Now that base game speculation is over we can finally move on to dlc. Welcome to the Official KOS-MOS support thread for Smash Ultimate DLC!

All credit goes to Lynn Eslie Lynn Eslie for the dlc template above.

This thread is dedicated to getting KOS-MOS as a future smash character in super smash bros Ultimate DLC and will cover her abilities and moveset potential in depth with videos and examples. Keep in mind that this thread is for her appearing as a NAMCO REP.

FAQ

1) Who is KOS-MOS and why have I never heard of her?

A. KOS-MOS is from the Xenosaga JRPG series on ps2 that released in Japan and North America. Europeans only got the 2nd episode. You likely don't know who she is because Xenosaga needs more popularity worldwide. You might recognize her from Project X Zone, Mugen no frontier: Super Robot Taisen OG Saga, Namco X Capcom, cameos in tales games, and even as a CAS in the soul calibur series.

2) What can KOS-MOS do that is so unique for smash bros?

A. KOS-MOS is a one man army. She is capable of taking care of herself and rarely needs help when battling. KOS-MOS is capable of using Blades, swords, cannons, Gatling guns, drills, beams, sabers, pistols and much more. She has so much moveset potential and would be perfect for smash bros.

3) What is her relevance to Nintendo? She seems like such an obscure character.

A. A lot of fans are quick to diminish KOS-MOS to the lowest possible level of chances but they really don't know that she does actually have chances. KOS-MOS is Namco's baby and she is put in any crossover game that deals with Namco, not to mention Monolith Soft develops for Nintendo now.

A few examples include: Project X zone (She appears in this 3ds crossover game), Mugen no frontier super robot taisen OG saga (She appears in this ds namco game) She also has one of her own main series games on DS in Japan (Xenosaga I and II). Sadly, they have never been localized. KOS-MOS has recently been revealed as a Rare blade in Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Chances: With this reveal, KOS-MOS's chances for the next smash are higher than they ever were before due to a few things. First, we have her appearance in Xenoblade 2 along with T-ELOS which is a huge popularity boost. We know that KOS-MOS RE is a new design and revival of KOS-MOS which can hint that she might be a more marketable design in the future. Having her in smash would be a great favour to Takahashi (the creator of the Xeno series), Soraya Saga etc, but a favour to all her fans. It could certainly be possible one day that Xenosaga HD is released for switch and boosts the chances more.

Short Description: KOS-MOS is a beautiful Gynoid from the Xenosaga games. She possesses many different abilities that will be very beneficial for smash. She is the main character of the series along with Shion Uzuki. KOS-MOS is more the mascot of Xenosaga because she tends to be on the box art more often than Shion.

Now then, let's get to her abilities. I will post different gifs here

ABILITIES IN DEPTH:

Background: KOS-MOS has a ton of abilities that she can use in Super smash bros. Most of these will be ripped out of the Xenosaga games but also explain how they can function in smash.

KOS-MOS is a dedicated weapon. She has an ABSURD amount of abilities and weapons at her disposal. KOS-MOS is gifted with phenomenal strength and haste as part of her function to fight and destroy the Gnosis. Her body is formed from highly advanced nanomachines that allows her to transform parts of her body (specifically her arms) into various energy projectile and melee weapons. Her body is also able to self-repair and is very durable but not indestructible and she is also sheltered by a force-shield. She also possesses the ability to call various weapons from compressed space.

1) D-TENERITAS: A ball of concentrated Ether energy that she shoots from above her breast level. Once the foe is in the ball of energy, KOS-MOS throws a blade into the ball causing insane amounts of destruction. This is one of her most known abilities alongside her famous X Buster.

Video

The following techs can all be seen here for a better look:

KOS-MOS stars around 2:30

2) F-GSHOT: Her F-GSHOT is used with two large triple barrel gatling guns. She uses these in dire situations.

3) F-SCYTHE: A very large and very dangerous scythe which, when swung, can destroy enemies with ease.

4) Handgun: Basic handgun that she uses

5) R-BLADE: She changes her arm into a blade to attack.

6) R-CANNON: She turns her arm into a mini-cannon and fires a powerful blast.

7) R-DRAGON: A weapon summoned from compressed space which has three “claws” to it. Used to attack the enemy by grabbing onto them twice before the weapon itself is fired at them as a projectile.

8) R-DRILL: Another weapon summoned from compressed space, it is quite literally a large, hand-held drill which KOS-MOS uses to stab the enemy before using the drill function to drill into them.

9) R-HAMMER: Summoned from compressed space. KOS-MOS takes a somewhat large hammer and smashes her opponent.

10) S-CHAIN: A seemingly Ether based combat ability in which KOS-MOS hovers over the ground and three circles appear in the air and then form a triangle of energy directed towards the enemy. This kills instantly in Xenosaga Episode I if the enemy isn't immune.

11) Tertiary Weapons system:

KOS-MOS' optional weaponry, consisting of two phase transfer cannons. Her Tertiary Weapons System is capable of a range of 130 nanometers and was developed to prevent the worst case scenario from occurring and is capable of destroying an entire armada of Gnosis. When the cannons are fired, a cooling field in the shape of glowing wings is created behind the unit. She does not often use this weapon. It’s seen, at most, three times in the entire saga. This weapon would be overpowered for smash as it can destroy planets. I think this weapon can skip smash but I thought I would include it anyway for fans.

12) X-BUSTER: A powerful burst of energy beams from her abdomen. Her signature move in the whole series. It also makes a cameo in Tales of the Abyss as an attack for Anise.

13) Dragon Tooth: KOS-MOS calls out a large blade and sweeps the floor in a laser like fashion.

14) Storm Waltz: Pistol and G shots in quick succession

A Blade/whip (Becomes a combo like Link's sword stabs)

Side a (Scythe?)

B R cannon or drill (Can be charged by holding B) More likely that Cannon is better.

Side b Gatling guns (She fires them for about 2 seconds) Or pistol fire. If charged they can become stronger by a little.

Up b (Jetpack or a high jump)

Side smash: Scythe impact (Kos-mos slashes the opponent with her scythe)

Down Smash (D tooth) Kos-mos forms a laser out of her blade that sweeps the floor for a few seconds in saber mode.

Down a (Regular fast sweep)

Down b ( Ice crest) KOS-MOS freezes the opponent if they get near.

Final smash: X buster/D Teneritas/Nemesis/Hilbert effect

Up smash: R dragon (Kos-mos uppercuts with a dragon arm)

Up air: Short pistol shot

Side air: Has a sweet spot like Zelda's (A powerful kick)

Down air: R blade stab or D tooth stab (Saber)

Grab 1 (Down): KOS-MOS pummels the opponent into the ground with a kick

5-8: Ver.4 outfits in different colors

Speed | Between Captain Falcon and ZSS
Jump Height | Between average and ZSS
Grab Range | Same as ZSS

Neutral Attack | Uses some kind of blade/whip hybrid for each of her two jabs (Yup, only two)
Side Tilt | Stabs forward with a blade.
Up tilt | Slashes upwards with a blade.
Down Tilt | Same as ZSS. Can pseudo-crawl.
Dash Attack | Same as ZSS.

Neutral Aerial | Same as ZSS.
Forward Aerial | Shoots forward with a small cannon.
Back Aerial | Same as Forward Aerial
Up Aerial | Same as Sheik
Down Aerial | Divekick
Grab Aerial | Same as other grab aerials, but uses a blade/whip hybrid.

Side Smash | Same as ZSS
Up Smash | Same as Falco
Down Smash | Same as Mewtwo, but with electricity instead of darkness

Grab | Uses the blade/whip hybrid in a similar way to Mortal Kombat's Scorpion and his infamous harpoon
Pummel | Knee

Forward Throw | Same as ZSS's up throw, but the knockback is diagonal instead of vertical
Back Throw | Same as Ganondorf/Captain Falcon
Up Throw | Charged uppercut. Can be a KO if the damage is high enough.
Down Throw | Slams the opponent to the ground

Neutral Special 1 - R Cannon | Transforms her arm into a cannon and charges a shot, similar to Samus's Charge Shot. Very powerful when fully charged and can be charged in the air.
Neutral Special 2 - R Drill | The projectile is weaker, but has multi-hit properties
Neutral Special 3 - R Blast | The projectiles are much weaker, but can be shot mutiple times.

Side Special 1 - Scythe Slash | Similar to Ike's Quick Draw, but weaker. She summons her F-SCYTHE to perform it.
Side Special 2 - Scythe Impact | Has a lot less distance, but the attack is very powerful.
Side Special 3 - Scythe Rush | The move gains much more distance, but only the last 20 frames has hitboxes and doesn't automatically attack when touching an opponent, making her much more vulnerable.

Up Special 1 - Rocket Boots | Is very similar to Zero Suit Samus's Boost Kick.
Up Special 2 - Jet Boots | No hitboxes, but much higher distance.
Up Special 3 - Impact Boots | Only the final kick has hitboxes, but the move gains much more power and speed. Same vertical distance as Rocket Boots.

Down Special 1 - Hilbert Effect | Similar to Mewtwo's Disable, but can hit at every direction. Stuns whoever is hit within the move's range (shown with some colorful effects).
Down Special 2 - Hilbert Counter | Same as the Hilbert Effect, but works as a counter.
Down Special 3 - Hilbert Attack | Works like Jigglypuff's Rest (except it doesn't flower anyone hit), but much less powerful to compensate her already powerful finishers.

Final Smash - X-BUSTER | Shoots a very powerful beam from her abdomen. Works like Samus's Zero Laser.

Back in 2004, I first discovered Xenosaga after researching the companies associated with Baten Kaitos (namely Namco and Monolith Soft). Ever since, I have been fascinated by the series. Sadly, however, I've never had the chance to play Xenosaga.

Though it's probably wishful thinking, I think it would be ace if Xenosaga 1-3 got remade for the Switch. If that happens, then KOS-MOS has mine utmost support as the second Namco Bandai representative.

"All systems clear."
"Enemy force destroyed."
"All battle systems are go."
"No issues detected."
"The enemies have been exterminated."
"Mission accomplished."

Yeah, we'd all hate to unlock characters in Smash through RNG. Playing Crazy Orders over and over, trying to obtain those custom moves and Mii outfits was tedious already.

As for KOS-MOS, sure. She'd be pretty cool in Smash.

I'd love to support KOS-MOS!

But question though: is she first-party or third-party?

I mean, on one hand, Namco published Xenosaga, but on the other hand said game was developed by Monolith Soft, which is now a Nintendo-owned company. It's hard to know if she's officially a part of the Nintendo crew or if this is a Bayonetta-style situation.

Namco still owns full rights to Xenosaga. If you look at KOS-MOS' official Xenoblade 2 artwork, it says "(C) BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment" at the bottom right. Though it's easy to see where the misconception that Nintendo (co-)owns the IP stems from, with them buying Monolith, KOS-MOS teaming up with Fiora in Project X Zone 2, and the former's Xenoblade 2 guest appearance.

Surprised to see KOS-MOS has a thread, though I've been out of this whole speculation thing for the most part. I am pretty fond of her character, I've always found a lot of robot characters(especially more human looking ones) tend to act more like a human with robot qualities than vice versa. As someone who mostly just wants like, any remotely respectable villain in Smash right now, KOS-MOS is one of the very few protagonists that would actually really catch my interest.

Plus if nothing else, she could have a pretty flashy moveset, and given how much she has to work with in her source material there's no way Sakurai runs out of material.

Yeah, throughout all the games she has tons of moveset potential as I indicated in the OP. She'd be so amazing,

Oh wow! I shall put that in my signature :) Thanks @vaanrose

Honestly it'd be the Sakurai thing to do to have everyone expect Rex/Pyra as the new Xeno rep... but then he just puts in KOS-MOS instead. She'd be super unique and cool to have in smash, addd me to that list
Sakurai mentioned he loved the game in interviews so that is certainly possible. However, she'd be a representative of Namco as Xenoblade 2 is only a cameo even with her appearance, in my opinion.

Please consider me as a supporter! :) I have never played any of the Xenosaga games, but I have watched the cutscenes online. She's an amazing character and such amazingness needs to be shown in Smash Switch.

I support any and all mechanical maidens.

I've been wanting to get into this series; was hoping the December rumor for a Xenosaga trilogy remaster would be true but looks like I'll have to wait longer. I really wanna know what the story's all about.

I watched a story analysis of Xenogears and it's right up my alley; I love stories about re-incarnation/multiple lifetimes, god and man/machine and everything in between.

GUYS, I COME WITH AMAZING NEWS! Just saw this and had to update this thread!

https://gematsu.com/2018/04/bandai-...i-subtitle-also-sprach-zarathustra-in-the-u-s

Bandai Namco has trademarked “Also Sprach Zarathustra” in the United States.

“Also Sprach Zarathustra” is the subtitle of Xenosaga Episode III, which released for PlayStation 2 in 2006.

There have not been any recent developments in the Xenosaga series. However, this trademark might indicate Bandai Namco is considering remastering the trilogy.

If this is on switch.... oh my god she has better chances than ever. Please, and this news of a remaster I have been waiting for YEARS. I am so excited. I know it's not confirmed to be a remaster yet or anything but any Xenosaga news has me absolutely happy.

What the-...?

Regardless of the reasons for the trademarking, that is quite interesting, and shows that Namco has something in mind with Xenosaga, maybe not in the near-future, but at least it gives some hope to the series' fans.

Oh, wow. This is amazing news!
I was just about to break and look up the Xenosaga story, but this gives me hope I'll get to play it myself some time in the future.

As Troykv said, it might not happen for some time, but it makes me excited to think about a possible resurfacing of the series, and if we're really lucky, a possible connection to Smash.

Can't wait for the next few months.

I dont think it will be very far off. Either way we are probably going to have to wait until E3 to see for sure.

I invite the KOS-MOS fans to read this article that PushDustin and Source Gaming shared, the person here talks about KOS-MOS's recent story and her potential connection with Nintendo Stuff (alongside a lot of predictions and analysis for pretty much all the franchise).

Oh wow I'm super glad to see KOS-MOS on this list! Thanks for sharing! This is a really good article. I think she'd still be in the Namco section more than Xeno though as she's only a cameo in Xenoblade 2. It really depends on the model they use for her default.

T-elos is now confirmed as a Blade for Xenoblade 2. Possible cross-promotion for Smash or Xenosaga port?
Pumped for the next Xenoblade 2 update!

Now that got me thinking: would T-elos be a Dark Blade to contrast with KOS-MOS being a Light Blade? And also, from the looks of it, she’s a Greataxe user, but her weapons looks more like a scythe, similarly to Akhos.

Awesome! I wasn't expecting to see Maria T-elos in this game; I mean, KOS-MOS would be enough to do reference to the Xenoblade's roots xD

This would actually be good news for the future.

Thanks, I was just about to post this! WOW, I'm so excited to see T-ELOS in Xenoblade 2 and she'd be the perfect alt outift for KOS-MOS if she got in smash. Since we got the trademark a few days ago and now this.... what better time for a Xenosaga HD collection?

for those of us less familiar with xenosaga, whos she?
She is in Episode III of Xenosaga and created to be stronger than KOS-MOS. She is not exactly her sister but she is the exact opposite of her. She's very relevant to the plot of Episode III and also appeared with KOS-MOS in Project X Zone 1 and 2.

G GolisoPower She will be a dark blade most likely as in Xenosaga she is the opposite of KOS-MOS.

Well... I remember she a cyborg (kind of... she has many organic parts), designed with similar but also with opposite ideas compared to KOS-MOS's creation.

She is also considered the superior version of KOS-MOS and how she was supposed to be if that people have found the organic parts before... I guess xD
