Maybe they're onto something....

I didn't realize Halberd essentially allows for sharking as much as Delfino does, but listening to that commentary....

I like their ruleset.

Yeah sharking is pretty lame :glare:

It sounds like the future is bright, too bad it's all happening right before Smash 4.

I think future rule sets are going to look a lot like Socal's rule set or "The Socal 7"

It would actually suck to travel to a national and lose to sharking.

I think this is really good for brawl, might even be good for BC too.

I think it's good thing that players don't have to deal with sharking and getting lamed out by using their stage ban.

Obviously it would benefit me, and every non MK player. It was the same when RC/Brinstar were banned, that was definitely for the better.

If you want to put it like that I could say you just want the option of always being able to shark, which is dumb enough with all the advantages MK already has without the stage.

I know it's easy for me to just say this, but I would have felt like these stagelist changes don't benefit me overall when I still used Yoshi exclusively in tournament matches. It would not benefit every non-MK player. Sharking is strong, but it's perfectly beatable, just like fighting ICs without any safe places to land is strong, but perfectly beatable. This is, of course, assuming MKs don't just use it as a means to avoid confrontation, but isn't that what the scrooging rule is for?

It's fine that you think sharking is lame and you don't want to have to deal with it, but I feel the same way about ICs CGs...and yet, you don't see me pushing for ruleset changes to get rid of them. Which is really strange to me seeing how you're the one who wins everything here. >.>

When MK is rampant, it does benefit every non mk character.

Tell me how do I beat sharking, to me Mk is a position where I can't reach him poking at my shield and in order to get away I have to put myself in a position well above MK, a very bad place to be in. The only way around it is to not get hit, and even then the situation just resets where the process starts over. And then all MK has to do is stall until the transformation comes back, which isn't hard to do when your character has the best options for stalling in the game. It makes time outs that much more easy, and the only character with the tools to deal with it is MK.

It is a strategy with no counter, it's very different from ICs CGs, it's more comparable to scrooging/planking without any limit on it. I'm pushing for it because it is being realized for what it is every where else. There is a difference between the stage benefiting the character because of their attributes (which it does here as well) and by benefiting the character by giving them a very abusable strat with little to no counter. Similar to circle camping on temple, or norfair. It's not that it's "strong", there is no counter.

Here is an example of it being discussed while being utilized at top level.

I realize pursuing this will only lead to no where. Realistically I'm not going to change anyone's mind, and continuing won't go anywhere good. I knew it was dangerous ground to tread on but thought it might have been worth it if my views were shared. When I saw this reflected in other regions I got my hopes up. I'll just respectfully disagree at this point. There's a lot if things in this game that aren't pretty, and I really am just a scrub for not using them myself.

Play to win.

By that definition temple should still be legal.

Things are banned/removed to increase skill gap, whether that be randomness or stuff like running around on temple.

Banning stages aren't quite comparable because they aren't surgical changes to the game.

EDIT: Oh I actually read this as just wanting to ban sharking.

K to actually comment on this sharking thing. It's not too OP. I mean it is vs characters like ICs, but vs characters like pikachu, gaw, fox, falco, and wario it doesn't really matter. The only good way for MK to stall on other transformations vs these characters is to plank a bunch, and with the lgl and if you're good at forcing MK to grab the ledge more often, then time outs become unviable. To me it sounds like you don't think you should be switching characters for stage, which isn't a very good reason to ban anything.

The only character with the tools to beat sharking is MK himself. Those characters have the tools to try and run from MK, but there is no effective way to combat it. There is still no risk in doing it and the only difference is the reward is much greater on other characters. The only way to make MK to do anything is put yourself in an extremely disadvantageous position, you can't "force" him to do anything.

I linked to Esam vs Zero earlier, it was effective enough where Esam changed his ban to halberd later on when they played. I strongly disagree with many of those characters you listed, the spaceys in particular in which their games are forcing an approach with lasers and reading that. MK is at an unreachable position and there is no counter, except for doing the ditto.

Anyone in BC will tell you I switch characters during sets all the time according to the stage. What makes me so scrubby is not using the one character with the tools to combat sharking, which is MK.

Zero did not win that match cause of sharking... It had little to no consequence to the result of the match. Zero just loves that stage, and when you love a stage you are more confident on it and play a lot better. Esam banned it because he got bodied.

Yeah MK is the only one who can combat it, but who cares about combating it when all it does is do no damage and wastes ledge grabs? Not even MK should try to challenge an already sharking MK, because the advantage will always go to the already sharking MK. The characters I listed either don't care about being in the air vs MK, or have the tools to completely avoid all damage from sharking.

Except that it does do damage and it puts you at an extremely advantageous position.
Being above MK is bad, when he can poke your shield and finish it off with nado. He forces you into the air and then he's in a position to cover your landing for free. You won't always be able to avoid it, and that's the point. It's a no risk/reward strategy that can be rinsed and repeated. Also being able to shuttle loop cancel at anypoint makes it that much easier to not use up ledge grabs. It definitely affected Esam during that match.

But I'm glad you agree that only MK can combat it.

I agree with Dawson but then again my opinion means little in the competitive world :(

I agree wholeheartedly about the discussion of new rules and stage bans, IMO Dawson is the most qualified to propose new ideas and his bias should be pretty unquestioned at this point, winning is not something he has to change the rules to achieve. His character has been proven time and again by the way he graciously accepts slander and insults, as petty or facetious as they may be at times. I don't understand why we are still on the subject when the very obvious answer has been presented by our best player:
temple should still be legal.
