Silverfish can appear randomly out of blocks you destroy according to IGN. NO ONE from Pax has a video with them though, Notch confirmed they were IN 1.8 at Pax during his live feed though.

LOL, Animals in Minecraft are going to be persistent in 1.8. In other words, they don't spawn anymore. They are loaded WITH the terrain.

However, they will also reproduce. Apparently through "Spores"
