The Legend of Zelda Discoveries Thread

Is Awesome.

Also known as the Spam Diversion Thread. This thread is for any of those odd, weird things that you may discover while playing LoZ, such as easter eggs, glitches, or just plain silly things. This thread was made to keep spam in the form of "WOOWWZZZ! CHECK THIS OUT ITS SO COOOL I DISCUVERED SUMTHIGN!" to a minimum, so that people can get on with their lives instead of flaming people for being dumb enough to post something like that.

Rules:
-No Spamming (Emphasis on this)
-No Flaming when someone brings something really obvious up. Just say, "Yes, we know that."
-Read the SWF Rules before posting here.
-No posting just for the sake of getting your post count up... AKA spamming to an extent. Try to be helpful in every post. Make it count in quality.

So, anything you would normally post as a new discovery that you just found out, please post here. This includes in-game glitches and the like.

Hopefully, this thread will never have to be used.

Tentacruel salutes you: :073:

This is probably old but I'll throw it out there anyway.

In OoT. Place a bomb next to a Hylian Gossip Stone.

Right here, not quite now
I'm sure most people know about this but... If you peek through the window in the courtyard in Ocarina of Time, you can see a bunch of pictures of Mario characters.

Lol. Mind controlled chickens.
Totally useless, but still awesome.
You should have been able to summon a horde of chickens along with it.

That was actually one of the biggest let-downs of TP. I wanted to be attacked when I killed those chickens. They messed with one of my favorite constants of the games there.

Also, in TP, at the fishing hole, check for references to OoT's fisherman.

I attacked those chicken just to see the swarm.

In the least, the chicken controling could have lasted longer and actually had some use...

Like the seagulls in WW

Use the fishing pole on the fishshop guy's hat.
Good times, goooood times.
I was just wondering. You know that guard at the gate to Death Mountain? Do you think he really had a son that wanted that mask, or was he just trying to con a mask off of Link?

The Biggoron Sword in Hyrule Castle in TP. That's my personal favorite "discovery" in Zelda, although... I did see it on the internet first.

I think my favorite that I actually discovered on my own was the Sheikah Eye Symbol on the throne in the Twilight Palace. That alone spun a hundred wonders in my head.

Another easter egg, this ones for Oot.

In the fishing hole, if you distance yourself just right, you can cast your lure and snag the fishermans hat.

The Final Countdown is now playing in your head.
Ocarina of Time only for now. ;)

Empty Bottle Overwriting

In OoT, it's possible to get more than four bottles. In order to do so, equip an Empty Bottle. Then stand in front of a catchable item (Blue Fire is the easiest). Attempt to catch the item, but pause the game as Link swings his hand. Place any item in place of the Empty Bottle that you wish to be overwritten, preferably the Claim Check or Magic Beans (when you completely use them up). Unpause the game and Link will catch whatever item in the Empty Bottle. The item that you replaced will now be overwritten as a new bottle.

Swordless Link

Fight your way up to Ganon and to the part where he knocks your sword out. DO NOT EQUIP THE BIGGORON SWORD/GIANT'S KNIFE.

-If you're playing on a gold cartridge, save and quit the game to continue.
-If you're playing on the regular cartridge, then perform the PAIO (play any item as Ocarina) glitch, which is done by emptying a bottle (with a recatchable item in it; a fish is recommended), recatching whatever was inside the bottle, and do a barrel rollckflip. While in midair, press the C Button with the bottle you just used, AND another C Button with a Longshot, Boomerang, Megaton Hammer, etc. (or B for your sword, even) and you now will be able to use it as an Ocarina.
-If you're playing the GameCube version, then perform the Rodless glitch, which is done by renting a fishing pole, walking over the water with the Hover Boots, and casting the line before you drop. You should now be able to walk around as if you didn't have anything on the B Button. Exit out, jump in the water, and you should be swordless/rodless.

Being swordless enables you to perform many other glitches in the game, and also lets you use different weapons on Epona (though, the Longshot may freeze the game).

Infinite Skulltula Tokens

Go to Hyrule Castle as a child, where you first encounter Talon. In the corner of the gated fence (with a tree in it), play the Song of Storms, and a grotto should open up. Bomb the walls until you find the Gold Skulltula. Kill it, and get the token with your Boomerang. BUT, before the token gets to you, step into the portal, and the message that you normally get when you get a token will be cut off (ex. You destroyed a Gold Skulltula!). You can do this many times over, provided that you always step into the warp before the token gets to you.

This one is an exploit in polygons in Oot:

Go into the hallway between the Master Sword pedestal and the 3 stones in the Temple of Time. As your walking towards the pedestal, notice the walls around that area, get closer until you see them change. If you want you can turn around and have the same effect in the main room.

Recently saw this on youtube and its heaven for those detest MM's timelimit:

Wait until theres only a few minutes until the moon falls. Look in the telescope at the observatory and leave when theres about 2 seconds left. The time it takes to exit the telescope will overide the 0 seconds and the moon crashing cut scene. You'll now be in day 4 with no time limit. Learn the scarecrow song to regain access of your start menu and bam all done.
It will freeze if you talk to specific NPC's because they don't know what day it is lol. Your now free to roam MM without a timer.

Also, even though theres no timer the sun still moves so when the day is supposed to change, it actually says "Dawn of a New Day" on the screen with a bunch of lines under it. That is just awsome.

Edit: 3 good findings, I discovered two of them.

1) You can use Feirce Diety's Mask anywhere through a simple glitch. (I'm not explining it, go Youtube it).

2) Everyone says you can't leave Clock Town with the Fierce Diety Mask on (The guards won't let you leave..) But I found out how you can. I won't reveal it because others will video it (because I can't) and take credit.

3) This one is really interesting, I found this aswell but others may have noticed it. Go look into the telescope in the observatory. This is hard to explain but if you look in the general area of grass between you, the swamp, and the town you should see the same image of Skull Kid that is on the tree when you visit the swamp the first time. This is really neat.

At the end of OoT, Navi flies out the window of teh Temple of Time. This window, however, was closed. For years, people (few, but still some) criticized the game for it's lapse of common sense. Really! A fairy through a closed window!?!

In TP, in the Temple of Time, Link climbs the "stairs of light" to enter the temple. He enters though the same window Navi flew though. Interestingly, as you approach the window, it disappears. Suddenly, there were fewer criticizms, and MANY more theories that Navi is hiding inside the TP Temple of Time!

Also, when you think about the depth of the Temple of time, you realize some really weird relationships. For instance, while the layout is slightly different, it is clear that the TP ToT is supposedly the same ToT as in OoT. Considering the Master sword is not in the TP ToT, one can assume that OoT link has taken it, but not defeated Ganon (or it would have been returned.). So that means while you are solving the ToT puzzle in TP, OoT link is off killing Volvagius or Twinrova at the same time!

Hmmm... That was much less interesting than I thought it'd be.

This is just a funny little thing, but who's ever played Saria's Song after they get the Ocarina of Time, but before they go to the Temple of Time? Saria says something about how she's glad to hear from you, as always, but that her ocarina sounds different, and wonders why. I always thought it was funny.

In A Link to the Past Nintendo hid a room with Rupees. This room was Chris Houlihan's room. He won a contest and they made that room in the game "his". Not a huge discovery but when I was young I was totally like "Who the hell is this Chris?!".

Someone already mentionned the Infinte Skulltula trick which is very awesome :D But I wanted to say it >_>!

Hmm other discoveries...Oh

Sheik is a man. I had always thought it was a disguise and not a full transformation into the opposite sex. Awesome stuff though

That's actually far more interesting thatn you thought it'd be ;)

I dig this kind of thinking, and while I can't say this is the first time I've considered this, I've never really given it as much thought as you have. So essentially, there are two Links during a moment of Ocarina of Time. This only further supports The Errant in the Zelda Project!

*tries to push his theory down everyone's throats again.*

So... is it possible that TP takes place during the 7 years that Link "disappeared" after removing the sword from the pedestal? Perhaps TP is a kind of dream-like manifestation of OoT Link's mind, where Midna is a replacement of Navi and he has to defeat Ganondorf to kind of prove his courage (Like ness has to defeat the Mani Mani Statue in Earthbound) so he can awaken to defeat the real villian.

Perhaps the warrior that teaches TP Link the sword moves is actually OoT link (you) and that's why you can both seem to change into wolves, and why the master sword isn't where you left it, or why the sages don't have faces, etc...

Again I'm sure there are theories to debunk this spur-of-the-moment one, BUT GOD NINTENDO, MAKE ME A GAME THAT FITS INTO THAT 7 YEAR GAP PLZ.

Again? You've spoken of this amazing theory before? I cannot support you any more. This is the absolute best theory I've ever heard. While I'm sure it's probably not true, I think it's one of the most interesting theories I've ever read.

In Twilight Princess, Link explores a distorted, almost dream-like version of Hyrule, where everything he knew is still somewhat intact, but altered ever-so-slightly.

I also came up with a similar theory that the events of Majora's Mask are entirely a dream, which would explain why Termina and its citizens resemble Hyrule to some extent, but are very much distorted, just as our own dreams may often reflect places we know, but they're never accurately depicted. Also in our dreams, everyone and everything - even people we know in real life - are actually ourselves merely represented by their images. Everything in our dreams are ourselves, hence, why Link becomes these other people.

Likewise, you may be interested to hear, everyone that you see in your dreams are people that you've already met at some point in your life. They could even possibly be people you saw as an infant. The human mind is unable to "make up" people, and as a result it pulls faces from a vast untouched library in your mind, and even as it does this, you don't remember those faces from real life.

I'm really glad you like the theory.

My theory before hearing Neherazade's idea was that Zelda Wii takes place in the 7 year gap, and just as you need to restore the power to the master sword in WW, during that 7 year period Link travels to another world (be it a dream or not (perhaps even the twilight/sacred realm itself)) and has to save the master sword's essence so that he can bring it back to Hyrule and together they can defeat ganondorf.

My only problem with the idea of filling that 7-year gap is that when Link awakens, it's supposed to be a big surprise for him as well as the player that he's aged 7 years. And Link is clearly shocked by his adult form. Perhaps he does something and has no memory of it, but it just seems iffy. Rauru specifically says that you were asleep for 7 years as well, so he would have to have lied, or been unaware of you doing something then.

But IF TP is a dream and is dreamth within that 7 year gap it's still normal he'd awaken surprised to be an adult.

Basically, without us knowing, Twilight Princess might secretly be another Super Mario Bros. 2, except Nintendo didn't want to tell us this because they knew our dissapointment would be too great!

Edit : I just remembered...this whole "dream-like" type of deal. It's happened before - Link's Awakening. This further supports the above posts theory

Also, phantom hourglass

(Since is was a COMPLETE plagiarism of Link's Awakening down to almost every detail)

Also, in TP Link himself is having a dream at one point, is he not?

Zelda is often sleeping in the games, or someone gets temporarily knocked out.

Basically dreaming is a big part of the zelda series, just like music and animals.

Thing is, we can dig deep and find plenty of meaningful things that are just coincidences. Nintendo can even take profit from a "mistake" like that. What I mean is they could as easily take a theory from the geekiest Zelda fan and say : "That's right, that was our intention". So gay :(

Then again, if there is almost irrefutable evidence of something like what's been mentionned above, now THAT would be a discovery.

The only problem is that Twilight Princess is set 100 years after Ocarina of Time. Of course, Eiji Aonuma may have just made that up, since he then explained this with the Split Timeline Theory (since Wind Waker was supposedly set 100 years after OoT as well). I say it comes between ALttP and WW.
