Haha maybe. I haven't really thought about a crew since Aaron Wu left and Zander stopped holding tournies...I'll introduce you and Junk to everybody I know in due time...

alright, this message is mainly directed at my UCSB superiors (gosu and junk):

today I was walking around the U-cen and right before I exited I noticed a door open which led to a large conference sort of room. I thought to myself, "wow, that looks perfectly suited for a large-scale tournament. I bet 100 people could fit there relatively easily." I walked around to the other side where the official entrance was and saw the name "Corwin Pavilion" right above the entrance. So I came to the conclusion that this place was called that. There seemed to be many chairs and a projector screen with a podium. My question is: what is the viability of the Corwin Pavilion as a venue for SB Monthlies? Feel free to ridicule me if the idea is laughable (I'm a freshman).

Nice idea and I talked to Junk about the Ucen, he seemed set on Santa Catalina common rooms.

But when you talk about Corwin Pavillion... No way. Venue fee would be through the roof. That placed is usually reserved for corporate seminars and large scale university meetings...

to put it realistically in order to rent out that place for a tourny lasting say a good 3 hours (also we would need to go book it 3 weeks in advance) and for a 100 man tourney with a $5 buy-in, we still wouldn't have enough to pay off the venue fee

me and a friend tried to plan a LAN party (wiki it if you don;t know what it is) for about 100 people and when we looked at the price tag, we were blown away. (granted we had financial backing from AS but even then it still seemed like alot)

btw junk...if you don't settle on a place soon I think I'll just reserve a small room in the ucen without you... I need smash in my bloodstream like now

don't worry about it...technically students can if they have the cash and patience...

But yeah me and Junk are working on it...he wants the perfect venue and I have to help him do the paper work

Samuelson glad that you're coming up...(and just me nitpicking we go by quarters at UCSB not sememsters, unless you're going to SBCC)

at this point all we need is the venue. Junk has alot of **** to do and I'm trying to help as much as I can but it's going very slowly

Hopefully we can get a venue by next month, cuz no one will really be here for december

cool cool...

but yeah I cater to the melee people now cuz of Dante, that and it's what I "grew up with"; basically the only smash I played in college since no one had a 64 and I was too lazy to bring mine

Soo... I have no idea if you guys have gotten any further with the whole venue deal, but i just walked out of the language lab in kerr hall after a class, and they have a decent sized room, with a bunch of tv's sitting around and chairs and tables, i don't know if you've taken a look at it, but potentially?

Well we've looked everywhere...even off campus...the problem with on campus is we have to be a registered UCSB organization to get permission to use those facilities and get reduced rates

hopefully by the end of the week we will have our org registered and official

which brings up our org: Would anyone who attends UCSB or close to the area wish to be a member or participate in the video game club? we'll do more than just smash. I'm the president since I did all the paperwork, wrote the constitution, paid the registration fees, attended the orientation meetings, and planned out the agendas...oh and Junk is vice prez...cuz he signed the form
