Hero, in your metagame thread you mentioned running out the clock as a viable option against Olimar and others. I thought it was pretty intriguing, I'd never thought of Mario as having a time out option. It makes sense though, the more I think about it. If you can't approach safely, just don't.

I'm going to start running the clock out on Sonic.

I personally don't believe it's a viable option. If you're timing out the opponent they're going to approach you and it's not like we have something broken to make us invincible all the time on the ledge or any other way of avoiding the opponent for an extended period of time...

If you're on the same stock and think timing out is going to work, it won't, especially in Olimar's case. He'll get enough damage just camping so that you'd lose.

Plus, Sonic always has to approach anyway, unless he's winning. So it's doubtful you'll be able to time out Sonic.

Kanzaki I'm curious...

How do you time out effectively, and is it actually worth trying to time out Metaknight, and can it be done? Or will he just own you offstage :urg:.

Going off stage is always risky against a good Metaknight, but I've managed to gimp Havokk multiple times before in a doubles match.

What I do to time out is round around on the stage, and get on the edge and plank if needed :]

it takes street smart and ****LOAD of ****ing patience, (Orion is good at this xD)

you need to take advantage of mario's speed and all of his tools obv, you need to play constantly safe and plank when it's needed (like tony said b4)

usually i do is just keep camping until they approach and just hit and run for a few bits and just rinse and repeat, stock leadddzzz

Haha, thanks guys xD.

I'm not interested in planking at all, aggro Mario is too good! But I was just wondering how you guys do it effectively, I fail so bad at it.

I plank when i feel that the opponet is in my uncomfort zone. I usually just cape stall and see if the opponet will approach me. I also uair -> Up B stall to attack if the opponet is near the ledge. I will also rarely let go of ledge -> double jump -> dair towards the stage then fall back onto the ledge.

Planking with Mario is mostly to get the opponet to apprach. I also use it to give me some time to think about the situation I'm in.

I wonder if we were able to master Cape teleport could Mario destroy MK's planking?
No, because Metaknight would have to have a hurtbox that we can cape.

When planking... he doesn't, plus, from my studies Cape Teleport only affects auto-ledge snapping out of Up-Bs, and no MK in his right mind is going to use Up-B to plank.

And guys... good luck timing out good players, seriously. Our planking is terrible when you consider the fact that trying to use Up-B in order to plank is punishable and gives us RCO lag, honestly... we shouldn't ever be planking at all, unless we're looking for an opportunity to get BACK on the stage.

I say this because I strongly feel that being on the ledge is one of Mario's worst positions ever, if the opponent is playing a GOOD character (or if they're a good player in general), they're going to be able to punish any option you use to get back onto the stage, unless you play it completely safe, we have much better options than running to the ledge.

For instance, if, like Big O said somebody is pressuring you too hard and you're uncomforterable, you have WAAAAAY better options than running to the nearest ledge. You could Up-B them OoS in order to break their momentum, Usmash/Dair/Bair-> Run away, anything to get them off your ***. They're much better options than running to the ledge like a scared little Metaknight (except Metaknight is actually GOOD at planking), and losing a stock because of it.

Camping is good though.

I've gotten closed to timing out the following players in a tourney set using Mario:
DSF
Commander Beef
X
Ajax
A bunch of not so good players.

These were all in recent tournies.

being on the ledge is a automatic disadvantage position for you and for most characters anyways

if you need to cool down... just camp lol.., only being on the ledge you just plank for a while until you get ur head straight

I'm going to say this now, they all suck if they can't beat a Mario trying to time them out.

The only character I could ever think that would even be possible or NECESSARY to time out are the Ice Climbers.

BF is really good agianst timing people out.... ive timed out a IC's there. Just keep jumping platform to plaform/cape glides/reverse cape glides and wavebounced fireballs/breverse fireballs(as mix ups) make bf a good timeing of your opponent out stage good. If you sheild and they try to upair you can UPb oos shield since uPb start hit box reaches below the platformand will hit them most likely unless they space perfectly. Obvously timing people out isnt the best option but it is one.

As I said on the metagame thread, Mario shouldn't have to time people out most of the time. However if you can't get an approach in and you (luckily) have the lead, use it to your advantage.

You don't have to plank to time people out. Wario just simply air camps the entire time and spaces. Mario can just use a combination of camping methods (fireball camp, platform camp, ledge-camp) to run the timer.

Don't worry, the list is somewhat biased I think for certain characters...We all know who's been doing good things...

There are also too many people for us all to fit...Just look at the MK section

Wow I'm on for Mario? Awesome. Though I do think I should be a place or two higher, but that's just me.

Not being on Link is a disappointment though.
Furthers my belief that I'm extremely underrated and overlooked with him. :\

I fail to see how Ike has like 8 top users, and Link only has 3, not including you.

Oh well go wreck some *****es for us Kirin. They'll be sorry one day. =)
