Im then wondering how the **** i almost took down holy missing all my cgs at bisb in a 7-3 matchups by ics boards standards. I mean, your telling me that i almost beat someone who got 13th at apex in a 7-3 matchup with a character where i cant use their defining trait?
.
I never post. I live in Argentina. Tourneys are extremely rare here, so I have almost no personal experience or anything but IC's videos to back up my personal opinions. I registered only a few months ago, even though I'm here almost since Brawl came out.
I always read your posts swordgard, I do not often agree with you 100%, but that's OK, cause as I said earlier, I'm no one here to say anything comparing me with top players.
However, this time I really feel like posting because I'm certain that you are wrong. First of all, Falco is not that high in the tier list nor he is overrated most due to his chaingrab. Sure, his cg really helps, but also his playstyle matches perfectly with the defensive way brawl is supposed to be played (this is just my opinion). He has really really REALLY great moves (not an opinion). His jab is one of the little things in brawl that puts you in an andvantage. I could talk about his laser, ftilt, shine, nair, etc
But the reason I wanted to post, is to say something that I supposed that meep, lain or hylian were going to say but they didn't (or at least I missed it)
You didn't "almost beat" holy without the chaingrab. It's not *just* the fact of ACTUALLY SCORING a chaingrab that makes the IC's great. It's the fact of *what you force your enemy to do* in order to escape your chaingrab chance.
When I play a tourney, and I find myself vs another ICs and I'm either falco or single popo, I have a fear that I do not have vs other character, I FEAR THEIR SHIELD. I don't know how to explain my point tecnically, but it seems that whenever the ICs shield, it's like they are "breaking" the rock-paper-scisors-lizard-spock of this game (I mean the grab, shield, attack, sidestep and do nothing thing) because of two things: first of all, they are 2 of them, so you can be punished if you dont react fast or do a throw that leaves an opening for the other IC to use, eg. if you are pikachu and grab fast and do a really quick bthrow then you are doing it right (sry lain for using anther's example) And second, because if you miss and they grab you first, YOU ARE DEAD (in theory).
This is were, In my opinion, 70% of the Ice climber's potential comes from. Not just DOING the cg, but the fact of HAVING IT, therefore making your opponent discard lots of possible actions due to the not necessarily high chance of getting grabbed.
