I'm having fears that Palutena will become part of a new Disappointment trifecta. The ones in Brawl were Ridley, Bowser Jr. and Krystal. This time I fear it may be Ridley (again), Palutena and an unknown third.
The difference is Palutena has a lot more going for her. Krystal's popularity was overstated thanks to a vocal fanbase. Ridley was a popular choice, but there were many other characters vying for spots in Brawl. Bowser Jr has nothing.

True, that and Palutena's been around for a lot longer than Krystal has.

Palutena's popularity didn't kick in until around Kid Icarus: Uprising, which makes sense considering that was the game that fleshed her out. To an extent the anime shorts also contribute too.

Pre-Brawl Palutena was discussed a lot less.

Pre-Brawl Palutena got less votes as well, but she still got some votes

Not only this but unlike these three, Palutena has a lot of Japanese popularity on her side which is a big plus over the other three who have little support in Japan.

I wonder, if Palutena isn't confirmed this year as a playable character, what are the odds of her seeing her revealed at E3 next year?

Ah, the Brawl hypes days.

I was a huge supporter back then, and I am still backing her now. Even today I still enjoy the original Kid Icarus (a rarity, I know). I was pleased to see her at least make some sort of appearance. Not going to pretend like I enjoy KI:U's gameplay, but I love what they did with her and Pit, and would love to see her join in the fun.

Consider me a supporter. Mainly because it would solidify Kid Icarus as a bigger Nintendo title and would keep the series revived.

It's nice to see more Palutena supporters coming about. It makes me happier that the Goddess of Light is getting a lot of love. I'm very sure she'll make an appearance in the new Smash, but will she playable is the question that many of us still ask.

It's dumb that Kid Icarus was abandoned for so long, It deserves to be among Nintendo's A-List franchises, and Palutena's presence in SSB4 would help cement that.
Sadly, according to Sakurai it's been abandoned again and the studio (Sora Ltd) closed. *Sigh* even if someone else picks up the series I doubt it will be as good as KI:U, at least not immediatly.

I think Nintendo has just no interest on the series since 1992. I mean if takes Sakurai and only Sakurai just to make a new KI-game (and even then by a chance), then I don't think one should get their hopes up to see any new KI-games for another decade. Or more.

It's quite sad as this series would have so much potential though.

If they made another game for the series deviate to a different genre I would like a game focused on or have Palutena as a selectable character with gameplay like God of War or Bayonetta.

That could actually be interesting to see, no lie. I doubt it'll happen, though.

I'd love this to be some sort of a prequel story.

I think I said something like this before, eh?

So, just to revive this thread a bit, I'll pose a question.

How do you envision Palutena's playstyle?

I wouldn't be surprised if she were to be revealed this December to promote the anniversary of the original NES/Famicom Kid Icarus's release now that Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is out of the way.

As no-one's responding, I guess I'll take a shot.

Obviously, she'll be a long rage defensive character. Palutena has some ability to control the stage, and is decent at keeping foes at bay. She should be rather floaty and have good air mobility, though for some reason I can't see exceling at air combat. Her big weakness would be close combat pressure - her close range options are somewhat poor and lagey, and exist mostly to knock them back into her preferred range. Palutena specializes in stalling and trying to drag matches out, waiting for an opportunity to punish.

How do you envision Palutena's playstyle?

Long-ranged defensive character pretty much fits her well, who'd be around the high-middleweight class at best. It's obvious she'll have a projectile, likely a reflector, and the staff of hers would display that she'd have good-ranged melee attacks. Generally, Palutena's style would seem to be like a longer-ranged and slightly stronger, but slower and less agile "Pit" in which she relies on camping and other defensive tactics to utilize her full potential. Some of her attacks are slow though, but would be stronger compared to the angel.
To make it short, pressure-making long-ranged campy character with a bit of an ability to space (due to her large staff) is what I see Palutena as. What's almost guaranteed if she does make it in is that she will be a defensive character if anything... Though I'd be impressed if I was wrong.

Also, I read that she's very popular in Japan. It makes me happy that she's really appreciated and loved.

I don't know if anyone else knows about this but according to Sakurai's Twitter feed, Kid Icarus: Uprising is getting a digital release on the 3DS eShop in Japan on October 31. Here's the tweet in question: https://twitter.com/Sora_Sakurai/status/385216333354246144.

IMO, this would be a perfect opportunity for Sakurai to reveal Palutena as a playable character (assuming she's actually in the game).

So pretty much get the game via digital download? That may be interesting. If she doesn't appear around December 19 due to the Kid Icarus anniversary, there's always that October time you just mentioned, or March 22 of next year due to Kid Icarus Uprising's 2-year anniversary. So far, we have 3 possible chances. <3 Keep the Palutena support up and going!

Why do ya say that?

March 22 2014 will = Kid Icarus Uprising's 2-year anniversary (and I got the game), so it's always possible if the original Kid Icarus anniversary on December 19 fails us.

If Kid Icarus: Uprising's 2-year anniversary is the date of Palutena's potential reveal, it wil have to be on March 21st or 24th 2014 as the 22nd falls on a Saturday.

Nothing wrong with an early release. <3 I personally prefer the potential December release mainly because it could be my (I actually do mean all the Palutena supporters) early Christmas present.
Meanwhile, it's harder to make a moveset for her than I thought. I wanted to be unique.

Must suck being December babies. November one right here. Also, on topic, do you think Palutena will pick up Pit's Side B and Down B? It would make sense, as she does hold a small Mirror Shield and has a staff. Reg. B can be a light blast and Up B could be her teleporting or flying. Sounds good to me, but y'all might have different opinions.

Hm. I know my plan for Down-B for her is similar, with some different properties. Side-B I don't think I have just yet. I'll keep experimenting though.

Do you guys think she would float like Mewtwo in Melee or walk like every other humanoid? Which would you rather have her do?

That's actually a tough call. Mewtwo and ROB already do that, and Palutena never levitated above land fast, and I don't think she'd go from slow-moving floating animation via walking to a standard running animation. Maybe she'd be more elegant walking rather than floating, but we could find a way so that she could float. Maybe a nerf'd version of Peach's... who knows? But the only way she's levitated is slightly above ground, so that's why thinking of that is tough.

Let her walk. She may be a god, but that doesn't make her too good to walk like normal people.

I had a dream a couple of weeks ago that I saw Palutena on the website. Unfortunately, all I could see was the banner.

I'm sure she's strong enough to be able to carry all that heavy stuff (like the running she does in her anime short). I almost am thinking about her to float as her walk, standard run, but it'd be kinda weird. But then that'd make her unique. Most likely I'd just let her walk regularly; she doesn't have to have everything she had in Uprising, but be greatly influenced by it.
