Ridley is practically disconfirmed. Same goes for Squirtle and Ivysaur, and with Greninja in as well, I'm betting it's either Mewtwo or Jiggs at this point.

Newcomer-wise: The best part of the Direct is that the Kremlings are back as enemies. K. Rool is almost certainly in at this point. In term of chance, I think he's currently the most likely newcomer, along with Palutena.

But seeing what happened to Ridley and all, I'd rather NOT see a Gangplank Galleon stage at this point...

Well, congratulations. I think the Kritters are, obviously, a great sign for K. Rool. With their inclusion in the game, it means Sakurai is looking at those Donkey Kong games that K. Rool appeared in. The recency argument just took a major blow. At this point, I think that K. Rool's positives far outshine his negatives.

...I can't exactly feel happy about this right now though...

It's a bit suspicious... especially when the 3DS version has Jungle Japes.
All of these little things help King K. Rool in his favor. I think that it's possible that we will see him at E3.

One small obvious tidbit from the direct is that K. Rool will not be using the Kremlings as minions.

Not that I thought he would have or needs them, but that was one option people thought was possible. Even Dedede lost the Waddle Dees as walkabout minions, it seems like Sakurai is tightening up the gameplay in general to be less campy.

One detail of intrigue...he didn't mention the Kritters by name in his little role call of the enemies present, yet they were clearly featured there as one of the first two enemies seen for the mode.

How excited I was to see them! This shows that the Kremlings have not only been remembered, but have also been lingering in Sakurai's head.

On a slightly more off-topic note though, did anyone else notice Diddy's art in some instances was Brawl's? I also noticed that they didn't do a blurb about him and the changes in action like the other veterans... Could this mean that Dixie could still be hiding in the dark to one day tag with Diddy?

In terms of King K. Rool himself, I think that, if he gets in, E3 is going to be where we see him if you ask me.
