed as a vampire at a toga party, or uh, a red thing in a pile of blue things. Ike is just a much better character than every other character you have in Low. I think he should at least be at the top of Low, if not somewhere around the bottom of Mid.

Bottom
Pokémon Trainer
Link
Captain Falcon
Jigglypuff
Ganondorf

Does anyone even use these characters ?_? If I had my way I would put CF below Jigglypuff and Ganon but honestly who cares about Bottom tier :x

Ness has a 60-40 Matchup against Lucas if I recall correctly. And like Roy! said, Ness' aggressive game > Lucas' defensive game + very few characters can effectively deal with an approaching Ness, whilst Lucas' camp game for many is quite exploitable.

I believe Ness deserves to be higher than Lucas on the tier list.

Okay, this part of the tier list looks good IMO, although I think ROB should be up here, right under or above Falco, I'm not sure. But yeah, other then that, perfect IMO.

High
Marth
Diddy
Lucario
Wario
ROB
Donkey Kong
Ice Climbers
Pikachu

I think this looks good, but, again, ROB into top tier. And Kirby should be brought into this section of this list.

Mid
Kirby
Wolf
Olimar
Zero Suit Samus
Peach
Pit
Toon Link
Ness
Bowser
Zelda
Sheik

Kirby up into High Tier,I say right above Pikachu. Everything else looks good here except I personally think Zelda = Too low, and Ness = Too High. I think that the two should switch placements.

Low
Luigi
Fox
Ike
Yoshi
Sonic
Lucas
Samus
Mario

Lucas should go a bit higher(Maybe Middle Tier?), same with Luigi (Middle Tier. No question mark here.) and Mario.

Bottom
Pokémon Trainer
Link
Captain Falcon
Jigglypuff
Ganondorf

Pokemon Trainer and Jigglypuff switch spots, Captain Falcon and Ganon switch spots, Jigglypuff moved from Pokemon Trainer's spot to somewhere in Low Tier.

No it's not, he can still running regrab, although it's not an infinite anymore. EIDI puts you just in range for a tipped Fsmash.

looool at jigglypoof putting pt as second worst...and putting jigglypuff in low tier.

bottom tier will be captain falcon, ganondorf, jigglypuff, and samus/link borderin low and bottom. no particular order.

@rooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooy

actually i think ness has a pretty good dair, it punishes spotdodges and the likely very well. and all characters should be deathly afraid of being underneath ness at any time. pretty slow to activate though, but useful if ness can predict what you do.

anyway, it seems to me like ness is better on stage but has noticeably less survivability than lucas, just because of their recoveries. ness and lucas DEFINITELY shouldn't be like 8 spots apart though, although i'll concede that ness is probably more effective than lucas...if he doesn't get gimped.
