Dang, Dillon looks friggen cool. While he could have easily had a different moveset then Sonic, I get why he isn't added. Though he really would have been the perfect surprise character. One that everyone wanted but wasn't sure we'd get. His series certainly has enough to offer Smash, and I say that as someone who didn't really enjoy Rolling Western that much...at all actually.

His stage would have been amazing: a flat trail guarded by turrets that shoot at players. Every once and awhile rock monsters would lumber across.

So an other harsh and direct deconfirmation? hmm... I wonder...

Either way he looks cool.

Well it would have been cool to see him as playable, but you know just the simple act of being in smash let alone in a fairly prominent element is a pretty big honor for a newer franchise like dillons.

I can't be angry about this. Look at his design. Atleast he's in the game.

Maybe an AT reveal for Daisy. :awesome:

Hopefully, this gives them the boost to make another Dillon's Rolling Western game!

I hope....

That fact that he's an Assist Trophy means he won't be a playable character...

But Dillon appears, nonetheless! Yes!
He looks good, too!

The updates are starting earlier again now, so I'm missing out on them.

Me too. They're seriously awesome games. Both of them. I know the second wasn't as good, but the characters rock, the music rocks, the setting rocks and the whole idea behind the game rocks. Plus, it's quite challenging too. A perfect ongoing e-shop game.

That's how I feel. This boosts his chances of getting more games and becoming playable in Smash someday.

Though I honestly think that Sakurai discounted him because of his similarities with Sonic.

You neglected to mention what is perhaps the most important point.

That there are literal rock monsters.

I think he'll charge up, and if he connects he'll swipe at you with his claws.
If they made that as visually awesome as it looked in RW he could easily be on of the coolest ATs in the game.

Don't know why but a assist trophy who charges around and hits multiple time has me kind of nervous for Jill as an AT now. Seeing her booted as an AT would be unbelievably cold

I had to double take; at first I thought he was a character when I saw the pic....
...then I saw no page for him and read the comment.

Huh. A part of me thought he was going to be playable.
I was mostly neutral on him. But he just looks so great.
I'll be supporting him for the next Smash is he gets a new game.
From what I've heard, his games were really fun.

Oh yeah:

Another thing that rocks about Dillon’s RW are the Rock Monsters. Those things really Dwayne Johnson.

There’s nothing more satisfying than attacking enemies in that game. Except maybe watching them blow up metres before the town.

Maybe Dillon took Jill’s spot as an AT… because she is now playable ;)

I've never been a huge Dillon supporter due solely to the fact that I never thought he stood a realistic chance, but I have to admit, I got a little excited when I saw the picture there and immediately looked down at the characters below to see whether or not he was a newcomer, because obviously Sakurai is just going to randomly start posting newcomers outside of Directs now. He just looks that cool, though!

It's unfortunate that he wasn't big enough to become a playable character at this point in time, but making it to assist trophy status already is still a pretty big deal! Hopefully it boosts his popularity enough to where he stands a chance of getting a big hit game and making it in the next Smash - I'd totally be on board for the Dillon hype then! ...We can dream!

Well, as much as I generally don't care about items, at least that's a notable disconfirmation; I saw Dillon speculated an awful lot. This also continues the pattern of moving on from stuff we saw in the direct; hopefully next week will be full of new and exciting things.

Sad day for me. I really wanted Dillon to make it in. His model looks amazing in HD, though! At least he made it to the game somehow.

My condolences to those who wanted him playable.

I've never played Dillon's Rolling Western so I can't say I wanted him myself.

That aside, I have to say: Great model for an Assist Trophy, better than most others.

No one? Really? Fine, I'll be the one to say it.

I would have preferred Dillon to Sonic as a playable character.
Controversy! Why not both? I think I'd take Sonic seeing as a Mega Drive was my first ever console. There are a lot of characters I'd cut in order to see Dillon in though.

I would have liked to see Dillon be in Smash if Sega decided they didn't want Sonic in Smash. I would like to think he would just have a Copy-Paste moveset to please the fans.

Only Sonic's spin dash would really fit Dillon. Dillon would be more of a hard hitting Sonic, who uses razor claws and guns. He's way more badass than Sonic has ever been.

It wouldn't please me at all to see Dillon cloned as Sonic, seeing as his moves don't match.

A copy paste moveset of Sonic? That wouldn't be very pleasing.

Sonic seemed like an amazing addition to the series.

Then I played as him.
That's completely fair, and true. I wanted him to be buffed in SSB4, but it doesn't look like he has. Three of his special moves involve him rolling into a ball. So annoying.

Still. It's Sonic!

Anyone want to theorize Dillon originally being planned for a character but moved to AT?

Maybe even BECAUSE of Sonic

Hey now, let's not jump the gun here.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Sonic fan. I think he's awesome and uber cool.

But Dillon is a Cowboy Armadillo who has razor claws and guns and sets up turrets to kill giant rock monsters, which he can also tear apart with his bare hands, all of which he does to protect townsfolk.

Hm? Don't they point him out as having been buffed in the direct?
Sorry, I mean buffed in the sense of changed moves. You're right, they do say he's been buffed.
