marriage is a strange phenomenon
it by today's social standards involves mostly a legal commitment to share property and forfeit half of it if [read: when] you divorce (50+% divorce rate...).
on the other hand, it supposedly entails an emotional/devotional commitment; hence you marry at a church and take vows blah blah
We might want to believe that the emotional stuff is what really matters and that the legal stuff is just a minor detail, but the institution of marriage has really just become, for the most part, one of the many ephemeral expressions of "love" comparable to that of giving someone flowers on valentines day (and then returning the favor with sex), while acting as a tool for others to steal your money.
I think we've, for the most part, lost the whole part of marriage that dealt with commitment, and that is the part that seems to matter most in the scriptures when they discuss marriage and it's related topics, one being pre-marital sex.
these are just my thoughts, but perhaps if you replaced the word "marriage" or "betrothal" in such passages with "sincere lifelong commitment of devotion to a member of the opposite sex," you might be better off understanding the notion of waiting until marriage
i could go on and on about my thoughts concerning this subject, but they would vary by audience and it's a whole lot easier to talk about verbally
also,
cam dont front like u gettin any ;P
