Yeah since June 1st you need one to cross the border.. well come :D you might end up using that passport often

It was only the first week of July that you did not need a passport. After that you must have either 1. A passport or 2. A passcard. I believe the pass card is half the cost of the passport and allows you to go through the boarder while driving. It will not let you get on a plane.
Yes you can smash all night if you wish to do so but it will be confined in the basement living room.
