i'm getting back into the scene again, but only for mk-legal events. i played an mk-banned tourney a few months back but i honestly didn't find it very fun. none of the characters i tried in the absence of mk (wolf and marth) were fun to me after a few matches, and while snake is my second-fav character to play, he's just not viable by himself in tourneys, and since i don't find anyone else fun AND that mk is starting to become partially legalized, i'd rather just continue to put in work on mk.

in any case, i played a tournament yesterday and beat seibrik in mk dittos 2-1 i got 5th losing to nick riddle and mvd. vids were recorded (i felt kinda full ****** playing NR cause i have like 0 knowledge on the zss matchup rofl but i'm not gonna discredit his win considering he's clearly better than me right now. i feel i'm better as a player than ever before particularly because of a shift of perspective: i am no longer playing games competitively to win. i play to test and exercise my skill. i also play along with my nervousness (if i feel it) instead of treating it as something bad. yeah being nervous can throw off your game but i'd rather just accept it and go along with it rather than try fighting against it. it'll mitigate as i get better.

with that said, i REALLY need to work on my mechanical play. what i mean is i need to be more consistent with my control inputs. sometimes i'll try to do a reverse upB and i wind up dodging backwards instead, or i just react too damn slow to something really obvious (this can easily happen even when i'm not choking).

I'm kinda the same way, MK, Marth, and Snake are the only characters I can play for long periods of time, and my Snake is super hit or miss and my Marth only knows how to fight top tiers and gets wrecked by some mid tiers.... Eh, people complain about too many MK dittos but I'd rather play the MK ditto than most of the other garbage in this game. So I've basically been out of the game for a year and have just started taking it seriously again in the past few weeks

i think the weird thing about this game is that it's fun to play but can be very boring to watch except for hyped matches (as opposed to games like mvc3 and blazblue where it's both fun to play AND even casual matches are fun to watch).

out of the blue, but this sentence makes me want to strangle you. because if snake isn't viable by himself... then there's like 3 characters who are. you must be so used to having 6-4 advantages all the time... makes me glad MK is still banned in my region really, so everyone has to learn to win bad matchups >_>

i don't mind playing characters with bad matchups if they're no worse than 4/6. like i said if i had fun w/ other characters besides snake and mk then i would've had a secondary but as it stands i don't find anyone else fun to play.

snake doesn't have anything worse than a 4-6 though so you should be set. regardless he's still snake so you'll completely destroy anyone you can outsmart.

I mean even with lucario I don't usually have to deal with things worse than 4-6 now that MK is banned, however I pretty much get a bad matchup every game loool.

Snake is "viable" but not ideal, I just play him because he's fun, IC's or Olimar if you're really competitive, I'd probably second IC's but I'm really bad at their CG's

Yeah, I thought it was obvious years ago but people finally got the memo that Olimar and IC's are really really good, even more respect for them now too with the stage list being more reasonable

Newer stagelists are not "more reasonable", on the contrary, they are dumber and boring (as there are much less variables in the game now), but keeps more people happy than the most liberal ones, and that's what matters for them.

meh there was this part where snake really screwed-up bad, he had landed a grab and then did a Dthrow on the right side of the stage, next to the breakable part, and then he wanted to read a roll to the left, and that was like the worst idea. If Wario wanted to roll that way, he would've stay in the exact same spot... bad bad :/

Random question... I'm the only one here who doesn't like blue/dark costume as much like every MK around there? I prefer original or red <3 (I always select red costume in all the characters, except Diddy)
