He didn't charge a door fee either and bribed the guard from his own pocket to let us stay longer at SPOC 3.
And that was what relevance to me paying out top 5 like he does...?

Oh, right, none at all.

I for one also find my tournaments to be better due to better TVs, a nicer venue in general, and it not being located in a city that's annoying and expensive to get to and you have to park far away more often than not, but that's a different issue. You also don't have to walk anywhere to get food due to Wendy's being right there.

The door fee has nothing to do with the pot, and it's entirely his loss if he doesn't charge one in order to not lose money for hosting a tournament. I don't think that's noble of him. I think it's insane. My dad just tonight told me to make sure I make at least a little money for hosting the tournament and to make sure Brandon and the crew doesn't lose a dime off of hosting it.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. I hope this is supposed to be a joke. Nicer venues usually have more TVs and more space, which is what SPOC has. I don't mind walking 2 min to get food instead of 1. Philly isn't expensive to get to and I really don't mind walking 5 minutes to get to the venue because walking = top tier.

He only lost money bribing the guard at SPOC 3 and tbh I personally wouldn't have held it against him if he took money from the pot to do that. But for the rest of the tournaments he ran, he didn't have to do that and therefore didn't have to spend money. It's not a matter of losing money to host the tournament because it's not like you're having to spend money on the venue.

well since the BEST player in montage is gay i figured i could add to the humor of it all
You're gay Trevor? I did not know that

It's not. When has space been an issue ever for my venue? It never has been and we've always had a sufficient amount of TVs, and they were almost all huge and awesome. Philly's more expensive to get to than somewhere on Route 1 because tolls are often involved and usually more gas is used due to constant stopping and going from traffic and lights. Why do you think Magus has never had issues coming here or going to Cheezit's venue but has never once gone into Philly or NYC? Duh.

Brandon and his crew loses money on gas to get here since I'm 40 minutes away from them, but that's besides the point; the house fee is perfectly fair and it's staying. Unless...you want to come Friday night, move tables and chairs around, run around all ends of the hotel carrying huge TVs, go down to the shop to get cords and power strips, and then return everything to where you found it for us? Then you can decide to not charge for that.

Wow Spam thx for holding it down. Always happy to hear good things about SPOC, and yeah Trevor if you spent a bit more time on your knees maybe you'd learn something.

For the record, I've nothing bad to say about SPOC and I've enjoyed your tournaments.

All's I'm saying is that you are insane for not getting any profit out of all that work and for paying off a guard with your own money in order to allow the tournament to run later. Kashif thinks it's noble, and I think it's insane. That's all. XD

when ever i think of edd i think of this

scar does what he does for the love of the game

obviously, you aren't the same way

there's nothing wrong (well, not TOO much wrong) with trying to turn a profit, but don't expect people to respect or like you for it

well I should say a few things about profiting from tournaments.

In my opinion I think that what Scar does is something great and its something that a majority of people do. I mean in all honesty we do not need the money. I have been paid by companies to run tournaments and I have done them just because its fun. Really in the end its great to have a few bucks in your pocket but its, to be honest, insignificant unless you did what I did and worked for Samsung, MLG, etc where you get a payroll.

To be honest the door fee is $2 is not that bad considering Evo and other tournaments I have seen have charged a lot more. 2 bucks to me is not that serious especially if it is a hotel thats pretty sweet deal to be honest.

In all honesty turning a profit at a monthly tournament is not a real good idea. I'd understand using that money for a future tournament and for getting things together in the long run but really its not much.

Also to people getting upset over it. To be honest it is not as uncommon as you think. Some people do use the door fees ( after paying for everything else ) use the rest to cover their personal costs. Its not bad but I understand why it is looked down upon.

All in all I support all smash events as long as people have a good time.

thats my peace really.

Sorry, but I'm not working for like four hours on an event and then hosting it all day and getting nothing out of it but "fun" when this game is my main source of income at the moment. We're barely making anything. Any "profit" that Brandon makes gets dumped right into his gas tank, for instance. When Brandon won money from 2nd in teams and 2nd in singles at the first event, he actually didn't take from the house fee amount so that the rest of the crew would make more than 10 bucks each. Wow, 10 dollars for 4 hours of work! lol, some serious payment there.

And I already told you that my dad won't even let me use the venue unless I make a profit, so lol. Either pay the door fee so the crew can make some chump change and get paid for their hard work or the tournament won't even exist.

Oh wow, I haven't heard gay jokes since highschool and I don't like hearing them anymore.

Personally, before I entered the tourney scene I thought all tournament directors made some sort of profit. Don't mean to bring my own crew up but I swear we took mad money out of the pot for our tourneys and biweeklies although I know Woz treats us like Kings and has to pay for the venue plus he drives all over NJ giving rides for all our tournies and he's the Boss of all bosses so I don't think he really makes any profit and possibly loses money but I know for a fact he truly has love for the game "Melee at least".

We're not pull a profit for this. Last time, it barely covered our gas, and setup expenses. I had to go out mad early and find a hardware store for more extension cords. Someone lost ****ing AVs so I bought them a new set.

If scar wants to pay from his own pocket, then fine, and dandy. I have bills to pay, and ****. I don't have extra cash laying around to run this. I already pump a lot of time in advertising, and setting up.

Also Lylat should be a counterpick...Just because that would only leave us with four neutral stages doesn't mean we should keep it as a neutral stage. It's not neutral at all. It screws over people with bad recovery, and the platforms above the stage are pretty much useless. The tilting of the ship is gay and getting caught under the wings = death unless you're pit, rob, metaknight.

That's true (the battlefield part) but battlefield never tilted from side to side, denying some char's with marginal recovery access to the stage. A loss of a stock based on that is somewhat gay imo. And a loss of a stock in brawl pretty much means you lose, because camping is so easy.

Happy 1000th post?

Lylat is fine, you can ban the stage if you don't like it. The platforms are amazing because they make it harder to camp the stage.

is there an age limit? I'm only 13 so I'm not sure if there is an age limit. and one of my crew mates is only 11. it's ok if there is one. I'm also new to tourneys so any other things that I should look out for would be appreciated!

The last time we faced, I killed myself at 0, then sd'd again at 35 and still got you to 1 stock at 81%. Then I two stocked you. Then you picked corneria, and did some bull**** GW crap to have to win.

The time before that, it went to the last hit on all three games.

The time before that, I beat you, 2-0 and one of them was a two stock. You hit a 9 on that match too.

I've never said anything negative about you, so don't come bearing arms at me. I don't MM this time around, because I don't have any money. lulz

Don't give me that practice ****, because I ONLY play at tournament. My wii doesn't even have a wiimote, so I can't even play.

No. Johns.
you never beat me 2-0 step up your memory

Exactly. And having melee's battlefield the subject of your 1000th is just awful. Whoever made you post that owes you some soda.

Absolutely not. Bring any age, but be warned, there's adult language constantly.

No arms, man. I'm just saying. The fact is, you play twice as much. I don't even play friendlies. In fact, at rutgers, I played tournament, and poker all night.

I'm gonna start learning the game. Don't be surprised if you lose to Montage 2ce. :D

i mean i play twice as much is a horrible statement cause i dont play the game at all unless at a tourney or by request i have like a couple hours play time on my own brawl and thats mainly from bringing it to two tourneys dont be surprised if i beat everyone in montage though i am looking forward to the 5th set.

but can you honestly say it was in a situation where you couldn't have recovered well at all? (instead of you just making a mistake?)

and if someone hit you under the stage, then props to them, that's DEFINITELY no reason to downgrade a stage's playability

thirdly, if you guys went with the strikeout instead of random, there wouldn't be this problem :)

stage strike rule eliminates it from being banned but its way worse that battlefeild who cares about getting stuck underneath theres more of a problem with it tilting that hurts alot of chars all the other player has to do is force you to recoverer in a particular way ie make you go low cause he put him self in a position to where if u dont go low he'll kill you not u go to sweat spot of not cause u click to the ledge whats this the stage tilted and now your on the stage under the stage or you just plan miss i dont have as much a problem with this as certain chars do but its worse then battlefield.

Edit: lets have fun and insert your own punctuation.
