Interesting, I can see this happening to characters like Pokemon Trainer and Villager, but wasn't there a mention of alternate costumes taking away from a character or am I not remembering correctly?

I'm glad to see that the Wii Fit Trainer has an alternate costume! I wish that Mario can have Dr. Mario be his alternate costume. I'm not saying that every character should get an alternate costume, but, on the topic of this, Mario kinda comes to mind.

It's nice to finally get some new information after a rather slow month! So, Alt Costumes, huh? I guess female Villager and Pokemon Trainer are the most likely contenders to get them, which would also be nice to see. Whether we'll get more alt costumes than that remains to be seen, but...

Well there's also the fact that this is the first time we've had a pic featuring two of the same character, so we may start to see some of the palette swaps in the near future?

I honestly think everyone's overhyping this... Remember Wario? He was the only one to have alternate costumes in Brawl. Wii Fit Trainer might be the same. But, at least it can be considered a Halloween update...

It'd be scary if he was an actual separate character...

In some countries,this might require an extra announcer clip.In French,for example,it would awkward to hear that "Entraîneuse Wii Fit" won when you were playing as the Male version,since Entraîneuse stands for a female.

Nah,might affect balance,unless you mean slighty different animations with the exact same effect as the female WFT,but I don't think it will happen.

I was scanning Miiverse, and people are yelling at each other about Mario and Dr. Mario. A lot of people are saying they're separate entities, therefore there shouldn't be a Dr. Mario alternate costume. I know the argument is stupid, considering Male Wii Fit Trainer is obviously a separate entity from Female Wii Fit Trainer, but what do you guys think? Are Mario and Dr. Mario the same person? Even if they aren't, I think Dr. Mario should be nothing more than an alternate costume, and I'd love to see him return.

FINALLY something worth commenting.
I didn't have anything to say for the last 2 or 3 weeks of boring updates, but now, GODDAMN!

This guy changes EVERYTHING. I mean, having him as a possible alt. costume? His proportions are all different, and he'll probably have his own voice work.
If WFT can get that treatment, anyone can. I'll be expecting more of this in the game, and I hope it delivers.

At this point I think it would be a cheap cop-out to simply include as many alternate character costumes as possible, it simply wouldn't do the characters justice outside of characters such as Wii Fit Trainer, Pokemon Trainer, Villager, etc. It would also muddle the purpose of making a fighting/party game based on Nintendo's All Stars. Alternate costumes such as Link's OoT outfit, Mario's sports/ Dr. outfit are fine but to use entirely different characters in my opinion is where lines would be crossed.

Now peoples expectations are going to soar above reasonable levels as they are going to expect separate characters/entities as costume such as Lucina, Lyn, Roy/ Marth, Dixie/ Diddy, Daisy, Roslina/ Peach, Chrom, Hector/ Ike, Claus/Lucas, etc.

As I said in the character discussion thread, if Dr. Mario has the same exact properties as Mario then I'd rather not see him in at all.

And by "properties", I don't mean "jus chaynje fiyaballs to PILLZ" like some people seem to think is the only difference.

That is my point, I've already seen people suggest character costumes like, Lyn and Marth, Matthew and Isaac, Waluigi and Luigi, etc. Costumes like this don't work in the same context as having Male Wii Fit Trainer and Female Wii Fit Trainer as it cheapens both characters involved.

This is an alternative costume but people need to keep in mind that they probably won't do anything that will entirely turn one character into another. WTF Trainer makes sense because it's a simple gender swap for an avatar character. I think, however, this does significantly raise the chances of alternative costumes for characters and may be some of the only DLC that I could get behind.

Also, I'm kind of hoping for something big tomorrow just for the sake of blowing us all out of the water. You have to admit, this update has left everyone reeling so the set up for a knock out punch to finish off the week is all too easy. Overly optimistic but I think a lot of us here are like this every Friday.
