Sales don't determined if a character should be in Smash or not. If that was the case, most of the roster would be filled with Mario and Pokemon characters. I do agree with the Inklings though. You know, this whole poll has me thinking........if not K Rool...then who else? No I mean seriously, who else is a top contender that could be worthy enough?
Isaac: First thought, and perhaps he will get in, but his series seems in limbo. Also I understand most of his popularity is in the west only.
Wonder Red: Game sold poorly, Sakurai likes him so its possible.
Waddle Dee: Sakurai created him and doesn't like him. Sure he has a spear, but don't really see any reason to include mildly popular filler character
Inklings: Saved for next game
Banjo: Strong support, but does nintendo want to give Microsoft money?
Wolf: Doesn't need ballot to get in.
Krystal: Too much competition with Wolf.
Snake: Konami hates video games
Shantae/ Shovel Knight: Too insignificant, as 3rd party guests are all gaming icons, and these two are nowhere near that.
Rayman: Just maybe...I have a feeling he will be in Smash sooner or later.
As far as I see across the smash communities, the top contenders are K Rool/Isaac/Banjo. So if K Rool doesn't make the cut, would that just leave Isaac with the best shot?
Yes, but popularity doesn't make Banjo a top contender, being owned by a direct competitor is a big obstacle. ICs are popular (in Japan, at least) as well, but they can't be considered top contenders either, due to having a massive obstacle against them.I've been following polls and conducting my own, and K Rool and Banjo are consistently in the top. For example, heres a poll with 13000 votes
As far as Waddle/Bandana Dee goes, I haven't seen a single poll where he's even in the top 10. His fans are vocal, but there just are not numbers out there.
Heres a tally of popularity among several of the major smash communities

Currently K Rool is still a front runner, however, Banjo seems to have lost momentum.
Sales do relate to the future of the series though. Sakurai said he doesn't want to add to series without a future. Although you could reverse the statement and say that adding Wonder Red could save the games future, and maybe see a deserved sequel.Sales don't determined if a character should be in Smash or not. Yay, my post is included!Updated with the new ones at the top.
UNITY FOR K. ROOL:
1. I love the original, but Kaptain K. Rool you can't top.So.........More questions:
1.What is your favorite boss fight of K.Rool?
2.What is your favorite level of DKC, DKC2 and DKC3 respectively? (feel free to mention DKCR and DKCTF as well)
3.What made you support K.Rool?
4.How do you reacted to the Mii costume?
5.How likely did you thought K.Rool was back when the Gematsu Leak was still alive?
6.Do you have any fond memories of K.Rool as a character?
7.What is your favorite Ice Cream Flavor? (if you have any)
Since when did Greninja have an ability to repeatedly smash down into an enemy, bounce into the air, and smash down on the enemy again?
What TheGalaxyKnight said.He still does in the form of DAir. Hitting his opponent or their shield.
Where is Shantae?I've been following polls and conducting my own, and K Rool and Banjo are consistently in the top. For example, heres a poll with 13000 votes

I agree, I don't see Wonder Red (in MY opinion) coming in Smash 4, maybe Smash 5.Sales do relate to the future of the series though. Sakurai said he doesn't want to add to series without a future. Although you could reverse the statement and say that adding Wonder Red could save the games future, and maybe see a deserved sequel.
Well first you can go with Sakurai bias. He crams all his babies into everything. "Bandana" Dee didn't even get a trophy in the game. And for that, Bandana Dee's officially referred to as Waddle Dee in recent Kirby Games. Waddle Dees have been the butt of jokes by Sakurai, and it seems that in his mind, he sees no difference between a generic Waddle Dee and one with a spear. How do you know that Sakurai doesn't like Waddle Dee? (and that was for the "filler character" part, I accidentally bolded more than I intended. I know that Dee's popularity in polls varies).
She's in second place on the straw poll, with 135 votes (11% of all the votes in the straw poll).Where is Shantae?
Yes, I agree with the Sakurai bias thing, there isn't a lot of content from the newer games, although not having a trophy doesn't necessarily mean anything, Roy didn't have one until he was added as DLC and I don't think that Isaac has one either. The last thing is just an assumption, it could be or not to be true. (I haven't played Rainbow Curse, but I think I've seen someone to mention that some new character in it (Elline?) creates the two other Waddle Dees in the beginning of the game).Well first you can go with Sakurai bias. The filler part is based on the fact that Waddle Dee was promoted to playable in his games, because there was no one else to fill that role. Much like the two Toads in NSMB. Sure Waddle Dee has bit more presence in Rainbow Curse, but this time theres three of them, which starts to delude that fact that hes a unique character, and still just a filler character.
Keep in mind this is strictly my opinion..however what is not is the fact that based on strict numbers, Bandana Dee is not holding up compared to the other top contenders.
I hope that, if K. Rool isn't going to be DLC, he confirms it sooner rather than later. I don't want to be tormented again, like between Ridley's tease and confirmation as a boss.I'm sorry I keep mentioning this, but am I the only one who finds it weird that Sakurai STILL hasn't mentioned K. Rool in any way, shape, or form? Like, I know he left Ridley fans hanging for months, but this is the first time in a while I have seen Smash Bros. get such negative feedback (except maybe Tournament mode took precedence). It's been 3 weeks since the announcement and people are still making jokes about K. Rool / Mii costumes (in general).
This is still good news for Smash. Sakurai and Nintendo have gone out of their way to deconfirm characters like Ridley, Chrom and Waluigi in the past. Especially when its controversial. Following the Robin announcement, Nintendo was clear on social media that he wasn't getting in.I'm sorry I keep mentioning this, but am I the only one who finds it weird that Sakurai STILL hasn't mentioned K. Anyway, I feel like Bandanna Dee has a pretty good chance, actually. The one thing I can see Sakurai doing is saying that he couldn't get a good read on his personality (which, admittedly, I don't know if the character has much personality). It seems to me that, the way Sakurai makes characters isn't that he cares about faithfully making movesets, but rather faithfully re-creating their personality. I'm going to assume that this is what he meant when he said that quote. Bandanna Dee doesn't really have the luxury of having a big personality.
I don't know how I feel about this mindset. This is the same mindset that got rid of Ridley. I'm afraid that he'll find some convoluted way to apply this to King K. Rool. He has a defined personality, but if he says that he can't display it in the game, then he won't add the character. I think that, while Ganondorf's moveset doesn't represents the games, he still (kind of) comes off as a strong magic entity, which I feel like is the only thing that Sakurai cared about while making the character. Even if K. Rool gets in, this mindset may affect his moves (like, instead of a Blunderbuss, he has some other method of attacking to show how insane he is).
I'm thinking the only chance of him not being added is if hes being saved for the next Smash since Smash usually includes new characters from the last gen console, but the only notable character from the Wii U is the Inkling and they have to have some interesting characters for the next gameThis is still good news for Smash. Sakurai and Nintendo have gone out of their way to deconfirm characters like Ridley, Chrom and Waluigi in the past. Especially when its controversial. Following the Robin announcement, Nintendo was clear on social media that he wasn't getting in.
Similar reaction happened this time for K Rool, and Nintendo has been quiet. If K Rool was official out of consideration, Nintendo would have said it already. I have a feeling that K Rool is at least high up on their considered list for DLC at the moment.
The fact that Sakurai said personality is one of the biggest factors for characters bodes well for K Rool. He has the demand, and the moveset potential too. The only thing he doesn't have is relevancy, however this is different compared to characters from series that aren't getting new games. The DKC series is still being updated and literally all it takes for this factor to be removed is Retro adding K Rool in Arctic Heat.
They never 100% deconfirmed Ridley. Some fans were left confused and tried reaching out to Nintendo for a straight forward answer but received nothing. All that was stated was that "An enemy from Samus's past could appear any second now." Nintendo let this situation continue for over a year. This is still good news for Smash. DK and K Rool were the same hight in DK64. Size is literally the least concern K Rool has.Just to clarify, I wasn't saying that he doesn't have the personality. I think his personality is the best thing about the character (among other things). And I'm sure Sakurai will see that. The thing I am scared about is him casually saying "since DK's big in this game, King K. Rool would be too small." (basically a BS excuse like with Ridley).
However, the situation is kinda different, since they only showed the shadow that time, instead of fully show Ridley. Compared to our situation, it would be like showing just the crown or the foot and then the costume months later. Iirc, Sakurai's interview about Ridley came shortly after his confirmation as a stage boss. They never 100% deconfirmed Ridley. Some fans were left confused and tried reaching out to Nintendo for a straight forward answer but received nothing. All that was stated was that "An enemy from Samus's past could appear any second now." Nintendo let this situation continue for over a year.
In the DK64 ending, that is. In DK64's boss battle K. Rool is by far at his biggest. Then in spinoff games he's either the same height as DK, or just a tad bit taller. K. Rool is also shorter as Kaptain K. Rool compared to how he was as King K. Rool in DKC.DK and K Rool were the same hight in DK64. Size is literally the least concern K Rool has.
He's actually more similar to a taller Wario with an eventual tail because of his big girth and stubby legs. The problem with Ridley wasn't his size, it was rather his shape. With a scrawny body, long thin tail and large wings, he is tricky (but by no means impossible) to make. Just look at most of the older Brawl hacks. The new ones do a pretty good job though.
K. Rool has similar proprtions to Bowser and (to a lesser extent, Charizard), so he should have no difficulty fitting in.
1. Kaptain K. Rool, hands down.So.........More questions:

Well if sakurai has such a problem with K. Rool's size he should first try addressing the issue of DK and Diddy's size.I know that it wouldn't be an issue, but Ridley was the same size as Samus in the original Metroid. I'm worried if Sakurai himself finds it an issue. I think K. Rool is the perfect size and has no reason to not be in Smash Bros.
Don't worry. It's not a bad topic, is it?Before this turns into a Ridley and King K. Rool comparison conversation, I was making a random example, not actually concerned about his height. I agree with all of you guys and was saying that Sakurai would be making a bad decision by explaining his (hopefully unlikely) deconfirmation in such an asinine way.
The big difference her isn't so much Ridleys size, but his wingspan and tail. His torso can be small, but his wings make up most of his body.I know that it wouldn't be an issue, but Ridley was the same size as Samus in the original Metroid. I'm worried if Sakurai himself finds it an issue. I think K. Rool is the perfect size and has no reason to not be in Smash Bros.
EDIT: To summarize all of my ramblings, I'm saying that I still think K. Rool has a great chance but the only thing in the way is Sakurai's methodologies.
1. Probably the Kaptain one from DKC2. Perfect atmosphere, and I love the arsenal of projectiles he's using, including swirling, bouncing spiked cannonballs and status gases.So.........More questions:

Which is hilarious because he and Charizard have almost the same shapeThe problem with Ridley wasn't his size, it was rather his shape. With a scrawny body, long thin tail and large wings, he is tricky (but by no means impossible) to make. Just look at most of the older Brawl hacks. The new ones do a pretty good job though.

I knew it!Which is hilarious because he and Charizard have almost the same shape
-Long tail
-Long neck
-Unfolded wings that are rather big
-Can both fly
-Can both breathe fire
-Are both dragons
wing span is a little bigger but not so much so. I'm sorry I just can't Sakurai's logic, it borders on lunacy at points, However yes King K Rool, Dedede, and Bowser are more or less the same with different proportions.
You joke but honestly if you make Charizard thinner it would make its wings appear bigger and as for as neck length goes he and Ridley are the same. Tail length is almost the same however looking a Mewtwo and its terrifying reach, making the tail longer or a central damaging tool wouldn't be off model or unfaithful to the character. However I digress, back to K Rool.I knew it!
I remember when the 3DS game was leaking on twitch, the chat insisted beating the game with purple Charizard was a potential way to unlock Ridley.
