Idea: Petition Nintendo for a Melee re-release with online play

Yeah, as the title says. To expand a bit on my reasoning, I dislike Brawl. It's too slow for my tastes, and it lacks the depth that I see in Melee. I'm sure one major contributing factor for Brawl outshining Melee is because of online play. I'm under the belief that if Melee were re-released with online compatibility, the Melee scene would grow, and hopefully, get bigger than Brawl. That's at least my hope. Has this been attempted? Even if it has, I'm thinking we should try. I know Nintendo doesn't really listen to the consumer regarding their game releases, but we can only try, right? Am I alone here, or have any of you ever wished for a Melee re-release with online? How would we get this petition started, and how would we present it to Nintendo?

I'm willing to get this started if I see that there is a lot of support in doing so.

A new Smash game is in the works so I highly doubt they will re-release Melee if people petition for it. I mean, the chances of them actually doing it because of a petition is already slim. The fact that Nintendo's focus is on a new smash game makes the chance of re-releasing Melee almost nonexistent.

They rereleased smash 64 downloadably. This will probably occur with melee to. Online play won't matter, because we won't have the right controllers.

Yeah, they released Smash 64 for the virtual console. However, what the OP is talking about is re-releasing Melee with modified content. Smash 64 was released unchanged. Optimizing Melee with online play takes time and money. Time and money Nintendo would rather spend elsewhere.

It's times like this that I wish Nintendo was more open minded about stuff like Capcom.
we're kinda playing a game w/ the wrong franchise to expect competitive support

at this point melee is what we as the community make it

we all know it's good, idc if it's big or not, i still want to be the best at it because i've never played a game that requires so much, it's a challenge whether i have to beat millions of randoms, or thousands of established players

Honestly though, if we got a **** ton of people to sign... we all know Nintendo likes their money... I've already got 3 copies of Melee. Who knows, maybe after WiiU releases would be a better time for this.

And Smash4 isn't in production yet, it's just been a confirmed release for WiiU/3DS

You guys know you can play online with dolphin, right? I'd focus on making that better if I were you; it could actually happen and any problems with it (delay) would be present in a re-release with online as well.

It's true, one thing to take take note of is Operarion Rainfall.

Anyway, I like the idea of an Online Melee without the use of Dolphin but let's face it, Nintendo and Sora are quite busy with the upcoming Smash project, they won't listen to what the fans have to sat ATM, at least maybe when it's all set and done, but even then I have doubts.

Actually they're only busy with Kid Icarus Uprising. I think they said development on Smash Bros. won't actually start until Kid Icarus is finished.

Oh yes, I am quite aware of that, I meant to say that they will be busy with planning and such before development starts in October.

I think we'll make a petition with hundreds of thousands of signatures, they'll finally do it, everyone will be so hype, lining up outside the store to get it and ****, and then we'll get home and find out they patched wavedashing.

1. Nintendo won't listen. Sorry.
2. Even if they did, do you REALLY want to play Melee with an online that will probably end up being horrible, like Brawl? Brawl's online has a MINIMUM 6 FRAME DELAY LIMIT ADDED IN, for some reason. You're better off trying Dolphin online out.

If there were a re-release it wouldn't be like brawl im sure of it but the controls wouldn't let us do much.
But about smash4 I think Ono should help them I mean look how good street fighter is. I have SSF4 AE and it is pretty technical and competitive like smash melee.
I had gotten to ask a question to capcom in a live stream and answered that They'd love to work with Nintendo's next smash brothers but that it is up to Nintendo ofcourse.
I hope they do work with them. I hope Ono saves smash brothers.

This is a delay built into brawl to account for lag on different input types (wiimotes have ~100ms input lag).

There is a similar measure in place in offline play but the difference is much smaller (gamecube controller has an advantage at ~23ms input lag, but the advantage is reduced so the wiimote can keep up) and the lag is less noticeable because the game is already so slow that even 6 frames doesn't matter.

Also, if Nintendo wouldn't bring Mother 3 to the states with a substantial built-in fanbase, finished translation, and existing rom already created for them FOR FREE, they won't bother spending money tweaking their best selling gamecube title when they could just resell melee on download service for pure profit with no effort.

doesn't project m already have online?
Is it even finished yet? Still, it's not the same. It's good, but it's not the same.

And as far as Dolphin online goes... there's no easy way to turn the cube controller into a USB ported controller is there? Smash Brothers with anything but a Cube controller just sounds... odd...

i can agree with that. and also the fact that it would be on brawl's online, which would suck anyway. i just hadn't seen anyone post that idea. and wanted to make sure all possible ideas were brought to light. also, when nintendo no longer has gamecube's rights, and we can re create consoles, like the nes is now, we could build a gamecube with online maybe?

Thousands of people are spamming every possible Nintendo social media account for them to localize The Last Story, Xenoblade and Pandora's Tower. Nintendo still says it's not happening.

Far less people would support this idea, leaving us with a 0.000000000000000000000000001% chance of it actually happening. Remember, Nintendo doesn't care about fans, they care about money. If it's not low budget/super high returns, it's not happening. Period.

However, I do have hope that GC classics are re-released in the future in HD for Wii U. Wind Waker and Melee especially. However, there isn't a chance in **** Nintendo would re-release it with online. That's much effort than 0, which is the maximum effort Nintendo puts into re-releases most of the time.

Lol, if Nintendo did a online rerelease, like if they wanted to ACTUALLY spend the money on doing that. They'd most likely do small rebalances and changes that'd piss off the tournament community, this is Nintendo we're talking about. Wasn't there a version of Melee released with wavedashing patched out? They'd probably use that.

Actually online GC titles might be available for download on the Wii-U in the future via their virtual console.

I can bet you anything that Melee will probably be re-released as a downloable title, I kinda want online with it though but I'm guessing it will be a straight port from the GNC.

Melee is as good as it is because people have to make the effort to play together. If it did have online, playing locally could be affected heavily. No online. Melee is already as good as it'll be, and 10 years proves it.

We will probably just have to wait for the new smash game to come out and hope it has good physics and mechanics like melee.

WII SUCKS. Nintendo you're telling me I can't play 1v1 with my friend that lives 2 miles away without lag? While xbox live and PSN users are playing across the world with 16 players on one server with minimal lag?

Melee can't be played online, if there is one frame of lag FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
