My point exactly. It won't affect tourney play. And if it does happen you can just punch your buddy in his ****.You're're playing in a casual game with friends. Who the hell cares? You're playing to have fun aren't you?.
It's not the end of the world if it can't be turned off, anyway there is more casual players then tourney players so why should the creater focus on the tourney side.I'm getting tired of hearing people say "Oh, it doesn't matter. If they're doing that bad, the Final Smash won't matter!"
Oh YES it will!
Sure, there are going to be times where it doesn't kill your chances at beating someone... you could be fighting a n00b in friendlies, they get it, they get maybe a stock off of you or something, but you still win. I can definitely agree that..
...but what about tournaments? Say two people of equal skill are playing each other and one of them manages to get two AMAZING combos completely obliterating two of his opponent's stocks. What happens then? The opponent can come back with a final smash, and do the exact same thing to his oppnent, perhaps being even more deadly than his oppoenent just was. I personally don't want to play in a match with money on the line where the table can be easily turned after I had just gotten off to a good start or something.
This may be towards the balancing factor in the game, but it's still not a good idea, in my opinion. I'm very hopeful that this can be turned off.
Even with such a small group of tourny players, Sakurai knows that the competitive scene is important to the game. It's not the end of the world if it can't be turned off, anyway there is more casual players then tourney players so why should the creater focus on the tourney side.
Oh NO it won't!I'm getting tired of hearing people say "Oh, it doesn't matter. If they're doing that bad, the Final Smash won't matter!"

Regardless as to just how many deaths it takes, it still can happen, and it still can be a way to turn around a match.Oh NO it won't!

Yes, Sakurai is not dumb. He did this to appeal to the masses at the demo, as pretty much everybody sucked there (except for the repersentitives from SWF). He knows people who love playing Melee, and that he said it would appeal to the "hardcore" gamer, so mark my words, it WILL BE ABLE TO TURN OFF, if it is even in the final game. This could of been just for the demo only, If not then I think this can be turned off in the game on and offline. Anygame that features a handicap option is always able to be turned on or off.
Not to mention it's only a demoSakurai said:"More than anything, Smash Bros. is a competitive action game."
No, it's not. The spiked shell in Mario Kart could easily change the entire outcome of a match by specifically targetting the leading player and possibly rendering them last. This is not the case with a free smash ball. It takes a certain amount of skill to even slightly change the outcome of a match, depending on who gets the FS. And if a player manages to get -3, I don't think he can pull off the FS without 1) killing himself, 2) screwing over the FS (i.e. Fox getting the Landmaster and driving it off the stage, as what happened in one video), or 3) getting the smash ball beaten out of you as soon as you respawn. It is Mario Kart all over again.
I was thinking the same thing. You all sound like you can't dodge Final Smashes
