I never thought Sakurai would do something like this. It's actually quite funny to me. He is being noob-friendly.

Edit: LOL at Chill's post!

umm are you sure the fmash didnt just spawn where they were?
it HAS been stated that if the smash ball spawns on top of a player they automatically get it.

Even if they get one free final smash, big f***ing doo. I doubt it's that real people. If one final smash makes you lose in a match with a n00b, then you are obviously a n00b as well!

As far as i know smash balls have to be hit quite a bit to work but samus got it as soon as she stepped foot on the stage.

If it can't be turned off, it might be a bit annoying.

Buuuut me and my friend will enjoy this, because he's basically who I play with the most, and in melee.. let's just say the score was usually me-8 lives, him - 0.

sooo, if it ends up being like that again, it will be cool for him being rewarded for doing poorly, or visa versa if I fail.

either way I like it. :3

Hey guys! sakurai just announced a fith control option on the dojo!

My post from 5 days ago in the 2000 worst things that could happen thread::
#90

In attempt to make the game more accessible, Sakurai has simplified the game and removed every technique that required more than three seconds to understand. In fact, the final game is so simple that none of the four different controllers are needed. Each copy of Brawl now ships with a controller composed of only one giant "win" button. The first player to press this button after the match begins is the winner; however, since we all know that random = fun there is a 33% chance the the first person to press the button will actually lose.

And now we see who the true babies of SWF are.

It's obviously a handicap, and will be able to turn off.

Stop whining.

The middle of nowhere, behind that dust-cloud.
... You'll probably be able to turn it off, and/or control the time when you get the free Final Smash. Most likely, it was on [for the demo] for people new[er] to the scene of Smash Brothers. People have said this before, and I'm saying it again.

Since the Smash Ball seems to be in a set of options of its own... yeah-- you'd most likely be able to control this handicap, and/or even if the Smash Ball appears.

I call this handicap the Guilt Ratio.

And, I'm done now.

Don't you guys get it? You have to SUCK to get this handicap.

In the video, Samus gets the FS after 3 deaths. I will go ahead and assume that you must be 3 (or some other significant number) down from the other lowest opponent or whatever, 3 down compared to something, like how many KOs you have earned already. Anyway - Let's look at an example: The match starts, P1 kills himself 3 times and P2 now has 4 lives or 5 lives or whatever. P1 has 1 life left, but he has a final smash. He uses the final smash and kills P2. Now what? P1 has 1 life and P2 has 3 lives, both are final smash-less.

The "better" player will still win, 'cause the player with 1 life left would be better off just going for the kills in the first place instead of going for the handicap.

Morale of the story: The handicap hardly makes a difference.
If I'm missing something, please tell me.

How is rewarding? It's a single Final Smash in a match, big whoop. It won't help in any way, except maybe getting one free kill. ONE. WOW.

Meh. If you are getting 3 or 4 stocked it would be pretty ignorant to not realize that you suck. I guess I see what everyone is saying now, but I truly believe that it will hardly make a difference in gameplay.

I love it how some people take being displeased with the FS handicap as whining.

I for one could care less about it, as people have said before it doesn't make that much of a difference. All I'm saying is that I would hate for the game to have anything else that rewards a bad player. The FS handicap can stay, as long as it's the only thing to do this.

And I wouldn't go as far as to say that Sakurai is being stupid. He added this because he wanted to, it's his game so he can choose to have pity on losing players if he wants. I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping that he knows when to draw the line. That or that the handicaps can be turned off :ohwell:

It won't.

Say in a 5 stock match, P1 is killed three times left with 2 stocks, while P2 still has 5. P1 gets a free Final Smash. If P2 dies, P2 has 4 stocks. While P1 has 2, still. Oh boy. How game-breaking.

I just said that pretty much on the last page. I'm for the handicap, not against it, or at least, not "not for it."

Man people get up in arms of the smallest things these days. Half the time if I'm playing someone that bad I mess around and they get a pity kill anyway... at least this way it looks cool.

Getting real tired of people leaping to the dumbest effing conclusions that people bandwagon onto just because they don't like a feature in a game they've NEVER PLAYED.

"Oh... auto edge grab huh? We may as well just give everyone instant recovery with invinciability frames the whole time!!"

Calm the **** down and go play some melee so you stop twitching.

Hehe, 'salright.

Edit'd my last post on this page (just said that I'm not NOT against the handicap).

I have a tendancy to edit a post a few times right after I post it. =P

Guys, seriously. Take a deep breath. It will almost certainly be able to be turned off. And even if it isn't, most of the time it won't make a difference anyway, at least not in competitive 1v1 or even 2v2 fights.

I for one know I'll be enjoying the game, and will get used to any changes they make instead of throwing a fit...

Meh. I fail to see the big deal. If you suck that badly, this won't save you as most final smashes are not instant kill moves. It's like the Naruto fighters on Gamecube: taking alot of damage is one of the things that fills your special attack meter.

Why would anyone think this isnt something you can turn off? It must be tied in to the appearance of Smash Balls. If Smash Balls are turned off, then it should turn off Final Smashes in any form...

Too panicky around here...
