I think it counts for the job, amirite?
Golden Axe
A classic sega beat-em up. Golden Axe has a large number of sequels and spin offs to pull content from. It usually makes it's way into these Sega crossovers in one way or another. It still receives merch to this day.
In terms of characters, the most likely options are the original heroes: the dwarf Gilius Thunderhead, the heroic barbarian Axe Battler and the amazonian Tyris Flare, along with their opponent, the villainous Death Adder. But there are other options we could pull from the later games including Chronos the Beastman and Dora the Centaur, among others.
This is really cool.(in a robotic voice) "GET READY!" (cue the iconic theme, "In the Blue Sky")
Job #147: New Series - Virtual-ON
Virtual-ON is a series of action shooter/3D fighting game-hybrid video games developed by SEGA AM3 and created by Juro Watari since it's first installment, Cyber Troopers Virtual-ON, originally released for arcades in 1995, featuring Virtuaroids (or VRs in short), which are essentially large fighting mecha robots decked out with weaponry that players control in fast-paced battles against enemy Virtuaroids with their twin-stick controller, in which two joysticks are complemented by an array of controls (developed and released specifically to be used with it's SEGA Saturn port). It achieved three sequels: Oratorio Tangram, Force and Marz, alongside a collaboration with Dengeki Bunko's light novel series, A Certain Magical Index, for the game "A Certain Magical Virtual-ON" in 2018 and a recent compilation re-release of the trilogy, "Cyber Troopers Virtual-ON Masterpiece: 1995-2001", which was released for the PlayStation 4 exclusively in Japan on 2019.
Despite not lasting long, the series was quite successful during it's time, thanks to its Gundam-like characters designed by the famous artist Hajime Katoki himself, and highly unique control scheme in which mechas are actually controlled like industrial machinery, thus revolutionising the use of the twin-stick control system in video games. It garnered a pretty decent cult following and SEGA seems to like referencing it pretty often, as a playable version of the original arcade game can be found in Yakuza Kiwami 2, and some of the more recognizable mechs, such as Temjin and Fei-Yen themselves, showed up in crossovers such as Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 and Senko no Ronde 2. Related merchandise include plastic models, trading figurines, light novels and audio drama CDs.
Considering that Virtual-ON was a fighting game based on mechas, it has a huge variety of characters in both fighter/assist jobs, stages (like Distorted Shrine), bosses (Z-Gradt) and awesome music to bring up for Battle of AGES, such as (a list is big, but those below are examples):
- Temjin - The series' poster mascot, who is an all-around fighter armed with a laser blade that can be transformed into a energy rifle and used as a flying surfboard for a powerful gliding ram attack, even using large Power Bombs to blow up enemies/opponents.
- Fei-Yen - Another iconic mascot, who wields a beam rapier/bowgun-combo weapon and is very agile/fast, despite having weak armor/defense. When her health drops below 50% or severely damaged, Fei-Yen will glow golden and enter the "Hyper Mode" state, gaining increased speed and attack damage (much like Terry's Desperation Move gimmick in execution, but only buffs her stats).
- Apharmd - A soldier-based Virtuaroid, who is mainly suited for mid-to-close range combat, being equipped with modified dual tonfas called "Tongfers", which he can use to create gusts of wind and a close-range beam shotgun to blast opponents. Like Temjin, Apharmd is also armed with Power Bombs.
- Raiden - A powerful and heavily-armored (allowing him to dish out lots of damage), yet slow Virtuaroid, who has plasma cannons hidden within his shoulders that fire huge laser blasts, a bazooka and can sacrifice his armor for a massive speed boost, as seen in Oratorio Tangram.
- Viper II/Cypher - One of the fastest Virtuaroids (with poor defense like Fei-Yen), Viper II can shoot homing beams from the launcher on its chest, use its 7-way spread missile arm cannon as a laser blade and has the ability to transform into a fighter jet to ram into enemies.
- Specineff - A cursed, skeletal-like assassination Virtuaroid, who is quick and weak in speed/defense respectively, even wielding claws, a gigantic beam scythe/rifle (used for homing ghostly fireballs and scythe shockwaves), shuriken-shaped wings that he can throw at enemies and possesses a unique ability of disabling weapons. He can also make himself completely invincible for a short period of time when his damage is getting low.
- Angelan - A blue sorceress-like Virtuaroid, who uses her staff to control the element of ice, able to attack by shooting freezing beams, generating barriers and summoning floating ice pillars or giant dragons. Like her predecessor Fei-Yen, she has low defense and a comeback mechanic, which will grow angelic wings on her back that makes her more powerful and gives the ability to fly for a short period of time. She pretty much acts as a counterpart to Specineff's death-based motif.
God, I hope so.I feel that the base roster is gonna be wacky...
We're doing a guest character eventually, but for now, noJust found this and have a question. Are third party characters aloud?
Ok. Cause the few suggestions I have at this point are mostly related to legacy characters associated with the Genesis that SEGA doesn’t own. We're doing a guest character eventually, but for now, no
Well, we're currently voting for a series to add a character from and Fighting Vipers is one of those franchises.Ok. Cause the few suggestions I have at this point are mostly related to legacy characters associated with the Genesis that SEGA doesn’t own.
but for now.
- Ristar
- Candy (Fighting Vipers)
- Amy Rose
- Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel (like ice climbers with the Chaotix teather)
- Billy Hatcher
- Segata Sanshiro (most wanted)
My bad. Should have read more of the thread. I guess i’ll vote for Fighting Vipers then.Well, we're currently voting for a series to add a character from and Fighting Vipers is one of those franchises.
If you want, you can place your vote and see if that goes in your favor.
Sorry to break it to you, but Segata and Billy are deconfirmed non-playable characters.Ok. Cause the few suggestions I have at this point are mostly related to legacy characters associated with the Genesis that SEGA doesn’t own.

Wait what!?! Why!?!Sorry to break it to you, but Segata and Billy are deconfirmed non-playable characters.
You see:Wait what!?! Why!?!
We've already added Billy as an assist and Segata as a bossWait what!?! Why!?!
That is… that’s just criminal. We've already added Billy as an assist and Segata as a boss
We had to give the rest of the fighters a fighting chance by not putting Segata on their level. You know he'd win with his pinky finger otherwise. That is… that’s just criminal.
Personally I don't see either role as particularly egregious. Segata would be an amazing fighter, that's true, but we just felt he'd also make for a really fun boss. And to be completely honest, Billy just isn't an essential character. At all. Not in the slightest. I'm down for more obscure grabs, but Billy has very much had his time in the sun by now and the general consensus here is that at this point, it'd just be more worthwhile to look elsewhereThat is… that’s just criminal.
You've been hit by-That is… that’s just criminal.
I know you really like the Obscure and unpopular stuff, so why can't we put Vectorman in the Roster as DLC Character if won't make a cut in the Base Roster.I'm down for more obscure grabs, but Billy has very much had his time in the sun by now and the general consensus here is that at this point, it'd just be more worthwhile to look elsewhere
