I agree with this 100%. I think we will be able to import our Villagers fromAnimal Crossing: New Leaf and an Animal Crossing Wii U game, and our Miis from the Wii U and 3DS.

I'm glad to see that the Wii Fit Trainer has an alternate costume! I wish that Mario can have Dr. Mario be his alternate costume. I'm not saying that every character should get an alternate costume, but, on the topic of this, Mario kinda comes to mind.

There is lots-o-talk about Mario dressing up as a doctor for Halloween. I personally would hate this.

It has been my dream that there will be a DLC with the 4 Melee vets who are sure to not return (meaning all of the Lost, save for Mewtwo), returning as DLC characters.
Think about it, all you have to do is distinguish them.
Doctor Mario (my number one pick of the four, despite my deep-seeded hatred for normal Mario) could have all sorts of things. He is a Doctor, so why not make him a Chiropractor from Hell? Why not give him a needle full of anesthesia, and let him put you to sleep before he puts you down? Why not make him the God of Pressure-Point Strikes? There is so much you can do with someone who has access to exaggerated medical equipment and an intimate knowledge of the human body.
Young Link: Make his face less resemble an ugly gerbil, and let him use his masks. Seriously! He could use his main three, alternating like PKMN Trainers, or perhaps through taunts, then have that Warrior God Mask (whatever the proper name is) as his Final Smash. Perhaps add some secret way for him to wear Majora's Mask instead...
Roy could have moves more realistic to his actual attacks Fire Emblem.
Pichu...well...I'm sure there's something...

Regardless, I want friggin Dr. Mario and Young Link to return.

I think that Zelda's look will obviously be SS inspired, but they will probably tweak it here and there. I can't see that exact same Zelda in the game, honestly. I'm thinking it'll be vaguely similar to Melee Zelda.

I looked up the Wii Fit Trainer after the Wii Fit Trainer was confirmed (I didn't even know it was a character), and no, they both are instructors of sorts, and have different voices.

So no, that won't be a problem.

I'm just warning against seeing this reveal as alternate costumes for a good portion of the cast as being confirmed. It really doesn't mean anything in terms of alternate costume confirmation.

This doesn't necessarily confirm "alternate costumes" per se. I think instead it's likely that you will just be able to choose the gender of Wii Fit Trainer, with female being the default. I expect that the same will be the case for Villager and Pokemon Trainer (with the male form being the defaults of those).

People expecting Dr. Mario/Dry Bowser/Outset Link are getting ahead of themselves, and people expecting crazy s**t like Lucina are getting wayyyyyy ahead of themselves. Implying that Miss Fit doesn't have a personality. I distinctly remember that she wanted me to get fit... into a coffin.

By the way, choosing the gender does in fact count as an alternate costume and the trainers are completely different people as they coexist on the same screen in Wii Fit.

OK, let me re-phrase. Whether or not anyone counts choosing gender and choosing an alternate costume as the same thing is irrelevant - what I mean is that this doesn't necessarily open the floodgates for alternate costumes given that it's tied to a generic character who is not more prominent in either male or female form.

People assuming this means you can change into a completely different character as a costume are insane.
That's the only reason why I'm scepticle about Dr. Mario.

The whole point of this kind of swap is keeping it the same character. And since Pokemon Trainer, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer aren't necessarily iconic characters themselves, they can be changed to the opposite sex without taking away their identity.

Outset Link would be a great idea and I can see that happening. Just adding thr hair animation would be the issue.

Dr. Mario is the only issue because he is technically his own character. Changing the announcer voice and chants to say Dr. Mario makes him a completely new character and not just a costume.
If the name and Mario were to stay exactly the same and just wear the outfit then it could work.

But a completely different Fire Emblem character for Marth doesn't make sense. The character is no longer Marth. So why make a character hidden within another character?

I don't know, I know what you're saying. I think it will be limited unfortumatley like how Wario was limited to only the other because it actually was one of his costumes.

They did have more in Brawl, such as a Daisy, Fire Mario, Wa-Luigi and Diddy Dixie costume. I think they will either spruce these ideas up a bit more with other characters, which is why I don't think Dr. Mario is a stretch. Who knows? Maybe they'll have costumes to be unlocked for some additional replay-ability value for those that are into that. And when you go into Very Hard Mode where their colors aren't default it could show them off! We just don't know yet, but this updates will raise some eyebrows.

For people saying they will gave totally different characters as costumes, similar to the infinite texture hacks out there, I'm highly doubting it.

Striker Mario concepts, Peach in a Rosalina dress, or Zora Link are plausible but given how Sakurai is, I doubt it.

Yeah, crazy people are gonna expect not just like Luigi getting Waluigi as an alternate form (he'll keep his Waluigi colors, though), which isn't going to happen, but insane things like Chrom getting in and Ike being an alternate form of him (despite the fact Ike is like 2 feet taller and 100 pounds heavier, actually is unique, and actually has a soul).

Toon Zelda is what I was referring to, yes, but a playable child Zelda could be partially cel-shaded like what other characters in Smash Bros. are if she were to keep her say OOT-esk appearance.

I really think we overestimate how much we'll get alternate costumes wise. And I certainly hope if we do get a lot of alternate costumes for characters with the potential to have them? It won't hurt newcomers.

I'd much rather have a new moveset to play than be able to make Mario look like Dr. Mario, etc.

Yeah, but it doesn't influence the roster size. We're already going to get hundreds if not thousands of character models made for playable and non-playable characters. That doesn't influence the roster size at all because it doesn't involve the gameplay and design developers.

If that's the case as you truly say then give me alternate costumes for just about every damn body. I'd just much rather if it's not the case we don't get overloaded with them taking the time to make models to use for alternate costumes, but no time to make models for you know actual newcomers, some of which like we've already seen with Wii Fit Trainer and most likely Villager could very well end up having their own alts.
