So basically our options right now are to either start monthlies at 5pm, start doing Sundays, or wait until November. If we choose the former, we can have a monthly on the 6th of October.

Thoughts? pretty sure i just 1HKOed all this hype

P.S. - There's nothing scheduled for Sept. 23 (Sunday)

I can't come on Sundays :(

It's fine though do what you guys need to do in order to keep this alive :)

(Should we book monthlies two months in advance?)

Honestly, at this point, I think going for Sunday the 23rd is probably our best bet. It's the only way we're going to get a tournament this month, and any other option would have us waiting close to a month for anything at all. I know it sucks for some people, but if we wait until October, it just means we're going to have a blank month of nothing before then anyway...

I have an assignment due that night too... -.-

the part about all of this that pisses me off the most is how they're treating us like second-rate customers. We had the 15th booked for a long time, and then all of a sudden we were informed that it was taken for another event, and instead of trying to make up for that by giving us scheduling priority they've bumped us all the way to November?! That's fairly ridiculous if you ask me, but I guess we have no better options than this venue, unless we do what the melee community used to do and try to get space at SFU. I never went to an event there but I assume the issues were space and difficulty getting full setups (TVs ect).

>implying i don't know school > smash

The next two Sundays after that are also booked.

And yes, I'm pretty mad right now. I was told there was only one Saturday available in October, and the Melee guys already booked it. =/

Lol I'm sorry I didn't mean to imply that :(

Problem with SFU is going to be storage of TVs. The Melee people also need our TVs of course this is not a priority.

Now what about that venue in Maple Ridge?

I can definitely help move TVs by playing courier again but lifting all of them is another story. Although... now that Landon's a class 5 he can help out too :)

Rant time

I ****ing hate it here. I can't even leave my house without every square inch of this entire town reeking of weed. Beside the university is a ****ing weed store. It has marijuana leaves all over the windows. The owner is a bald 400 pound biker guy with a ****ing leaf tattood to his ****ing head. Like.. Are you SERIOUS?
Some girl today asked me when the bus was gonna come by, and I said "Oh, it should only be a couple minutes" she said "Wow, **** that" and started smoking weed in the middle of everyone, and nobody said A THING. There were parents with their ****ing kids standing there. Some not even 5 years old, and they could all very well tell this girl was smoking weed in the middle of all of us.
I have never been so disgusted by any place in my entire life. Every store, street, house, person, noun, smells like weed.
OH NO NOT THE CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!

oh yeah the venue in maple ridge I was half joking about since I assumed nobody would want to transit to maple ridge... But my old highschool hosts gigantic LAN parties and could totally handle a smash tourney. The difficulty would be booking it but if people actually want me to I could look into it

shoutouts to kevin for being a boss looking for venues
I tried but Vancouver is so limited in potential venues... the one in New West seems promising and it's very transit friendly. Parking costs might be a bit hefty though.

http://www.expbar.ca/press/ <- doubtful since some kind of license is needed
http://tngames.ca/events.html <- not sure if enough room
http://www.coregames.com/index.htm <- not sure what this is
http://gamedeals.ca/ <- posted already but def one to look into
http://www.metropolis-comics.com/ <- hours limited from 12-8pm but they seem to have hosted other video game events
http://espot.me/ <- not sure if they have space for us

Of course despite all these potential venues, storage of TVs remain to be our largest problem should we decide to move venues.

Honestly though, Brawl is what generated all of Stronghold's Smash Brothers related revenues to begin with... of course if the place can survive without the extra couple hundred dollars a month then we don't have much of a voice in the matter. I'm not sure how Stronghold has managed to sustain their business over a card game...

Jake is definitely dropping Yoshi
My recommendation to you guys:

Find people who are able to store TV's. Then have people driving pick up TV's on route to venue.

This is how Victoria does it (well, now me and my roommate, both who drive, store the TV's at our place). But yeah, if you do it that way, no more storage problems.

Of all the locations that have been mentioned so far, my recommendation for that is SFU. I've been to three tournaments there. The room they used is more than big enough for us, not to mention several other rooms would also work.

Anyways, that's my thoughts.

Also, no matter how mad you are, don't eliminate our current venue as an option. Even if we go elsewhere, always keep them as an option. If our future venue (assuming a change) doesn't work, we need some place to fall back on, and our current venue isn't bad.

It's not a bad venue. They can't keep pushing us aside though.

I don't think anybody can/wants to store the TVs too.

....we may have enough room at our place.

Venue fee would be the same (to deal with setup and roommates and stuff) but honestly, our basement is HUGE and we also have a supply shed for TVs. Buuuuut it wouldn't be a permanent solution of course.

That said, we could get something going on this month potentially, if people were willing. We already have 3-4 TVs. Nope, I have 5 in my possesion. And 3 wiis.

From what I've read stronghold sounds like a really unprofessional business run by a bunch of elitist card game nerds. If they're gonna treat you guys like **** leave them as soon as you find a different venue, they're not worth your time.

EDIT: Can someone link me BCs P:M ruleset?

+1 for sfu

Rob did the tournament happen in the rotunda? Because as far as my experiences there go that's like the only place that lacks an unprotected wifi network lol

I'm still at my Payroll class but is 6pm okay for tomorrow Jake/Mike at Aroma?

Another possibility is to rent a storage space and store the TVs there? I'd pay for it and you guys can reimburse me using the singles pot or something? Bad idea but it's an option...
