Here are a couple 3.0 snippets/bookmarks from this past "Wavedash Wednesday" at a chill local gaming lounge (EXPGaming). Sorry if twitch is being choppy for you, but apparently I cannot upload these since the length of the entire video is too large. also don't feel inclined to put these up on the OP since they are kinda ghetto and I still have much to learn.

HarryTheChin (Link) vs. "Shion" (Fox/Marth) $5 Bo5 - Money Match

HarryTheChin (Link) vs. Double (Lucario) - Loser's Bracket Round 3

HarryTheChin (Link) vs. Jpalmarius (Link) - Loser's Bracket Round 4 (Link dittos FTW)

This is how I felt opening this thread. Can't wait to go through some of these vids <3. I wish I had a capture card to get some feedback from fellow Link mains, maybe someday...

some new videos posted on my channel from our recent live streamed smashfest

These videos are of my link - i really REALLY enjoy him in PM. I can't exactly say I've been practicing with him a lot, as I really haven't been playing much this year at all - but there was some cool stuff in these matches regardless. Especially at the end of my match vs Bladewise ;P

Enjoy!

Long time no see guys. I finally got a much better recording setup going and I recorded matches a few days ago

Whoever's looking for a capture card to record, I highly suggest getting an Avermedia LGP. You can record without the use of a computer, which is nice.
On the downside, you'll have to use component cables or an HDMI converter. So if you're expecting an easy way to record tourney matches, I don't think this is a solution. (due to A/V only port on CRT TVs)

I'm done guys.
The double/triple spoiler tag issue has to have a solution. Can anybody help me?

Anyways, I put BryE's vids in the OP under P:M 3.0. Enjoy!

You don't have to instantly throw out your grapple when recovering, wait for the move to finish sometimes so you're still invincible and then grapple and recover.

What do you mean? Are you talking about the Zair regrabs that I do on the ledge?
If so, I normally do that so I can gain invincible frames and use an aerial attack after ledgdropping/double jumping.

I didn't watch a ton of your matches but one time Mario Baired you while you were recovering and I think you could've waited the Bair out with the airdodge before grappling.

Also when you were fighting you were mainly just /camping/ or going in (remember I didn't watch all of the matches). Try to weave in and out more with the rang and bombs?
Idk just a suggestion, I liked your jab -> run away -> pivot grab and other stuff.

I mainly play an aggressive Link, because it's fun for me. But there are times when I do camp a bit. As for these matches I didn't really camp but I felt as if I was throwing out projectiles just to throw them out (mainly my boomerang). I normally use my projectiles to setup/block approaches instead of just racking up damage.

I meant using projectiles to weave in and out instead of going from /camp/ mode to aggressive sword/foot mode.

I'm putting the "camp" in / because it's not really camping.

Edit: Sometimes you ran in with a crossup bair into an F-Tilt (Jab might be better there?).
Instead of doing an F-Tilt you could disengage and then SH away and rang them before approaching again.

Just an example of what I mean

Edit2: It's just different types of pressure I guess. Passive pressure and then aggressive stuff.
Kinda like footsies vs. CHARGE!

I use charge for a lack of a better word.

Do cross up bairs actually work on shield? I try to run at computer opponents and short hop past them while making sure that the second hit of bair hits the back of their sheild but they shield grab me out of the first hit. Am I doing something wrong? How do you guys use cross up bair?

land behind them so they cant grab out of shield or use your second jump before you hit the ground and FF a nair

that's because you are spacing it wrong or you are doing it at the wrong percents, if they are shielding you have to go all the way through them on the FIRST hit, otherwise you're still in front and they'll snag you still.

the other problem is that if they are at too low of a percent you can get cc grabbed on the first hit, and depending on your spacing that will actually turn them around to grab you even if you go through them

one thing of note is that you should try to mix in RAR bairs because it can be a little bit sneaker than just throwing out a forward facing bair at an awkward unsafe angle

and for another 2 hit attack memorize platform layouts and do rising fairs through platforms so taht the first hit of the fair will hit the shield as well as the second hit - if they try to punish the first hit they'll generally get popped by the second, and if they know you're up to some shenanigan shield pressure you'll still be pretty safe if you've spaced and throw a jab out after

I think he means while he is in the air, after his first kick of Bair hits the opponent shield grabs him.
Yeah this is what I meant.

Thanks Gimpyfish62. I'll try that out later. I think my timing is just wrong or something.

OP will be updated soon

Is there a thread where I can post some tips to improve Link better?
Also here's some vids I have, probably will post more in the future since my area records often.
Are doubles allowed in the OP? If so I'll just post them here too for now.

How do you do spin attack to ledge cancel?
You can do it by either running forward and up-bing as you fall off the stage or by moonwalking and up-bing as you are falling off. You need to make sure and do a grounded up-b and not an aerial one which can be tricky if you use default controls(but possible, I can do it almost 100% and I use default). Just takes practice.

Isn't there a thing where if you input enough inputs then you'll stop tumble? I heard it during a commentary. Apparently people rock the control stick left and right really quickly.

That's a good point. However, I don't remember inputting anything at the time...

I don't think it's because you had a bomb pulled out, because one of my biggest problems is being sent into tumble with a bomb out & no second jump. I can't airdodge out of tumble or do anything other than throw the bomb, so unless I'm sent up very high, I can't bomb jump out of it.

If you're put into tumble you can break out of it by moving the control stick back and fourth like you are dash dancing.

Harry, you should work on your Up+B punishes. I saw a couple you had openings for at kill % that were crucial. My Link has a similar problem, Gimpy pointed out that I'm really good at zoning but he's never afraid he's going to die cause I don't commit to finishers. I think this is actually an issue with many Link players. Link has the tools to secure those kills but it's the commitment to those tools that is difficult. Solid foundation for Link play, my friend.

@ H HarryTheChin : I watched some of your vids. You have a good Link, but you were getting a little too n-air happy at times where it would have been better to use f-air. N-air is good as an anti-air, but f-air is much safer on shield. I like to use n-air for air to air combat, but when Link n-airs a shield, he can be punished every time, so long as his opponent realizes it.

@ Wolf_ Wolf_ : I remember watching you on stream at Apex, and I watched some of your vids that you posted here. For now, I really can't think of any useful critiques, but maybe I will in the future.

@ Skeith Skeith : You played Link in Melee right? You look like you have solid fundamentals that carried over from your past experience as Link, but I don't see you really taking advantage of Link's new features such as using AGT to get back on stage and using z-air as a combat move. I think if you sat down for 30 minutes to an hour practicing AGT stuff off stage and Link's new bomb-jump recovery, you would skyrocket in performance. Honestly, you have all the hard stuff down like the good spacing etc.
