Actually, it's more on-topic than the current debate/flamefest, so no need for the apology.

And yeah, I figure that's about the time they'll show more too. Er...either August or September that is, if I had to guess.

I agree no need to get off topic, there are other forums for that.

Knowing Nintendo................. it could seriously be anytime. They don't announce game son how far along they are, they just throw them out at random.

My bad. The smack talking is partially my fault. Im guessing around Christmas time and more into the new year since the release date is 2010.

Guys, this debate is pointless so can we forget about it?

Anyway, I'm guessing screenshots will be shown at the fall conference (?) and even then I'm not sure that will happen. A new trailer won't happen until 2010, I think.

Sensible response

Welcome to the thread.

My time table would be for Q4 this year and all Qs next year

What other games has team ninja done?
♣ Basically Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden titles for different mostly Playstation or Xbox. This is the first time they will work for a Nintendo game. Can't wait to see what it becomes when it comes out. ♥

♣ Edited: Man I'm so slow with my reply. XD ♥

those series are pretty **** successful so expect it to be a good game.
They are successful, I think most of the worry in regards to Team Ninja is whether or not they'll make a good METROID game. I've not played Dead or Alive or Ninja Gaiden, but from what I know neither is very Metroid-y. Obviously it's not impossible for them to broaden their horizons, but it's a possibility that they won't.

Well, the gist of the interviews thus far is that R&D1 will be handling the making of the Metroid game, while Team Ninja will be making it a 3D experience, so hopefully that dynamic yields positive results.

Well according to Gamestop the games ships on New Years Day.
They do that a lot. They put down a completely random date for a game when they don't know when it will be coming out. The fact that its new years day makes it even more obvious.

Still excited for this game, and I hope it DOES come out Q4, but I highly doubt it.

New years day would technically make it Q1 ;)

But they're just saying New Years because the only known date is "2010"

Plz don't hate me for saying this, but there is something unsettling about this combination for me. Considering this is the team that brought us crap like DOAX (I'm not saying Gaiden is crap), i don't trust Ninja with the IP.

Btw, i know nintendo is supervising this project, but even that doesn't reassure me much. I just feel more comfortable with Retro Studios. But i digress, Metroid can't stay 1st person forever.

Augh!!!!!!

2010!!!!!!!

I can't wait that long!!!!!!!
You and me both, this Metroid game looks too tempting, and it feels like 2009 just started to me, and I'm already wanting it to end to get some of the games that come out in 2010. D=

Could those enemies possibly be Rios?

Anyone who has played NES Metroid or Super Metroid knows what I'm talking about (look at the eyes, wings, and claws).

Those annoying things that flew around (probably not the best description)?

Yeah, could be. Is there some sort of official artwork of them from the original game to compare?

Yup, they are. My bad with the Ki-Hunter thing, they look pretty similar but aren't identical.

Reo(/Rio, that's an earlier spelling)s are in Metroid 1, Super Metroid, Fusion, and Zero Mission. Here's what they look like in each:

The deceiving thing is that the (default) colors of Ki-Hunters are almost EXACTLY like that, like such, while the Reos have never been that color. But as you can see, Reos have legitimate claws, whereas Ki-Hunters have spear-like hands.

I'm pretty sure Ki-Hunters also have large eye-like domes on their foreheads.

You just have to trust that Ninja will do well with this game. At first, people were going wild and saying that Metroid Prime will be an abomination because there was no way you could take the beauty of Metroid's 2D platforming and turn it into 3D. Everyone thought Metroid Prime would be a disaster.

Look what happened. It was one of the best Gamecube games, if not one of the best Metroid games ever made.

I have a control scheme that could work for 3rd person shooters, although it's inconsistent with what was shown in the M:OM trailer.

The Wiimote pointer moves your crosshair but doesn't turn your character since 3rd person allows for a wide field of view already. The analog stick moves your character like it would in any 3D platformer, except the camera always stays behind the character. The camera would also have to be zoomed out quite a bit to let you see around you for platforming to work. A is jump, B is fire, down is for morph ball mode, and pressing C cycles through your beams/missiles. If you hold Z, your analog stick movement turns into strafing and the Wiimote pointer is used for turning, and this would allow you to look around and aim more easily but limit your platforming.

Has anyone checked out Shadow Complex? It's basically an old-school metroid but with slower gameplay and easier exploration for the casual audience and prepubescent 14-year-old achievement ***** on xbox live.

It looks like an cool game. I don't think it should get its own thread because from videos it really gives me that Metroid vibe of exploration and that 2d aspect and the minimap is just basically the same, the different colored doors which open up with different weapons, and even a reference to the old Justin Bailey code.

Also using this post to shamelessly bump this one up.

I swear this game looks like it has the potential to become the greatest game ever made. Its got first-person shooting, third person shooting, and even some sidescrolling areas. On top of that, it looks like its going to have an excellent story and beautiful cinematics to go along with it.

2010 cant come fast enough.

(and yes, there is a chance I may have to change my signature to include Metroid: Other M when it is released.)

I keep thinking the same thing.

But you gotta remember that there are a LOT of factors that would make this game great, that at this point could go either way.
