He kills fireball approaches SOOO easily though. If the marth player knows how important they are to Mario...then they've learned the bulk of the matchup.

Guys, we lose the Bowser matchup.

Also, fighting a good Ike is the dumbest thing in the world. I couldn't do anything. Needless to say, I got *****.

My pool was:
2nd seed Nicole (Peach - L 0-2) Got dominated, 'nuff said.

Lou (Mr. Game and Watch - L 0-2) Blew two late leads after controlling the match throughout. Matchup wasn't that bad.

1st seed Blue Rouge (Wario - L 0-2) Forfieted. Last match of pools, it was late so I got my cuisine on.

3rd seed Mene (Ike - L 0-2) An underrated as hell female smasher, gave everyone trouble. Two stocked my Mario and was my most frustrating match of the tournament. Lost a one-stock game two with Sheik. Only time I played Sheik this tournament.

Joshkip (Sonic - W 2-0) He forfeited. Things came up and we couldn't play. I went to get food right after.

Fzk (Diddy - L 0-2) Last match I actually played. Played like crap and was in a rush to go eat. He was good though. Match started at like 7:30 pm. I'll just call johns on this one.

Fun tournament, ran too long. I'm still balls.

Ugh, yeah, pools ran hella late. They started at like 5:30 though, so to be expected. At 3 AM they were still in losers semi...

Also:

reverse cape as in caping away from olimar when he throws pikmin at you.

here this is what i told fromundaman when he asked me for advice:

[12/28/2010 3:57:12 PM] Vato: olimar info: Olimar Matchup

-when you have a lead camp with nair, dair/reverse cape, It kills all the pikmin/latch back to olimar. if you have the lead you dont have to approach.

-when oli is trying to get back down read what he does, and keep him in the air

-Dthrow at low to mid percents puts Oli in a really bad position.

-At Higher % DI away from olimar's Dthrow, don't airdodge or hit his sheild

-Yellow pikmin have 0 hitstun

-Nair beats all pikmin or cancels them out

-Olimar has no ledge options, just wait

-When dair camping don't hit his sheild and jump higher if he tries to upair

-Don't land near olimar
[12/28/2010 3:57:29 PM] Vato: -Cape>whistle
[12/28/2010 3:57:36 PM] Vato: cair ***** olimar offstage
[12/28/2010 3:57:40 PM] Vato: *cape
[12/28/2010 3:57:55 PM] Vato: dair>nair in SH for good sheild pressyre
[12/28/2010 3:58:07 PM] Vato: as i said when olimar is on the ledge
[12/28/2010 3:58:20 PM] Vato: all he can do is bait you with upair
[12/28/2010 3:58:31 PM] Vato: he has no safe option to get back on capitolize on this
[12/28/2010 5:02:46 PM] Fromundaman: Awesome thanks
[12/28/2010 5:03:14 PM] Fromundaman: When he's at the ledge, are fireballs useful, or should I just wait and punish?
[12/28/2010 5:03:38 PM] Vato: fireballs are useful to pressure him to get off
[12/28/2010 5:05:43 PM] Fromundaman: okay, thanks.
[12/28/2010 5:05:57 PM] Fromundaman: All this is very useful, especially the Yellow pikmin thing.
[12/28/2010 5:06:22 PM] Fromundaman: So if, for example, he Fairs with a yellow Pikmin, I can just Uair/UpB him back?
[12/28/2010 5:06:36 PM] Vato: something like that
[12/28/2010 5:06:56 PM] Vato: the hitstun isnt really 0
[12/28/2010 5:06:59 PM] Vato: buts its really low
[12/28/2010 5:07:41 PM] Fromundaman: gotcha.
[12/28/2010 5:09:23 PM] Fromundaman: Thank you very much. Now I need to find an Oli to practice this stuff on before facing one in tournament.
[12/28/2010 5:09:44 PM] Vato: yeah
[12/28/2010 5:09:50 PM] Vato: avoid getting grabs at low percents
[12/28/2010 5:10:08 PM] Vato: its better to get gradual pikmin throw damage
[12/28/2010 5:10:13 PM] Vato: then getting grabed
[12/28/2010 5:10:28 PM] Vato: because they can just read for dangerous damage
[12/28/2010 5:10:39 PM] Vato: so its best not to get grabs at low %
[12/28/2010 5:10:50 PM] Vato: always di away
[12/28/2010 5:10:56 PM] Vato: NEVER airdodge into olimar
[12/28/2010 5:11:23 PM] Vato: its better to nair or maybe UPb at the last second
[12/28/2010 5:13:33 PM] Fromundaman: All right.
[12/28/2010 5:14:35 PM] Vato: stage control is important
[12/28/2010 5:14:38 PM] Vato: who ever has it
[12/28/2010 5:14:40 PM] Vato: wins.

this matchup is really hard but, mario can win it if you manage to gimp olimar or kill him early.
I am reposting this because HOLY **** this advice works.

I didn't know about the yellow pikmin thing, but everything else sounds right. damage will rack up over time with the throw though. And if he lands grabs it's so damaging and aggravating. My bro mains olimar so i have some experience. i hate the MU though. Who wins is really dependent on how efficient he lands grabs and his pivot grab is so gay.

The no hitstun yellow pikmin is only for throws. So if he d-throws you with a yellow pikmin, that means you can up-b him back.

I also think Bowser beats Mario.

If Marth beats you only because he can attack through our fireballs you're doing it wrong. Against characters who need spaced aerials to remain safe you have to WALK a lot - back and forth - to get a better chance for a powershield or to screw up his spacing. Marth has no safe move up close ... so be smart and patient when you get there - don't use fireballs if you see they don't help you.

I've never played a serious Bowser main, but idk, the Bowsers I've played haven't been much trouble.

Marth doesn't beat Mario because he can neutralize fireballs, he beats Mario because he destroys us on the ground and in the air. He has superior range, superior priority, superior ledge-traps, superior grab game. Marth is actually a lot like Mario (minus a projectile), except he's viable.

"Priority" is a cliché

Yeah, Marth beats Mario but he doesn't **** him. It's not as simple as you make it seem though ... Marth is powerful in the air. When he is on the offense - if you get him in the air in a defensive reaction he's in a lot of trouble. The problem is that Marth has better tools to put us in a bad spot to begin with but he's weak if he's above you in the air ... and if he's close to the ledge ... and if he hangs on the ledge ... there a plenty of times where you can abuse Marth's inherent flaws. It's just that it's easier for him to keep you in the bad position once he gets you there.

Aerial Marth players are the ones that I perform well against.

It's the ones that know how to properly use his ground-game that cause me problems. DB, Dtilt, pivot grabs...all relatively difficult to deal with for me. Fair too, but that's easier to bait and punish IMO.

His recovery's an enigma to me too...I feel like I should be able to gimp him EVERY time, but I can't.

I've never played a really good Bowser, so I'm unsure of how I'd do. However, I also don't know the matchup.

I just want to say, I laughed really hard at just about all of you eating money on the OP.

I need to eat some Monopoly money and make a profile. I'm doing it right, yeah?

Ahhahahaha...haha..ha. Yeah, about that. I love Mario, but Ness will always be that icon down there.

Don't worry though, Caleb knows how big a Mario fan I am.

If you want to get technical, a while back American dollar used to be 2:1 ratio compared to Canadian dollar.. but American value has depreciated since then, up to the point where not too long ago it was actually 1:1.
