I can't seem to do well against Marths, but on both my characters' boards I'm told it's not as bad as I think it is, so maybe it's just that I personally can't deal with Marth? *shrug*

Kind of strange though since I love fighting MKs...

Wi-Fi Marths ain't gud. I mean if u see MikeHaze, he plays so patiently and knows to how to perform Marth's moves @ right time w/ Marth. Scrubs Marth is easy to ****, eventually u'll possibly 2 stocked dem anyways.

I seem to face really good Marths lately (often), I just space Bair and fireballs and lag his attacks with FLUDD if he tries to approach and punish him later, my saying is just hit him after he swings his sword.

Yea but I don't know much about facing patient Marths though and I've haven't been to many tournies lately, in my last one I got knocked out by a Marth when I came in 23rd place out of 67.

EDIT: I think I'm the worst Mario here.

Wishing Apex 2012 happened again.
lol marths are easy, mk isn't cause mk is like better version of marth ;)

good marths who are aggro and PLAYS SAFE/TIPPER GAME, give you a run for your money (from experience, mintyflesh)

good marths who are patient and dont just swing their sword and wait for mario to swing his attacks first (from experience against Rukkiko/m4ge/PD etc)

mikehazes marth playstyle is really unique l like it lol.

its just hard finding a reg good marths since most bad marths just swing their sword hoping itll hit lolz

Okay, keeping in mind that Fair beats out all our aerials and ground moves range wise and autocancels, that gives us two frames landing lag. According to their frame data, his DB comes out on Frame 4. So if buffered, you have 6 frames to get inside and punish him. Sure, a fireball would work, but that seems to be about it.

So... someone explain how I hit him after he swings. I mean for KO moves, sure, but if he plays patiently and spaces correctly, then just saying to punish doesn't help. I need to know how. FLUDD isn't a bad idea, but it's not spammable enough to make me consistently punish, not to mention the Marth player should start catching on.

EDIT:

Hippy, while that's true, there is one big disadvantage MK has in this MU, and that's he can't plow through projectiles, and has to stop to shield or dodge them. It's not a huge advantage, but it allows you to disrupt your opponent and to a certain extent control what he/she does.

Marth...really, I don't know. The matchup can be fine or outright terrible, although I do think in theory Mario does have enough tools to make the matchup winnable at high levels. Of course, if the Marth sucks, Mario wins it pretty easily with his camp, punish, and gimp tools.

I think the worst part about the matchup is learning it on the spot. If you play against a really good Marth and don't catch on to their playstyle quick enough, you will get destroyed swiftly. A Marth that knows what they're doing and makes very few readable mistakes is probably one of the most intimidating matchups in the game by far by virtue of his insane zoning options.

Also, learn to SDI DB. That helps TREMENDOUSLY.

My singles results are awful. I think I've beaten 2 people in singles max (should've beaten more but didn't know how to play certain MUs). I normally don't get a break. I've faced Zucco, JG and Kid in singles and played Atomsk, Inui, Ally, Diem, and Shadow in teams. I remember me playing like an idiot and losing to a Lucario in September and I lost to a Wario a couple days ago, both players I think I can definitely beat now. There was also this Wolf/ROB I lost to but he won and I think he deserved to win. I'm not gonna john because I learned a lot from losing some of these especially against that Wario.

Unfortunately, I can't really go to tournies except my own and ones on Sundays because I plan to host monthlies and I'm normally free one Saturday a month. By the time I'm free, I'm gonna have a job as a counselor at a summer camp which unfortunately clashes with me going to APEX 2 (I'm so mad I can't go to that. It's like a 5 minute drive from where I live) I might go to 3 more max after that job and then I'm in college. This means I will have to find smashers wherever I go.

Marth you pretty much won't shieldgrab without some trickery on your part, but instead, B-airs out of shield are a good option for Mario.

A combo guide to Mario? I want in on this. I have a lot of tips to give on this, since I waste a lot of time experimenting with this stuff.

Im the only mario that actually finds a use for dtilt. I use it for mindgames. Seriously, everyone knows mario's dtilt sucks, so why bother to DI it? I know it wont work everytime, especially on floaty *****es. But its funny as heck when i pull it off.

You can Jab cancel into D-tilt...Jab Jab D-tilt is not a bad combo to be honest, since it's a way of doing more damage than your standard Jab combo, and it's slightly more reliable than D-smashing.

Thats true A2Z, but Dtilt is too laggy at 0 damage. You gotta wait till around 25-30% for that combo work. And thats how I usually set up my Dtilt to Fsmash "Combo"

I always get punished when I just Jab-D-tilt (which I sometimes use accidentally in place of D-Smash)

For anything about Marth, you gotta camp him and get in and do the best you can. Marth is probably Mario's 2nd worst MU because Mario gets ***** by people with fast, long range pokes which are primarily MK and Marth (G&W is too slow). You just gotta straight up outplay the Marth to win or he makes mistakes.

D-Tilt -> Fsmash

1337 Mind games LOL
Actually that's not bad. Dtilt sucks. We all know that. Better yet it's bad if they don't air dodge. It has little knockback and it's a free smash if they air dodge.

Try this combo: jab > jab cancel > jab cancel > Dsmash. This is a very safe combo Pierce showed me yesterday. The thing is that the first 2 jabs are technically safe on block because the fear that they will get hit by the 2nd/3rd jab. If they see the cancel and try to react, it won't work because you can cancel your jab to jab again before they can do anything due to shield stun plus the time to drop the shield and use a move. If they get hit by this, then you just racked up some good damage on them. If they shield it, you are in a completely safe position unless they PS the Dsmash.

Pierce has an amazing Mario and a great play style. I learned his play style yesterday and I improved dramatically that day. The thing about his play style is that it's confusing if you don't know why he's doing what he does. I can explain it pretty well if you want.

it's not that difficult to beat marth online, most marth players on wifi, makes terrible mistakes so i can juggle or spike them, marth offline would **** me. Some of them fall for the up tilt > up tilt > dgrab > pivot dgrab.
