So many good Mario games...

SMB3, SMW, SML, SML2, SMRPG and SM64 are some of my favorite old ones. I also loved PM 1&2, SMG, and NSMBW. Oh, and M&L:SS.

Sunshine was decent--not my favorite, but not as bad as people make it out to be.

I've loved many Mario games. I like the earlier Mario parties, Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, Mario and Luigi trilogy, Mario Land 2 (the one with Wario), baseball, tennis, Mario RPG, etc. Favorite is the Paper Mario series that were RPGs. I had Super Paper Mario but I didn't like it much.

Super Paper Mario was cool but they just mesed it up by not making it have the same playstyle as Thousand yeardoor witch I thought was the best Paper Mario..

In a way the game makes me fill intelligent

Alright, uuh here's a summary of my tournament.

Yea I had fun playing doubles! It was a round robin, so I definately got in a lot of doubles matches.

Singles, uuh.

Played a Fox (Guard) lost 1-2.
Played a DK (Mars1) 0-2, lol yea f-smash ***** Mario's recovery.
Played a Diddy Kong (Nevermind) 2-0'd him, fun games!
Played a ROB (HolyNightmare) he should've won 0-2 but he SD'd on his last stock so I won...but I really didn't, so if you want to consider it 2-1 go for it, but it's 0-2 for me.
Played a Snake (Banc?) lost 1-2.
Played a Bowser (King Kong) lost 0-2, omfg he makes Bowser seem godly O_o, he's so **** with Bowser. Gave me suggestions for the match-up! So hopefully next time we play I do better.

Overall, not pleased with my pool results, but we had a pretty diserve pool, and fun and close (well some lol, I got ***** in others =P.) matches with them all.

Yea, I didn't make it out of pools, so I'm sad :(. But had lots of fun! Also I got a friendlies in with ThatGuy, his Mario is still ****, he should get back into Brawl ;). Played Ally once too lol.
Hey Matt, fun games. Your Mario is aggressive, I like that; it's the right playstyle for him. You'll get better when you master his close-range game and prediction ability :).

I'll give you tips on beating those guys later (except Banc never heard of the guy, and Nevermind because you already got his number LOL).

Crash always yells Shoryuken, he got 2 Shoryuken kills on M2K in doubles. (Then M2K started yelling SHUTTLE LOOP, and stuff like that.)

Smash64 is a Ness/Snake main who beat Famous at Pound 4 (I also believe he's 40 something on that national power ranking list or whatever.)

Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to play Infern. (The guy who beat Boss)

EDIT: Smash64 went all Ness against me because... well I'm not sure why. Probably because I was playing a low tier too.
Well, he does main Ness... Snake is his second, though I thought he would have pulled him out against Mario. He did for Famous. That being said, that was Pound, so I guess there was more at stake too (Though I think Famous was the only one he used Snake against in pools there).

From Columbus area and AZ's Diddy really didn't know how to handle a good Mario. After all, Ohio generally doesn't have to worry about Mario (I'm the only one who appears in Circuit events and I secondary/main Pit as well). I've played AZ before, but obv Xero is better than I. A lot of people here don't know the match-up and Ohio loves the low and mid-tiers in the mids/mid-highs of our heirarchy.

I was in the same tourney, but I wasn't in the same pool as Xero. Casual'd him and got smashed, but I got some wins. I should have some videos up, I guess. Also played 64 and it was... a trip. Narrowly didn't make it out of pools, but playing people throughout the night, I got some decent wins, I guess. Ice Climbers are kind of a *****.

Props to Xero and Calebyte, who I hung with for most of the night. Xero's impressive and I think Calebyte and I are roughly on the same level, though I believe I beat him in all but one full game played. To you Cale, keep working man, I'm seeing some good stuff from you.

Don't give up in the middle of stocks! I believe you played Sole's Zamus. It's tough for everyone here, too.

[EDIT:] M2K is pretty hilarious, Indiana people, you guys kind of missed out.
I play Mario too, but I usually use Kirby against most Diddies, especially AZ's, so yeah.

That being said, I kind of suck anyway XD

I don't think he KNOWS very much about not-MK characters.

He also said "I don't think MK is very good, it's just me."
I think he was BSing with you there, though he does think he is THAT good (to be fair, he is, isn't he?). I mean, he thought MK was so good that that was the only MU he'd ever need to learn until recently!

EDIT:

SMRPG is the best Mario game ever.

Hey guys I found out how to beat Diddy, grab one of their bananas and lure out their **** with fireballs/cape, it's so legit it's CRAZY.

Like, they have no options if you're camping right, if they attack your shield, you can punish with the banana/up-b OoS.

It's mad legit, the safest option they have is grab, which is really really easy to read.

Sounds pretty good, Diddy isn't exactly my most difficult match-up, but it can definately help my Diddy match-up. Except the Dash Grab being easy to read, doesn't Diddy have a very good and fast Dash Grab?

Well, with this setup, Diddy's options are going to be really restricted (like he does to many characters with his own bananas) the trick is to basically keep your front covered with fireballs and punish with banana -> move, if you find yourself in a bad situation, you can throw the banana somewhere and try to get him away from you via aerials/grabs.

Ducky and I were playtesting this matchup earlier. He's a very very good player and he felt really restricted when I did this to him.

mario is vulnerable when he fireballing ...a good diddy will look for opening and when you fireball thats the perfect opening for diddy to get inside. Though if thats the only bannana out it's very good xero...It better to have a bannana right in front of you while you fireball spam because you have more options and the diddy will most likely try to get the banana and diddy becomes very punishable/readable when doing this.

imo

I've tried putting the banana in front of me/whatever, it's still GOOD but it's not as good as this tactic is, especially considering you can retreating fireball as much as you please.

Then again, I've yet to try it on an actual Diddy main, so thus far it's all speculation about how it'll work. Luckily, there's a Diddy main at the tournament I'm headed to this weekend. (Also, he's currently ranked the best in my state, with me as second so we'll see how it goes.)

Basically, I'm trying to replicate Diddy's banana control with extra fireball cover that Diddy doesn't have. If you can control both bananas, you're at an even bigger advantage! =D

Wishing Apex 2012 happened again.
its best if u put the banana in front of you because, diddy's approach options become limited, he has to either dash attack (which is obviously punishable) or approach by the air, which you can cover with fludd/cape/your aerials, plus your fireballs, basically you create a wall in front of you.

i actually think mario's stage control if he had the bananas would be ridicious lol, having fludd/cape/fireballs/bananas, that's so ridicious. basically if u set up your bananas right, diddy kong has no real way to approach except for maybe a sideb or some ****

IMO, Cape doesn't help that much in the diddy matchup, it just makes them more cautious about throwing bananas at you.

I mean it helps... sometimes. >_>

Also, Diddy has a plethora of options if you have a banana in front of you, he still has his rolling/spotdodging ect. so he can dodge your stuff, and then you have to run towards him in order to punish it. With a banana in hand, if he rolls/spotdodges/does whatever, he trips and you get a free punish.

But I guess that's just a theory, I've spoken with Count and I've been learning how Diddy works and what he punishes, so I'm trying to work stuff like that into he matchup.

Anyway, off to bed.

What to do against banana from far away:

Hold R

Await impact

Press Up on control stick (or your preferred method of jumping)

Press Z

Profit.

The camping tactic planned seems to be too... static. Restrictive. Guess I'll just have to try it myself whenever I get the chance. If it could push the advantage towards us that'd be nice.

This tactic only working when Diddy isn't too close. If he follows the banana, this gives you Fair to the face.

That being said, it is generally a good idea.

did xero just say cape doesn't help in this matchup?

LOL
The only problem with the cape in this MU is a whiffed one gets punished hard, and you're bound to miss a few, considering how useful it is in this MU.

Not really.

You'd have to be spamming cape in front of Diddy's face to get punished hard. Otherwise you're relatively fine.

well diddy's banna game is easy to work around since cape is too much ****
C/S, it gives you better control over his bananas AND makes him cautious about throwing? I know a couple high tiers that'd kill for a tool like cape in that match-up.

Anyone know about momentum breaking fireballs?

Jumping towards the enemy and flying the opposite direction is an example...It's somewhat like B-Sticking without actually B-Sticking...

Rofl, it's like... Reverse B-Sticking!!

In a sense, yes...but different.

Heres something to play around with...

Go into training mode. Approach the cpu with a SH backflip and quickly B-Stick a Fireball towards the enemy...Once you do this, quickly pull back...

You should fly away from your opponent while facing him...Somewhat like a wavebounce and different at the same time...

The difference is the possible distance you can go depending on how you buffer the pull back...And from what I witnessed, it also breaks momentum if you get hit...Its not as convenient as bucket breaking though and you could kill yourself attempting to do it...

Might not be that useful but it's something to mess around with if your interested...
