My problem with Sirlin is that his argument is (as far as I can tell) that if you're playing to win then it's acceptable to do whatever it takes (short of actually cheating), and that you are a scrub if you don't. This only works if you are playing solely to win. Personally, I like to win, but I also like to feel like I should have won, not like I just happened to win because of some (possibly) cheap thing I did. For instance, if I wobbled someone for three stocks then it wouldn't feel to me like a deserved to win. Sirlin's argument is begging the question.http://www.sirlin.net/ptw
reading most of this will make you a better player, probably. have fun! most of it is applicable to us, and many many issues we face are present. i based my attitude on the game from articles i read from this guy about 4 years ago, just noticed that his entire book was readable online, so i'd figure i'd share it with you doods!
Yeah, I talk to him alot now, hes really cool but those were Event 52 friendlies, I'm sure he would come every weekend if he could, but he actually lives like 3-4 hours away, I really wish he wa sin KC, all the matches I played with him were epic, I think I forgot to tell all you about the set I had with him in pools... it was the most ridiculous set ever XDpyroty, after watching your friendlies with bhlmro... we need to convince that guy to come to the barrios and play with us, hes pretty solid lookin. need more melee players...
If you can trash talk us all you want and we're not allowed to have a problem with it, why the hell should you have a problem with us talking about PLAYING Brawl?Mature? This is a forum. There is no level of maturity when you're typing on a freaking keyboard. We'll trash talk Brawl and Brawl players all we want to. It's not our fault they're getting so overly sensitive that no one likes their stupid game.
I'll go on ahead an say this, but I never had posted in the KC/Lawrence thread, it was stealth's idea that I make the 6000th post in a HEAVILY melee oriented thread "brawl>melee". It was purely for lulz, but after the incredibly negative response from it I might have gone over with a poke here and there. Some posts were legit, some were to invoke the same response, the last was just plain silly; however, some of you need a chill. As I said before, I enjoy all the smash games. I still play smash64 and I occasionally pick up melee. Ask jace, I fail hard at the game compared to you all, but I still play it because it's a good game. I still enjoy it even though I continually get thrashed.*shrug* everyone calm down. the only person thats come in here with the intent to rile up everyone was fino and he did a good job, apparently. direct your complaints at him.
lol noobAnd any other video game is different.. how? Yet, here we are, all playing video games.. hmm..
We could spend a lot of time and energy traveling to/organizing major brawl tournaments and experience the full depth of that game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNa11bpyN6s, or we could do the same with melee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wm26ec_90Us). When faced with these options, you're "disappointment" does nothing to sway us towards brawl. It would be like opting to spend my time and money to go see 10,000 b.c. instead of 300. we're not trying to "prove" that brawl is garbage (competitively, there's enough proof as it is); we're just trying to convince you not to go down with the sinking ship we believe it to be. That said, we're not spamming your thread with brawl sucks posts or stopping you in any way from running tournaments under your own steam. If brawl somehow turns out to be a solid game, then a solid community will form around it in the future without our help. If not, you can always come to the barrio and learn melee. We've helped newcomers for years--even though they often get a little discouraged when they realize the full depth of the game. Come and learn melee for a few months, and you'll see why the choice is easy for us.You guys say that the game is a joke to where you won't travel out for it, yet look at the JCCC tournaments. Skill outweighs the noobish tactics that many brawlers use. To me, you have a gold mine of brawlers, fresh to the tournaments scene, just waiting to hand you their money. I jump at the opportunity. Maybe it's principle of trying to prove that 'brawl is garbage' I don't know, but I was thoroughly disappointed at the melee community from this.

Wow, this was this post rivals the stupidity of 'steak' on the sonic forums.
My disappointment has nothing to do with brawl vs. melee, more the melee community and it's attitude / reaction (looks at last 7 pages). linkwoot for example wants to kill/****/burn my house down... or something like that? I'm not even sure...When faced with these options, you're "disappointment" does nothing to sway us towards brawl.
I agree with your analogy however, because seeing 10,000 BC would be as big of a disappointment as paying $25 for a melee tournament I knew would lose and go to mew2king while 300 would be comparable to paying (for arguments sake the same amount of money) and placing in money or even winning. 300 of course was a way better movie. It would be like opting to spend my time and money to go see 10,000 b.c. instead of 300.
I ask, if brawl is proven to be garbage competitively... why are more and more people turning up to more and more tournaments for brawl?we're not trying to "prove" that brawl is garbage (competitively, there's enough proof as it is)
On to your call, I would love to learn the full depth of melee; however, I think enough people want to chop my head after the pokes I've made . If you guys would really be up to 'help'/teach me learn the depth of the game, I'd be willing to learn it. Tutorial vids on youtube can only show so much, and isn't near comparable to irl teachings and practice. I asked jace at the JCCC meetings, but he didn't want to spend his time teaching me the depth of melee... more just serving me **** lol. I'll head the challenge, and maybe eventually get close to almost getting you down to your last stock XDIf not, you can always come to the barrio and learn melee. We've helped newcomers for years--even though they often get a little discouraged when they realize the full depth of the game. Come and learn melee for a few months, and you'll see why the choice is easy for us.
zomg rly? ur so smart, i dn't no.And Fino... You should probably change your signature. Ken is a MELEE player bro.
