I like him as a Sonic semi-clone so he plays similarly to the 2D games (he should definitely be able to spin dash, for instance)

Out of all the games Tails is playable in he can Spin-Dash in like 12 of them off the top of my head if we include spin-offs. He only lacks it in like 3 games if we discount mobile games where nobody can do it.

There's absolutely no reason Tails shouldn't have the Spin-Dash. He literally does it the most out of anybody not named Sonic.

I know you said that, I’m thinking about an argument from the old social thread that the Spin-Dash is “associated” more with Shadow than Tails so most people wouldn’t think to put a Spin-Dash in his moveset which I disagree with heavily.

That's so silly. That's like saying jumping is associated more with Wario than with Luigi.

Honestly, perfect Sonic representation is Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Eggman/Robotnik (who knows if we'll ever get there), and the first three should all definitely spin dash.

Been thinking a lot of Tails as a possible playable character.
Ideally I would love Metal Sonic in Smash, but because he’s the 5th Sonic character to be introduced (1.Sonic, 2.Eggman, 3.Tails, 4.Amy, 5.MetalSonic) and the fact that he’s not the main villain, I’m going to keep it real.
Tails deserves it more.

Ideally, I think using Sonic the Fighters for his very basic (grounded neutral) attacks, as well as some of Sonic battle’s for aerials and specials.

But mostly keep him a semi-clone of Sonic.
Mainly Spindash, then maybe 2 throws, 2 tilts, 2 aerials, and the rest being ones from the fighting games, Adventure and advance games.

I think... not to sound entitled, but Sakurai owes a little more to Sonic than the barebones moveset he was given. So to make Tails a sort of “more interesting to play” Sonic, would be pretty cool actually, and very welcome too.

I can see Tails not only being a hit and run character, but also a trap-Master.

I can’t think of a fitting final smash other than:

Classic style: Tails jumps on his Tornado biplane, and grabs opponent with the latch on the rear. Performs an aerial loop and detatches the opponent, slamming him/her on the ground.

Dreamcast style: Tails jumps in his mech, and performs that Emerald beam he does when his bar fills in SA2.

Modern style: Tails gathers at least 5 different Wisps to perform a devastating combo on his opponent.
1) Laser (damage racking)
2) Spikes (more damage racking)
3) Drill (drills opponent on the ground)
4) Rocket (carries opponent way up high)
5) Cube (comes down crashing with the opponent below him).

I think his Final Smash should be Super Tails. He can summon his army of Flickies to attack the competition!

Not to derail the topic, but speaking of making Sonic more interesting, I have some suggestions. Make his side special the Super Peel-out from Sonic CD, turn the Spin Dash into the Drop Dash if you use it in the air, and make his neutral air the insta-shield. (Of course, that would require recalibration across the board, but that's not fun to talk about.)

Tails looks like he's making a cameo. And he doesn't look too bad. Though I wonder if this was tacked on during the delay or Tails had an ugly design too beforehand.

Tails isn't making it into Smash Ultimate. But at least this would mean he's still making constant appearances in things that usually focus on only Sonic and Eggman. It'll help keep him relevant still for when he does have another shot at a Smash game should Sonic ever get the representation expansion.

Premise is that all presented 1st party franchises (with main casts) has got such treatment. If not, Sonic getting it before Kirby or DK would be a heated controversy in the end.

With Olympics exists, it sure shows the possibility for multiple Sonic characters to compete with Mario characters. Maybe let's see if SEGA want to plan a crossover with NIntendo like Marvel vs. Capcom.

I get that the two series are built so differently that a 2D platformer probably wouldn't work, but I'll take anything over a mini-game collection. Even something completely out of left field like Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle.

Hey everyone. I want to be part part of the Prower Club. Tails has always been my favorite character from the Sonic series.

Sonic 2, the game that introduced Tails, holds a lot of sentimental value to me. Chemical Plant Zone has always been my favorite zone from the series. When I was a kid I thought that the liquid from the Chemical Plant Zone was pink lemonade (yeah, that was quite an imagination I had).

I have wanted Tails to join the Smash Bros. roster for 20 years now. I recall when I was younger I was one of the ones that actually believed in that prank that Sonic and Tails were in Melee. It was frustrating discovering that it was just a troll, and to this day I feel empty just thinking about it.

I am surprised the Sonic series hasn’t gotten another character at this point, very surprised. Mario and DK have their sidekicks by their side, but Sonic doesn’t have his yet. Right now Sonic’s representation in Smash depends on how much Nintendo and Sega are willing to co-operate together on the matter. Who knows what will happen in this Fighters Pass 2, but adding Tails would be huge. While Sonic doesn’t have perfect representation in Smash, adding Tails to the roster will make me very happy.

It's been a while huh? Been about 2 years I think.
A lot has happened since then huh?
Challenger Pack 1 had a decent line up of characters like Banjo, Terry and Joker being the best, Hero being decent and Byleth...... Eh.
I'm not gonna act like that was a good choice. I mean we already had enough FE characters.
But yeah overall I'd say it was worth the money.
Speaking of Byleth, them being in Smash actually has brought its upsides at least. Them being in Smash means that characters from series already represented in Smash can still join.
And also, the new first character in Challenger Pack 2 will be an ARMS character. If this rep say, Spring Man, then that means characters who are either Assist Trophies or Spirits can be playable.
So there is still a small chance of hope for our favourite fox.
Now, of course, that means we could get competition from Shadow and Knuckles, and also other characters like Waluigi, but either way, it still helps.
BUT THAT'S NOT ALL.

I really want Tails to be in Smash. Even if its a bit on the unlikely side, I still want it to happen badly and I'd do many things to make this real.

Personally I liked FP1.
Joker was like ... eh, indifferent. When’s Hero?

Banjo was like, hey that’s cool, they made it!

Terry was like YES!! Unexpected but cool!!! KOF hype!! (And 3 weeks later I never used him again)

Byleth was like (censored).


But I’m pretty positive about FP2. Hyped for an Arms character despite me only playing the demo.
Hoping for Ribbon Girl, Min-Min, or any other girl.

Also crossing my fingers for another classic Sega character such as Tails, or a Streets of Rage character (Blaze pls).

Just realized it'd be the perfect time for him to be in Smash too. With the new Sonic movie introducing people to the series, it'd be perfect for them to add Tails in, to capitalize on the that. People would recognize him from the Post-credits and might be interested in buying the game and him.
