And as for Waluigi. The controversy of the death threats on Twitter aside, Waluigi no doubt got the biggest reaction amongst the initial wave of deconfirmations. News media reported about it, memed to hell and back, etc. When one character is shouted out loud at Nintendo enough and people like Reggie even answer questions and/or comments about it not long after. It should at least be in the back of our minds. Again, still a hurdle. But if we should get an assist promoted within the same game and not be an echo, Waluigi's pretty much first in line.

I actually agree with you here that the whole thing was overblown. Just fandom-wise someone's going to bring it up it seems any time Waluigi comes up in the conversation so just to address it best to make an offhand notion about it.

Here's an analogy to making Tails a pseudo-clone of Sonic by giving him only Sonic's special moves and final smash:

If I made moveset mods for both Goku and Vegeta, but I made Vegeta a pseudo-clone of Goku by only giving him a similar neutral special (Galick Gun would be cloned from Kamehameha) and Side Special (Ki Blasts for both of them), but the rest of Vegeta's moveset would be unique. It would make sense because Vegeta's Galick Gun is based on Goku's Kamehameha.

Same thing would go with making Tails a pseudo-clone of Sonic, Tails still has some moves cloned from Sonic.

Not for a whole moveset and definitely not for a new series category with the addition of his own series icon. It's two incredibly niche spinoff titles compared to how many Sonic games he's been in?

As far as moveset there's also nothing to really pull from in regards to Skypatrol.

Now I just created a new theory that assist trophy replacements may be introduced. Here are some green flags.

1, Sans is a mii costume, and Waluigi and Papyrus have similar proportions, thus if Waluigi gets released as a DLC fighter, papyrus will replace and mimic the Waluigi assist trophy when Waluigi is in battle.

2. Emerl isn't a spirit, but he wouldn't make a great playable character. And Knuckles being an assist trophy could mean that Tails will be a DLC fighter. So Tails's DLC spirit board might feature Emerl as a spirit. Just like Papyrus, Emerl and Bomberman similar proportions. Likewiswe, if Bomberman gets released as a DLC Emerl will replace and mimic Bomberman's assist trophy when Bomberman is in battle.

I mean if they are deliberately leaving out Mii costumes of Geno and Heihachi because they're coming/being considered as characters, that doesn't instil confidence for Tails still having his Mii costume from last game, unless that decision wouldn't have been made had the whole "more DLC" decision come earlier (perhaps Geno and Heihachi only missing after that decision could have been made?). Beyond that, we've still never had a proper non-Echo second character for a third party yet, Ken being the closest thing. Maybe they could go with making an Isabelle-level semiclone, but it's unprecedented that that much more work Isabelle required over an echo would suffice for a third party's second character who isn't as popular with Japan (and Sakurai?) as it is over here. Not to mention Arle Nadja might just take another SEGA slot if it gets one.

We would have similar doubts about say, ANY second rep for a third party prior to Richter, right? I'd at least say the door is kinda open to third party semiclones seeing as Ken was practically that if still an echo, though again, Tails's Mii costume returning complicates things for him at best?

Honestly, Eggman is the one Sonic character without a damning AT or costume, and might even have just as valid a spot as second Sonic rep as Tails; the only problem is whether the OTHER Sega "Mean Beans" person gets the look instead, especially in terms of Japanese popularity.

I understand. I only really made this moveset as a fun idea, since they play so similarly to each other in SA2 that I figured trying my hand at a tails version. If tails were to ever get in, he would undoubtedly he on foot, with maybe the exception of a few moves in the mech or something similar.

Put me down as a Tails supporter. If we're playing the super specific "Which characters from already represented third-party franchises should get into Smash?" game, he's second only to Chun-Li.

I like him as a Sonic semi-clone so he plays similarly to the 2D games (he should definitely be able to spin dash, for instance), and his home stage should definitely be Casino Night Zone!
