While most of the newcomers are some great additions to the roster, the only one I would genuinely be excited to see is K. Rool. Or any villain at this point, with the way the reveals are trending. Nintendo has an excellent rogue's gallery, and to not draw from it in this installment would be a shame.

How would K. Rool even work as a stage boss? You have guys like the Yellow Devil and presumably Ridley in there as stage hazards that explode when defeated as an incentive to defeat them. Does K. Rool just drop dead as bananas rain down or something? Blegh, just thinking about something so forced makes me want to go shower. K. Rool would be just as bad of a Smash boss as Ridley.
You knock him out and the game's credits start playing, and the words cause damage. :p

As someone who has been somewhat a quiet supporter for King K. Rool (alongside Shulk and any new Zelda rep for my personal top 3, and Mewtwo), I had figured that now would be a good of time as any to say that we still have reason for optimism. As all supporters here are well aware, the Kritters are making an appearance in the 3DS's "Smash Run" feature. The very moment I had layed my eyes upon this during the direct, I could not help but say aloud "Oh! Perhaps this a hint towards a playable K. Rool!" While the naysayers may say that it could probably lead towards him being something akin to a boss character (see Ridley), I've yet to lose my stance on what makes K. Rool applicable far outweighs that of which he isn't. We've solidified our reasons, though to us it may just seem as if they couldn't be more obvious to begin with. However, Sakurai is the end result. . . The determining factor, if you will, but I've still the hope and optimism of seeing the Kremling King as a playable character come the final revealed roster (we've only a few months left to know for certain, being the 3DS iteration will have released in the coming time). With that, I'd like to thank the fellow supporters of who had read this for doing just that; Supporting. Long live the King!

I have to admit, after Ridley's regrettable exclusion, I'm wondering if we'll see more villains. Ridley is really prolific, and seeing him passed over does nothing for my hopes for characters like Black Shadow, Mewtwo, or K. Rool.

I'm actually a little worried that far too many newcomers will be "unique" and "unexpected" additions that no one asked for, but we have to love anyway, because you're obviously an entitled brat if you don't. But you can tear the gameplay and stages to pieces, that's fine.

No, I'm not bitter/worried about rumors flying around.

If it helps at all, Brawl had six Pokemon characters and we currently have only four spots filled.

I see King K. Rool having a shot, but he would have to fight Dixie Kong for that spot.

I think it would be cool if they had certain boss fights for levels and if you beat that boss(king k rool, ridley, mewtwo) then a "warning challenger approaching" screen came up and then the got to fight the playable version of the character

I have the same worry. Beyond Mega Man and, to a lesser extent, Little Mac, all the newcomers are characters that are, as you said, unexpected or at least not a ton of people necessarily wanting them. Not that having left field choices is bad, but the vibe Sakurai seems to be giving off is uniqueness and relative obscurity over popularity.

If that ultimately means we get characters like WFT, Rosalina, and Greninja, but not selections from the top of the majority's lists like Shulk, K. Rool, or Mewtwo, then it'd be extremely disappointing.

I wouldn't be worried just yet about the roster having no popular characters. Sakurai dropped plenty of big hints for popular newcomers in the direct, I imagine we'll get a few at E3 and they'll all be huge hype builders. If we get Chorus Men and other random wacky characters at E3, that is the time to panic. For now the Kremlings and other clues point to K. Rool as well as others on the same highly-wanted echelon.

I feel the same way as well. Judging from what we've seen so far, this seems to be the actual case. Best case scenario at this point may be that the more obscure and "unique" choices are just being shown off first in order to advertise other games and promote the flashier new movesets. More "mundane" and requested characters like K. Rool might just end up being secret characters or revealed close to release, since they're not as marketable.

Took the words out of my mouth. Glad to know I won't be the only one infuriated if that indeed ends up the case.

@ Creo Creo To be perfectly honest, I wasn't immediately thrilled upon seeing the Kremlings. My first thought was..."F*CK, this is the new adventure mode, and these Kritters mean that K. Rool's going to be a boss in it." After the mode's explanation began, however, so did my jubilation. Then, it became something along the lines of...

King K Rool in Smash? Eh, I kinda doubt, but it's possible. I'll support, but I'd prefer Dixie Kong. No offense.
Offense taken.

This is exactly what I was talking about. People are scurrying out of their backwater support threads for that one character that was in that one game that one time who totally should be in Smash, threads for TWO Sonic characters to be in Smash, and other (for lack of better words) stupid crap like that. Then Kremlings are shown and it's like everyone who doubted Noah is running to the ark once **** starts getting real.

Watch something like this happen if Ridley is announced to be playable and droves of people come back to him saying, "I've supported him all along" or some BS like that.

I'm generally an unpleasant person anyway, but something about bandwagoners just really brings out the worst in me.

Im think you guys wont see K. Rool till the game is released at the end of summer, I foresee him to be an unlockable character.
This, too, is possible. There's a chance he gets shown at E3, but people oughtn't be worried if he's not there. We're getting 2, maybe 3 newcomers there, and, based on the last E3, not all of them are going to be fan favorites.

If k Rool was coming to e3 I personally think he would have been built up already (I think Ridley will be the star if e3) I honestly think mewtwo and king k Rool will b unblockables not announced till the game is out.

I would expect a fan favorite(Ridley or K.Rool) as well as one surprise. I think a retro rep will not be shown at E3.
(Also I see E3 as a good opportunity to confirm many veterans, just as Sakurai did with the Smash Direct already)

For a 3rd newcomer, I have no idea. I think this would be up to Sakurai. At E3 2013, he has shown Mega Man as the fan favorite, the Villager as a character with a fanbase around him(still not the biggest one to be honest) and Wii Fit Trainer as wtf surprise.

Of course it would be absolutely awesome if Sakurai were to confirm both, Ridley and K.Rool, but to be honest, I don't expect both at E3 2014. It would make more sense to keep one of them for closer to the release. (maybe about a month before the release of the 3DS version or 2 weeks before the release)

There is also one thing I'm wondering. I would be surprised if the 3DS version would feature the newcomer trailer. That said, we may know the roster at the release of the 3DS version(if Sakurai weren't to keep some characters out and add later on for the release of the WiiU version with a free DLC perhaps), but still the awesome newcomer trailer could be shown even after the release of the 3DS version in order to create some hype.

So maybe the newcomer trailers will only be seen on the WiiU version. would at least make sense to me.

Does it matter newcomer trailers may only be on the WiiU version? Well it could matter, even for K.Rool. As he's a newcomer able to create more hype, it would even make sense to keep K.Rool or Ridley hidden for the WiiU release and throw an awesome trailer shortly before the release of the WiiU version, right?

Well, just some thoughts because it could be important for the question "When will we see K.Rools newcomer trailer?"

With Ridley, he will be announced at E3 since he has been hugely teased while King K. Rool has just been hinted in the latest direct which is fantastic news but like some others have said, I don't think he will be announced at E3 and might be a secret unlock.

Either way I hope both Ridley and King K Rool will be playable, we need more classic villains like them.

If K. Rool does indeed end up as a boss, he'll most likely have his attack pattern from DKC1 (Crown, cannonballs, charging, jumps etc.) and his defeat could cause the kredits to appear, and possibly carry people off the screen. Here's hoping that's not the case.

You know, I can't think of a single reptilian Kirby boss. It's just another sign of how unique K. Rool is for this game, being the sole remaining heavyweight and villain who has any good chance to be a newcomer. If there isn't one of those I'd be very surprised as it's the most obvious archetype to include. I also hardly think Bowser and Dedede cover everything in the archetype. That is one of the only remaining (stupid) arguments Sakurai could level against K. Rool - "why include a comical, heavyweight villain when the perfect Dedede did everything?" It is as bad as the "Bowser clone" "argument," though, so not worried.

I know this was some time ago, but I just want to discuss the supposed "issue" with K. Rool ugliness and more about how it doesn't really make any sense.

ALL of the major DK characters are ugly. DK is ugly, Diddy is ugly, K. Rool is ugly, Cranky is ugly and Dixie too (though she is more Ugly Cute). All of these characters are animals, so it makes perfect sense for them to be ugly.

Wait, did someone seriously try to argue that K. Rool can't get in because he's too ugly? And I though the relevance argument was idiotic.

As a Plasm Wraith supporter, I take offense to that. :p

However, I do agree. Bandwagons aren't fun. They aren't real supporters, they just want to be cool or whatever it is. Although I would feel kinda bad for people who just joined and wanted to express their love for our Kremling King, but I doubt that'll happen a lot.

(Can't wait for those Plasm Wraith bandwagoners though. :awesome:)

@ Welshy91 Welshy91 Your quote seems to be broken, so I'll just tag ya.

You didn't really offend me lol. Plasm Wraith will probably never happen, but I still cling to it because I think it would be cool. Looks like you'll need to offend somebody else now.

@ Yomi's Biggest Fan Yomi's Biggest Fan You think so? All I remember of the fight is that it aped DragonBall Z, Goriath going super saiyan and shooting a kamehameha wave. I can't remember anything resembling K. Rool, sorry. I haven't played RtDL since I finished it years ago.

I'll describe it as this: we would walk towards the wall to shoot at foed with the Blunderbuss (sometimes while clinging to the walls) and stomp on the bridges to break them. Part 2 would involve him shooting a storm of cannonballs towards the ground. So basically all 3 DKC fights in one frenzied fight. Either way, I wouldn't want him as a boss.

I can see this going bad.

Let's be careful to not get into some unnecessary arguments here. I'd rather avoid a ton of drama if possible, we already have more than enough of that.
Don't worry; I usually try to let someone have the last word when I know a conversation's starting to go that direction.

Unlike Dyna Ridley, at least that would still be true to the character. I'm not really knowledgeable enough on Kirby series bosses though to know what Sakurai would make K. Rool a blatant knockoff of if he were to do so, which is probably a good sign.

I'm sure this has probably already been said but I do feel the Kritters raised the chances of K.Rool. Too much hype! :chuckle: (Although I'm not going to say anythings confirmed at this point so I don't get screwed over if he is not in.)
