On the topic of K. Rool…
I fought the final boss in Tropical Freeze and he does so many things that he does. His horn might as well be a Blunderbuss, his charge attack reminds me of K. Rool's, and one of his attacks remind me of the raining Kannonballs. (Oddly enough, the charge attack also reminds me of Shake King's charge attack in Wario Land: Shake It!)

I ask this question again: If the final boss is basically King K. Rool, then why didn't they make the main villain King K. Rool?

You fellows are a model example of a fanbase. Dedicated, confident, accepting, and not completely bat**** insane. Being someone who isn't much of a Dong Country fan, I really had no interest in this character (or any DK character, for that matter) when I joined the forum a few months ago. However, being exposed to you guys (and your kinship with the Ridley supporters), I've come to want this character just as much as Ridley.

-sniff- And that girth. It's just so damn beautiful. To have the glorious girth of both K. Rool and Wario in the same game may bring Smash to a yet-unprecedented level of girth.

The only "clues" - if even that - that exist for possible Newcomers could be the very oblique references to Ridley made in conjunction with the Pyrosphere stage. Other than that, though, I don't think any other Newcomer candidates have been alluded to in any substantial way via Sakurai's comments.

A second potential venue is the Home Stage pattern hypothesis. The Galaxy stage was alluded to a few months before Rosalina's reveal. We got Pyrosphere, Palutena's Temple, and Arena Ferox, which could allude to Ridley, Palutena, and an FE Newcomer being playable. Though there is of course nothing really substantiating this, since we only have Rosalina y which to base this trend.

K Rool has nothing like the above going for him at the moment, alas. I expect that his will be a surprise, bombastic reveal (most likely at E3).

A solid summary.

To encapsulate this all even more succinctly, K Rool's merits essentially revolve around:

-His A-tier global popularity and fan demand/request
-His character's high uniqueness potential (an apparent important consideration for Newcomers this time around)
-His worthiness on account of his importance to the DK franchise (if not the modern era, then most certainly in the past)

It would be in Sakurai's best interest to include highly-requested characters; this would generate greater interest in the game, which would in turn maximize profitability and reception. Mega Man and Little Mac in particular can be classified as such characters, and adding a few more characters of that popularity/demand heavy-hitter caliber would be a wise move - and K Rool is a prime candidate in that regard.

Yeah, I hear ya; there been some that used like 'too ugly' against Ridley too, even before there was the Other M incarnation. (and I knew there was gonna be a Sephiroth joke in regards to what you and Xenoblaze said!)

Can somebody convince me that I should add K Rool to my roster?
So far I'm not convinced....

Not trying to convince you, but here are some small bullets to consider:

• K. Rool is one of the most requested characters in the world, including North America, Europe, and Japan. Unlike Ridley, K. Rool doesn't seem to have much a regional bias.
• He is unmistakably the main antagonist to Donkey Kong. Not only did he appear as the main villain in the entire Donkey Kong Country Trilogy (which are considered a classic by both fans and game critics a like) but has overall appeared in almost every Donkey Kong Country games except Returns and Tropical Freeze.
• He's only second to Bowser in most recurring Mario franchise villains.
• His high popularity despite his last appearance being in a Mario spin-off in 2008. Sluggers, mind you.
• His high moveset potential. Every game he takes on a different alias and with a slew on new weapons and tricks. Check the first page for a better illustration

There's definitely more, which you can probably find on the first page, but here's some just in case.

Rool and Dixie fans are, but I guess to be fair, users in both threads here have said something negative about one of them in favor of the other. Kinda makes it even funnier how K. Rool and Ridley supporters are generally more mutual or whatever you call it.

Ridley and K. Rool supporters relationship always fascinated me. From what I've seen on this site, it's almost unanimous: if you support K. Rool, you most likely support Ridley, and vice-versa. Very interesting, I wonder why this is the case.

At the same time, K. Rool and Dixie supporters non-intimacy saddens me, but is unavoidable: while DK is a popular enough franchise to get 4 reps, only one new rep will be probably be added. Dixie is by far my favorite Kong, but even then I still don't believe she tops the King, who's by far more important to the Donkey Kong franchise as a whole. However it is undeniable that Dixie does have a high chance, especially now with her revival in Tropical Freeze.

Getting both Dixie and K. Rool would just be perfect for everybody, but unfortunately, we don't live in an ideal world.

It really depends where you look. It's bizarre just how mean-spirited some can be about it all. I've seen posts on GameFAQs that'll make ya cry... (but then I guess that's what I get for looking at GameFAQs for serious discussion...)

Now that you mention stages I find it really weird that we haven't seen a single (clear) DK stage yet... unless I'm mistaken.

They're not graphic, per se, just bizarre depictions of him glancing seductively at the camera while extending an overly-large tongue downward toward his golden chest. And I'd rather not search for and dig up all of them, since there are a decent number, but should you ever search for K. Rool images on DeviantArt, expect at least a handful to turn up, scattered amongst the regular images.

Yeah, I was being sarcastic with that remark about them "really liking" K. Rool. And I said that they were more obsessive, not that they truly liked him more. Though if Kupa's OP is anything to go by, it's very possible that even that's not the case.
