I usually see Palutena as a medium to long range magic user. (A heavier and longer ranged Zelda, you could say.)

It all comes to gameplay needs.
For example, look back at Ike being added to Brawl. Ike was most certainly never a slow character in Path of Radiance, but they made him slow and strong in Smash Bros to fit a gameplay niche. That was strange at first, but I don't think anyone was upset they made that decision for the sake of offering a new experience. Palutena is even further open to interpretation. There are a few things I couldn't see her doing. For example, while I don't think she necessarily has to be slow, I have a hard time seeing her being super agile and walljumping and stuff. Aside from that it is basically looking at what kind of gameplay Smash bros doesn't have, and fitting Palutena into the picture as needed.
On a personal level, I would want some focus on her shield. Unless I am missing something, no one in Smash Bros really uses the shield as a weapon, and I feel there are a lot of gameplay implications that could be a part of the product. I made a Valkyrie moveset a few days ago with some of my ideas. Of course it all can't be applied to Palutena, but it just shines some light on the possibilities. All the same, I am just fine with something completely different. Even with Samus, Link and Mega Man, there is certainly more room for more projectile-focused fighters.
I'd like her to fight mainly with her staff using magic for long range but whacking her enemies with her staff and her shield being tossed at enemies would be epic. What about her claws? She uses them in the anime.
Her magic are made of light but she can also summon rain and maybe throw in few vegetables for comic relief.
So, you don't want Palutena with an afro?I'd rather we not see too many references to the anime special.

Agreed, I've always imagined her to have a similar fighting and movement style to that of Zelda due to them both being primarily magic casters (although I think Palutena levitating for her running animation suits her better than actually running on foot).Wolf Claws entail speed, and personally I don't want Palutena to be a fast-type character.
I really feel it fits more her style to not move around much and spam light attacks to control space. Then if someone gets close, shield or staff to the face.
Hello there. I've been reading these forums for a while, and decided to sign up and add that I'd support Palutena for Smash 4.
Thank you.Welcome to the boards, small fry!
Generally, Palutena's one of those characters that despite having a larger fan base, the fan base is usually pretty quiet. Not entirely sure why.I laugh a little each time someone mentions Palutena using Centurions as one of her specials, because I imagine it as a similar fashion to the way Dedede tosses his minions and I picture her just carelessly throwing the Centurions around everywhere, including the giant Strongarms. But yes, I like your specials, but I think her FS could be something more unique since there are a couple of giant laser FS's already, but that could just be me. Also, I find it so strange this thread doesn't get a lot of activity, especially when the polls indicate that Palutena is a very wanted newcomer.
I do share your fears about her being overlooked like the 3 you mentioned for Brawl since Sakurai AFAIK has used pre-Brawl popularity data to determine his roster choices and for this reason, I don't expect her to be playable (I'm just keeping my expectations low to avoid disappointment). As for the unknown third one for SSB4, I personally think it's King K. Rool.I'm having fears that Palutena will become part of a new Disappointment trifecta. The ones in Brawl were Ridley, Bowser Jr. and Krystal. This time I fear it may be Ridley (again), Palutena and an unknown third.

Isaac was part of the Disappointment Trifecta in Brawl, wasn't he?
Well, I think it's still a bit early to throw in the towel. It's true that Sakurai probably used pre-Brawl data to determine most of the roster, but I doubt he's going to use said data for all the characters given the Wii Fit Trainer's inclusion. Let's assume for a moment that Sakurai chose to take some time off after Kid Icarus Uprising was released to think of the finalized character roster and came up with it in July or August of last year, like how Brawl's roster was more or less finalized in July of 2005. It would be enough time for the Japanese fans to get in a few requests for Palutena, if Chronobound's research on the matter of the most wanted characters is to be taken into account. That, and if Sakurai takes any suggestions from the top 5 most requested characters over there currently, then Palutena has a decent shot since she's the most wanted of the Nintendo newcomers if you take out Mewtwo and Roy due to being Melee veterans.
What poll are you looking at for those facts?Well she's behind Ridley, King K. Rool, Little Mac, Krystal and Bowser Jr. but when you consider that they still have the residual brawl hype behind them that's damn impressive.
I would be very disappointed, but since she doesn't switch between 2 characters, they would still feel pretty different.A thought occurred to me. If Palutena got into Smash 4 and turned out she was a clone of Zelda like Wolf is to Fox, how would you react?
Palutena needs to wear these before getting out her glam blaster.

MattX20 was refering to this thread on GameFAQs where Chronobound (under the name Snakey) gave us his observations on what characters the Japanese fanbase wants in SSB4 based on what he saw on various websites, blogs and forums:Well she's behind Ridley, King K. Rool, Little Mac, Krystal and Bowser Jr. but when you consider that they still have the residual brawl hype behind them that's damn impressive.
God. Forbid.I'm having fears that Palutena will become part of a new Disappointment trifecta. The ones in Brawl were Ridley, Bowser Jr. and Krystal. This time I fear it may be Ridley (again), Palutena and an unknown third.
