I usually don't comment in the Pool Room but this thread was linked to me by a friend. Really?

People are this surprised by this news story? It happened ages ago...I mean, it's certainly tragic and all but it happened a year and a half ago...I thought everyone had heard of this story..

Just letting you guys know; children die all the time. If you placed more priority on each death than anything else you'd never talk about or do anything else.

Shocking huh

Now stop being such self-righteous pricks. Kid was prolly (obviously) an idiot anyway.

I always thought it was NAH-RUH-TOE... Do I need to suicide then? Man this reminds me of that story a while back where a little girl drowned herself in a beach looking for spongebob... appearently her mom went asleep while getting a tan and woke up scared when she heard paramedics and people yelling her name and what not. Weird how kids are SO ignorant that they actually think tv characters are real or think what they do is real that they suicide trying to find them or do what they do. Its so sad... well at first I kinda chuckled at the fact that the kid was that epic but now.... sad

Lol, I love it when people claim urban legends as fact. I was talking about the Spongebob thing, BTW.

Christ, no, the reporters don't know everything about every anime show out there.

Why is this so hard for people to understand? Who cares if they mispronounced it? What is so amusing?

Pretty sure they were more concerned about, you know, the kid's death, than how to pronounce the name of some show they've probably never heard of.

You'd think they'd at least learn to pronounce the cause of death. That kind of falls under the tenets of responsible journalism.

Nobody expects the reporters to know everything (nice strawman, btw,) but if you are going to do a report on something, it is imperative that all facts in the report are correct, so as not to mislead the public. If you don't know how to pronounce a word, it's better that you refrain from using that word.

How come you guys don't care about all the other million children who died today? What makes this one so special? Does he get more sympathy for being ******** than one would get for being out of food? I'm legit curious. Does "having a heart" require the absence of a brain?

of course we care! who says we dont?
were just talking about this specific death.
that does NOT mean that we care about ONLY this one

What sammy p said.

The story/topic of discussion is this one child. What gave you the idea that we don't care about thousands and millions in the world? This topic wasn't about them is all. Discussing one child doesn't trivialize the plight of the rest of the world, just like the situation in the rest of the world doesn't trivialize the death of one.

Also,
Nobody expects the reporters to know everything (nice strawman, btw,) but if you are going to do a report on something, it is imperative that all facts in the report are correct, so as not to mislead the public. What? Mispronouncing "Naruto" is not equivalent to misleading the public or related to fact-checking. I'm pretty sure the public is not going to to be affected by thinking that the show is about "sand ninjas" either. To them, it's just some Japanese cartoon that they'll forget about within a couple days.

Now, claiming that Obama's birth location is ambiguous despite proof having been presented to the contrary, that is an error in fact checking that can mislead the public.

@104857979 whatever your name is:

Lol, nice use of propaganda. When we talk about one child's death, we don't suddenly trivialize the deaths of 100K other kids. Plus, the media could care less about anime, so they don't research the facts, sorta like video games.

Also, here is the real life equivalent of what you just did: Walking into the president's funeral and saying: "You mispronounced the name of the disease he had! Oh, and why are you trivializing the deaths of like 9000 people today!"

I live in a place mostly surrounded by houses and THERE ARE NO INTERNET CAFES WHERE I LIVE! The only time I ever get to a ****ing computer is when I have to lie that I have homework and go to my parents office to goof off. And what do they say? Oh I say: I had to do a ****ty program on the computer and I just finished it. ANY ****ING QUESTIONS!

Ok I feel better now after drinking a coke and having some pizza. I think people could care less how the show is pronounced. For example you know that girl that I said drowned herself. I couldnt care less if they pronounced spongebob spangebub. I could capture the gist of it and how they pronounce it doesnt pertain to my life anyways. I mean I could feel sorry for her but I wont lived depressed because she died or I wont throw my tv out because they mispronounced the show. I hope this doesnt sound insensitive because its the truth

off topic: Ask a floridian: Wheres the nearest internet cafe? and they say lolwut? And the weather here is real ****ty if its not raining its suffocatingly hot here where its impossible to get out

Old story is old.
It may be an old story, but it doesn't mean it's not worth the discussion.

Anyways, I think this was a bad news story on part of the media. Extremely uninformed and just trying to get a meaty leg called a paycheck. If they have anyone to blame, they should blame Toonami for putting a show directed at teens on a time slot directed at young boys.

OH GOD 4Kids. Don't even get me started. They have no idea where they have been. While I have to partially thank them for poorly introducing me to some of my favorite series they were so idiotic to try turn more mature shows into kids shows. It's like making Family Guy into freaking Barney.

It's a generational thing and again, not at all surprising.

When the majority of America grew up, cartoons were for kids. There was no "anime" or mature cartoons.

Same reason many people see video games as just for kids. Obviously, as the new generation grows up (the generation that grew up with video games and anime and stuff), attitudes will change.
