alright, this message is mainly directed at my UCSB superiors (gosu and junk):
today I was walking around the U-cen and right before I exited I noticed a door open which led to a large conference sort of room. I thought to myself, "wow, that looks perfectly suited for a large-scale tournament. I bet 100 people could fit there relatively easily." I walked around to the other side where the official entrance was and saw the name "Corwin Pavilion" right above the entrance. So I came to the conclusion that this place was called that. There seemed to be many chairs and a projector screen with a podium. My question is: what is the viability of the Corwin Pavilion as a venue for SB Monthlies? Feel free to ridicule me if the idea is laughable (I'm a freshman).
Nice idea and I talked to Junk about the Ucen, he seemed set on Santa Catalina common rooms.
But when you talk about Corwin Pavillion... No way. Venue fee would be through the roof. That placed is usually reserved for corporate seminars and large scale university meetings...
to put it realistically in order to rent out that place for a tourny lasting say a good 3 hours (also we would need to go book it 3 weeks in advance) and for a 100 man tourney with a $5 buy-in, we still wouldn't have enough to pay off the venue fee
me and a friend tried to plan a LAN party (wiki it if you don;t know what it is) for about 100 people and when we looked at the price tag, we were blown away. (granted we had financial backing from AS but even then it still seemed like alot)
btw junk...if you don't settle on a place soon I think I'll just reserve a small room in the ucen without you... I need smash in my bloodstream like now
