So I've never been in a tourney before so I'll just ask this:

Is it customary to change your team each round or do you just stay with one whole team for the whole tourney and then fine tune it to your needs?

Sorry if it's n00bish, but I've never been in a tourney :p

this applies to almost any tournament of any kind, preferably ones with fighting

you can do whatever in between rounds, change whatever you need, it's called counter-picking, as long as what your doing is not cheating, you can do it

so if you want to change your team in between rounds, you are allowed, just make sure your other teams are within legal standards

So it wouldn't be customary to peek in other people's matches in order to find out what team they're using and make a counter to it?

I'm a bit paranoid of that happening to me :ohwell:

That would be the "cheating" aspect of "cheating".
Plus, you're able to see if someone pops in, soooo....if you're that paranoid, have more than 1 team ready.

Can finals please not be 3/5? :(
Make it like best of 1 and 2/3 for finals
I actually agree with this completely. I wanted to say it for the last tourney, but I kinda forgot. Best of 1 helps keep the tourney running more smoothly and cuts down a bit on drop-outs and no-shows, thanks to the fact that it's much less of a hassle for the players to just find time for a single match.

Counterpicking just makes no sense in Pokemon which is why I never got the whole 2/3 thing. It becomes a total mind**** with well if he stays with that team i can do this but he'l expect me to do this so I'll do this or if he does change to counter what i had then i can counter that counter with this counter BLAH! it doesnt make sense.

it's not neccessarily counterpicking in pokemon, it's more keeping your opponent from knowing your team well

after you battle it once, you know what to expect, if he switches his team, now you gotta re learn his team

it's not counterpicking, it's just counter...strategy thinking i guess

At this point I don't even care any more. If you guys don't read the rules then that's your choice.

You two have been signed up.

Actually, I'm going to be busy as all hell for the next fourteen days.

If you could remove me from registration, that'd be nice.

:| I'll definitely enter the next one I can though.

LC is fun, won my first ladder match and made some guy complain about [REDACTED] in chat because it has no counters.

I read the rules 3 times before I saw it :mad: Sorry Tery.

Can someone explain the EV system for LC to me? I don't really understand it the way Smogon explains it.

I just tested with EVs in the team builder until I got optimal spreads.

No problem. :D I'm fairly new at competitive battling, as this is my first tourney. But I've tried little cup before, so I figured why not.

Haha, that's awesome. Again, thanks for signing up. Registration will close on Fridays and the matches will be set-up ASAP afterwards.

The necessary investment for extra points is as follows: Number the base stat ends in - First extra point/Second extra point/Third extra point/Fourth extra point (if applicable).

* 3 - 12/92/172/252 EVs
* 4 - 4/84/164/244 EVs
* 5 - 76/156/236 EVs
* 6 - 68/148/228 EVs
* 7 - 60/140/220 EVs
* 8 - 52/132/212 EVs
* 9 - 44/124/204 EVs
* 0 - 36/116/196 EVs
* 1 - 28/108/188 EVs
* 2 - 20/100/180 EVs

So for example, let's say I wanted to increase all of Dratini's stats by one point. These are Dratini's base stats:

41 HP
64 Atk
45 Def
50 SpA
50 SpD
50 Spe

This is what I would run to increase all those stats by one point:

28 HP/4 Atk/76 Def/36 SpA/36 SpD/36 Spe (216 unused points)

Now let's say I want to make him an all-out Dragon Dancer with max speed and attack and the rest in SpA and HP with no increases in other stats. Here's what I'd run:

28 HP/244 Atk/36 SpA/196 Spe (6 unused EVs)

An easier way to help is to start with the base amount needed to increase by one point and add 80 to get to the next point. The amount of EVs needed for an increase in one point is:

Ends in 0 - 36 EVs
" " 1 - 28 EVs
" " 2 - 20 EVs
" " 3 - 12 EVs
" " 4 - 4 EVs
" " 5 - 76 EVs
" " 6 - 68 EVs
" " 7 - 60 EVs
" " 8 - 52 EVs
" " 9 - 44 EVs

If you haven't noticed, starting with 76 EVs for a base stat ending in 5 and ending at 4 EVs for a base stat ending in 4, as a base stat number increases by 1 the number of EVs required decreases by 8. In other words, 1 Base stat = 8 EVs.

So to sum up, you need to plan your EVs a lot more carefully in LC. The usual 252/252/4 method doesn't apply here.

Also watch out when using Hidden Powers. For instance, when using ScarfDour, HP Ground will lower its Speed by a point. Speed is HUGE in LC, and it needs that extra point. Luckily in LC, you can just add an extra 4 EVs to the lowered stat and it will raise up to normal.
