Hi everyone. I am new to Smashboards so pardon me. I have an interesting case for yall and this will probably get lost in the Smashboards posts. But I have a strong case to believe Chief is the final character in Smash. Today was the day Vergeben implies Chief was coming to Smash Ultimate. Specifically for E3. Well, it didn't end up happening and ended up being Kayuza. However, there is a strong case that Chief is the final fighter in this pass. But first, let me claim this before I start. Vergeben was NOT the first to imply Chief. He was the third to bring evidence to this. The first evidence was with a Switch modder.

This appeared in Forest Maze discord before it was unpinned. A switch modder (keeping name unknown for its safety. let's say started the Switch mod trend), posted an unknown source telling 4 things going down. It encrypted 4 of the codes, the first code being bait, but the rest of them revealed except 1 being hidden due to difficult encrypting. Two of them revealed being Metroid V and Master Chief (just Master Chief alone). Metroid V DID happen in the direct recently, renaming it to Metroid Dread. Believing the Chief coding more food to thought. I would've posted the tweets of this alone, but they were deleted due to Nintendo Ninjas lurking.

Shortly after, a Resetera moderator posted this.

As claimed in the 1st post, a Resetera moderator posted this. This was the 2nd evidence. Vergeben came in as the 3rd evidence lastly. Vergeben did leaked Chief yes, but he did not imply this to be at E3. None of this comment implies this to be at E3.

However, some of yall seem to forget Vergeben's credibility. He got all of his Smash predictions correct. Only 1 of them is disproven and the other in question. The disproven being Square being first DLC, and the in-question being Chief. But most of his leaks did indeed happened. Even with his Minecraft post, it still happened. It just takes time to make it happen. The timing is poor sure, but it does not make him any less credible at the slightest.

Anyways, this was posted up,

This can either be a good or bad sign for Chief. But some people claimed to be bad due to not hearing this info. However, those same people also seem to forget this event happening. Link: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/234547-super-smash-bros-ultimate/77618871

Both of these people are community managers at their own respected games, Minecraft and Halo. However, the Minecraft CM also did not hear anything for Steve, yet Steve happened. This can be the same case for Chief. Community managers aren't reliable in terms of knowing Smash info. That I believe should be Phil. This can also be an act of deflection. As Grant Kirkhope did with Banjo-Kazooie. Funny how all of this relates to Microsoft, huh lol?

In conclusion, Chief may not be revealed today, but his chances of happening are boosted significantly up from 50% to 95% (the other 5 being odd). But with this evidence in mind, Chief will be able to make an appearance in some form. There is a chance he could become mii costume (if it happens in Kayuza's Presentation), but I find it to be unlikely. We have yet received an FPS rep as well as somewhat of a western pick this year. Chief would also make sense to finish off this fighter pass with his signature "FInish The Fight" slogan. And do not forget Phil Spencer's shelf theory. Because that is not confirmed to be Game Pass and this collaboration happening in the fall, which lines well with the ending of this fighter pass. We may have won regardless of the E3 reveal.

If this post requests to be taken down, I will gladly do so since I'm new to Smashboards and trying not to get banned lmao. I hope I have given all of the Chief followers/believers some hope and confidence. Do not forget to finish the fight and keep believing and hoping.
Thank you for sharing. I dont understand why people thought Vergeben was "wrong" when he never even stated this was for E3. He just hinted that chief could come to Smash at any moment. Which makes his phrase "finish the fight" more fitting since there's only one foghter left. I recently looked back at all the leaks Vergeben has told in the last years and he has been on point with Smash characters. He is very accurate about the characters he leaks.

Someone just told me that Steve is not in the same situation because Mojang CM said during FP1, not FP2... do you buy that?
It’s been confirmed that it took 5 years for Steve to get in. The Mojang CM just straight up didn’t know. She probably didn’t know until shortly before the reveal.

"B-but, that doesn't mean Steve was worked on for 5 years straight!!"

I get what people are saying, but that still doesn't change the fact that Mojang CM didn't know.

Trust me, I have no secret info or insight. But I've been poking at this and trying to rile up the community off and on for years. I'd love to see it happen, but it's going to be way above my pay grade. We just need to politely keep reminding Phil and Doug why this would be a perfect move. :) Also, the announcement of Minecraft characters coming over seems to give us a bit more hope?
Yeah, he admitted he doesn't have any info. I think I should post this on r/smash

If Chief is out, then I wish Spencer or someone high up at 343 would let us know. The CM is a cool dude, but I think this is above his pay grade.
I'm trying to look at it from Xbox's perspective. I guess having your characters talked about by another company would be a good thing, even if it doesn't pan out. Definitely could help drive the character into Smash 6, and even get more eyes on Halo Infinite.

I will say that it’s possible that Vergeben may have gotten info about Chief being negotiated for the next Smash game but assumed it’s for Ultimate.

He talked about Steve & Sephiroth two years before they actually came out. So it’s not the first time he’s known about stuff way before it happened.

Apparently Cloud was negotiated for Smash 4 & Ultimate at the same time; I could see talks for Hero & Sephiroth beginning then too. So it’d make sense to secure Steve & Banjo’s return now, while getting Chief locked in as a mega character for the next game.

Obviously, I’d prefer Chief to get in now. But hey that’s better than him never getting in lol

I think it's very likely to be this game (Smash Ulitmate is what I'm talking about haha). The unknown source from that Switch modder and Vergeben gives good evidence on Chief and it's unknown if there will be a next Smash game or even any plans on it. It's too early to talk about next Smash game where this game is currently being worked on with CP11. From Smash 4 and Ulitmate, it's understandable because it's a continuation from both games. Evidence proof here: https://www.usgamer.net/articles/super-smash-bros-ultimate-development-likely-ending

(This column was during Min Min being only one revealed)

Sorry for not getting the actual famitsu source. This is hard to find haha. But I can assure you Source Gaming has backed that up that very quote.

It is definitely possible though. Though I am concern why would they end off Smash Ulitmate seeing how fairly new the Switch is (4 years compared to Wii 7 years) and well, only 1 fighter being planned on.

Hi everyone, back again from the previous long post I replied. I wanted to say thank y'all for liking my old post. To be honest, I am 95% confident Chief will be CP11. But today I wanted to tackle the arguments and give a little more support for my old Chief's post. I really do want him in the game and will find any evidence for it, won't lie. But I will do my utmost best to be fair and give possible outcomes/information regarding his case.

To extend my previous post and starting with this post now, some people claim that Chief may be negotiated along with Banjo and Steve to be in Smash. Since we all know negotiations started before or during FP1 or FP2 started and decided upon, there's no proof Chief is one of those decided characters. However, there is somewhat evidence Chief may be negotiated on. Starting off with King Zell.

This happened during AT LEAST around CP5 was before revealed (Byleth). Some people claimed this could indicate Master Chief Collection on Switch, which is yet to happen. While this could be a possibility, this could also be a hint towards Chief in Smash because it's not a direct comment saying of just Halo on Switch. This would tie in great for negotiations for Chief, which would be before FP2 and during either or before FP1. It just counters the theory that "If negotiations started now, it would be too late since FP1 and 2 are decided upon." But that wouldn't necessarily work on Chief in that regard since King Zell could be blatantly hinting at negotiations of Halo in some form, which would be before FP1 or during.

Now back to the other theory of Phil Spencer's Shelf Theory.

In this picture, there is a Switch on top of Phil Spencer's shelf. To explain the history of the shelf theory. Phil done this exact tactic to reveal the Xbos Series S. This photo I showed is taken in February of 2021. Everything on that shelf means something, including the Switch. Claimed by Jeff Grubb. https://gamingbolt.com/everything-o...omething-including-the-switch-journalist-says

To extend more proof on this theory, Shpeshal Nick, co-founder of XboxEra, claims that "The cat seems to be out of the bag on Nintendo and Xbox. You'll hear more in the fall"

Some people claimed this would indicate Game Pass on Switch. However, that possibility shot down by David Gibson, co-founder of Astris Advisory Japan.

If this isn't Game Pass, what would it be then? It is possible to be a deflection by the way. But I kinda doubt that because if they were to bring Game Pass on Switch, some of the games probably wouldn't work there like Halo Infinite since the graphics are up to date. It could be Rare Replay or Master Chief Collection, but there is a strong chance that this could be Chief in Smash, with the leakers in mind from my previous post. And this claimed of this Microsoft and Nintendo collaboration is happening in the fall, which ties very well with the end of Fighter Pass 2.

Now I want to tackle the arguments against Chief because people would flat out unconfirmed Chief as a fighter entirely due to these arguments. I will be doing it in a clear format so people can see these arguments well. I will mention 4 arguments. If there are any more arguments, I will try to get back to that in a separate post but it must be valid.

"The leakers/Nintendo put Master Chief for the bait to catch people off guard"
That one is a pretty dumb argument in my opinion no offense. For both sides no less. If Nintendo were to bait Master Chief, why would they? That could easily cause conflict with Microsoft no less. Just imagine a company trying to use Chief as the bait just to tease something else. That would RUINED the relationship and would cause problems. And not to mention, this would contradict Phil Spencer's Shelf Theory since both companies are working on a project together. Why jeopardize that relationship? If it were leakers, that would cause the same problem to them as well. Why jeopardize their reliability? They have leaked so far most of the things happening with Nintendo and then to jeopardize with 1 thing by Chief, only to not have them reliable anymore. That would cause many problems for both cases. This is why this argument is invalid due to its unsensible action.

"Halo was never on Nintendo systems"
While that is the case, Nintendo/Sakurai wouldn't care in that regard anyway. Everyone should know the 3 rules of joining Smash posted by Source Gaming. https://sourcegaming.info/2015/10/05/sakuraithirdparty/
To briefly mention, 1) Has to be a video-game character. 2) Both parties must agree. 3) Must have gaming history. It's only a courtesy to be on one, but not a requirement. Even if this argument has any valid into it, Chief would be in a weird case since both Microsoft and Nintendo are closely relationships to one another. Both companies are claimed to be the pinnacle of E3 2021, indicating their closeness. And Chief has appeared in games like Fortnite and Minecraft, both on Switch, which would be the case of Cloud back in Smash 4 where he only appeared in Kingdom Hearts and Thearhythm. In short, this argument wouldn't hold at all.

"Does Nintendo care about Halo? / Not popular in Japan"
This argument might be the tougher one of the 4. Nintendo may not show any indication of Chief, but I would bet Microsoft would touch upon Halo to Nintendo in some way. I mean there was no proof of Nintendo caring Kayuza, Sephiroth, or Terry in that regard yet they're in Smash. I bet Microsoft would argue the case for Chief. Besides, it is Xbox's version of Mario. I think it would be great to have 2 different console mascots being in Smash since it shows greats relationships to one another. To counter the argument of popularity, it's not just Halo that's unpopular, it's the genre. FPS isn't that popular in Japan due to its violence/lack of fanfics. That is sadly the same with Microsoft being unpopular there. But that doesn't mean it should end the case for Smash inclusions. We have yet received an FPS and Chief is our best shot. What Sakurai would look for is the uniqueness of a fighter and having an FPS would bring more variety than a platformer/fighting/JRPG. Plus if Microsoft wants to push into the Japanese market, Chief in Smash would be a godly start. Don't forget the "Finish The Fight" slogan would make great business marketing with the said fighter. It's also evident that Sakurai has acknowledged Halo as well. For starters, he has an Xbox One, evident on Min Min's Presentation seeing Sakurai's house and TV. And he has made an article on American games, where Halo 2 is mentioned. Proof via Source Gaming: https://sourcegaming.info/2017/07/12/feelofamericangames/
There is at least acknowledgment of Halo from Sakurai. Let's hope for the best.

"Smash has terrible endings"
This one wouldn't be valid in my opinion if you take timing/businesses into consideration. Starting with Smash 64, there were no third parties. Smash 64 was the start of it all. I think being the 1st would excuse the outcome of "amazing endings." Then Melee, there were close to being a 3rd party being with Snake. But it was too late into development and Melee has a rough development time being made I believe less than a year. Still, there were open to the idea of third parties. Brawl had only 2. But it was still the start of third parties. I also think Microsoft wouldn't care much during that time. Brawl ended with Wolf, Jiggly, and Toon Link sure. But they were late into development. Smash 4 happened and we got third parties from Capcom, Sega, Square, and Bandai with the loss of Konami. In Konami's case, there were problems with Kojima and Konami during the time, which probably would cause a lot of problems with Snake in Smash. Hence why he's gone. Smash 4 ended with Corrin and Bayo, Both being the true end of Smash 4.

Finally in Ulitmate. Some people claimed that the last fighter would be a Nintendo fighter to promote their said newer series. We are going to use Corrin and Bayo as the case. Corrin is 1st party yes that brought attention towards Fates during its time of release. However, there isn't really a known new IP to bring into Ulitmate. Unless you want to count games that already have the main protagonists in Smash that have side characters. Then games like Metroid V and Warioware would be in play. But in that case, it's usually the main protagonists that have inclusions towards Smash and not much of the side characters. Also, I think that would be too late into development seeing how FP1 and FP2 were decided upon before their games. I actually believe Kayuza is that Corrin spot of being "1st party." Yes, I know Kayuza is third party by Bandai. However, Smash Ultimate is work on by Sakurai and Bandai Namco, which could technically be that house character. In that case, there isn't really a true Bayo ending to finish off Ulitmate. I believe Chief would be that Bayo ending while giving that splash of Corrin into it. Since Halo Infinite is being released during the holidays. Yes, there isn't a Halo on Switch, but I think it brings possibilities towards Halo MCC for Switch. It is possible that it could be both Chief in Smash and MCC.

In conclusion, Chief at least would make a hard case to argue against him without making an unsensible argument. In reality yes, we have no idea who's the final fighter and there is no concrete proof Chief would be the final fighter. But I do believe all of these alignments will help his case. It's just that he has a lot of alignments to support him and none of these cases would be contradictory. To bring these cases:

-Leakers backing him up for Smash
-Phil Spencer's Shelf Theory aligning with the end of FP2.
-Great business marketing move for Halo Infinite for Japan.
-Possible negotiation outcome (King Zell argument)

Weaker support arguments but still can be valid:
-Uniqueness and variety of series
-Support from both companies
-Smash's true end

I really hope you all don't give up hope on this character. Because putting my Chief bias aside, he at least has the most alignments going forward to him. And that is enough to have hope on the fighter. This is our final hope and I know some of yall don't want to be put in the same situation again where you have hope for the fighter and ended up not happening. That I understand and would hate to see that happen. Truly sorry for that really. But this is the last true time we will do such. There will be no fighter after CP11. This is our final stand, our make-or-break moment. One-shot, and that is enough to make our hope a reality. And if it doesn't happen, that will be the last time you do such and no more after. But I am confident CP11 would be a good outcome for us Chief supporters. Just don't give up hope yet till it's over y'all. Keep fighting.

Sorry for my long wall of text posts lmao. But I kinda really wanted to make this into a video and probably gonna use these scripts for it lol.

There will be another Smash after Ultimate, it makes Nintendo too much money for there not to be a new one

It will be sad, as I am all for just having the entire roster. **** balance, I wanna have fun with my siblings with playing our favorite characters. A new game will most likely not go to the lengths Ultimate has gone. I want the big branding to be a spinning wheel to show "100". Just sell "100 Characters from video game history compete for the title of the greatest."

I know quality > quantity, but I have my Mii slots all filled with fighters to represent those that didn't make and just want more. I want to hold more custom stages, more custom characters. Give Sakurai a break and bring in a successor to feed me more Smash DLC and costumes, I'll be reaching quad digits on this game soon enough and need more.

Funny thing is, Ultimate is the most balanced Smash by far, despite having the biggest roster. The game is clearly the peak of Smash though, the magnum opus.

But yes, there's always going to be another Smash, just like how there's always going to be another Mario Kart. I've had so much fulfillment from Ultimate though, I wouldn't be mad if it was my last Smash game. Depending on the roster/cuts and direction of the next Smash or the one after that, I may skip it. Nothing lasts forever, and if I don't have the same fulfillment with Smash anymore, I'm not obligated to continue supporting it.

If others see it as self-entitlement, then whatever. I've had my fill and rides with Smash up to this point. An NU Smash that's post-Sakurai especially (Smash will outlive him) will be a tough sell for me depending on the direction.

In any case, with the coinciding of Infinite, this is Chief's best time to get into Smash.

Uhhh probably. But I think it's too early to start development and planning right away. I just think it would be better just to have one new character be in Ulitmate that is planned for next game. Probably easier to smooth transition previous 3rd parties as veterans as well.

There is absolutely no way in hell that Ultimate is the last Smash game, but I do think that its the end of the current era of Smash.
Whatever comes next is going to be a reboot in my opinion. Much smaller roster, characters completely redesigned from the ground up, entirely new stages, etc. It will probably also go back to being a primarily Nintendo-centric game with little to no 3rd parties.

Ultimate is special because it is probably the biggest crossover we'll ever see. It would be really nice to see Chief included in Ultimate before the series gets rebooted.

It might just be wishful thinking, but I do think he has a good shot at being the last character. Smash may historically have pretty anticlimactic endings, but Ultimate feels different. Ending with Xbox's mascot and one of the biggest icons in gaming would really finish things with a bang.

Yeah, there will be another Smash after this. How long? Who knows, but there will definitely be more money made using the Smash brand.

People have been saying "make the next Smash built from the ground up!" for ages now (even before Ultimate), but each sequel has always managed to reuse assets from the previous games, which I think they'll continue doing. Though I understand the appeal, never really agreed with the reboot boner that some have.

Oh I don't WANT a reboot, but it feels like Sakurai has really stressed this time that "nothing like Ultimate is going to be able to happen again".
Add in the fact that Sakurai is talking about retiring and Ultimate just feels like the end of a "generation" of Smash.

I just personally feel that whatever comes next is going to be very different.

Ah, okay. That's fair. Obviously not everyone's going to return, whether they continue reusing assets for things or not, but not that many in my opinion really need a redesign, though if it happens I'd be fine with that too. The most I really want for older characters is new skins, like one for Samus's Dread suit and whatever future designs other characters get.

It would be cool to "modernize" some characters changing one or two moves for them (for example I have great ideas about Cappy integration for Mario, and a barrel launch for DK sideB; and I am a fart in comparison to Sakurai!), but it wouldn't be a REBOOT. Smash doesn't need a reboot, it's a unique game and a "perfect" one (between commas because true perfection doesn't exist)

I'd rather take a Port of Ultimate with all DLC available alongside a revamped world of light possibly.
That's what I'm hoping too. I'd rather they just build on this roster forever if possible.
I just think its likely that a new game director will take over the series and try to do something a little different.

Ugh, I wish Verge never opened his mouth. It sucks seeing Chief being dragged through the mud because of him.
Has he said anything since?
I personally don't put much thought into what he says, but I'd be curious to hear if he has anything else to say now that he was wrong.

Nah, he’s seemed to have gone dark. I wonder if he’s trying to talk to his sources to find out what happened or if he’s waiting for this to blow over.

They put Ridley and Little Mac that already got on Japanese's nerves. First party? Base game? They would've not bothered putting them in the first place if they were so worried about Japanese base. Little Mac really got negative reaction from Japanese fans. Japanese speculation seems pretty chill or cool with Chief from what I was told.

Ugh, I wish Verge never opened his mouth. It sucks seeing Chief being dragged through the mud because of him.
I would rather say the same to the community director because people take his word as gospel of deconfirmation.

I personally don't put much thought into what he says, but I'd be curious to hear if he has anything else to say now that he was wrong.
He wasn't wrong. He said nothing about Chief being revealed at E3. Still one more fighter to go. If Chief isn't the last fighter, then he is wrong. One thing about Ver is that he is very on point when it comes to smash characters. The only thing that he gets wrong at times, is the timing of when these characters show up. He said a square enix character would be the first DLC fighter but we got joker instead. The thing is, we got Hero right afterwards. He talked about Minecraft getting some type of content and it happened.

I would rather say the same to the community director because people take his word as gospel of deconfirmation.
May I ask how did you get the information for Little Mac and Ridley? And I'm glad the Japanese views for Chief are good too. But can you provide proof so I can help defend Chief in his quest for Smash lol?

Ayumi Tachibana gave me insight on Japanese speculation.

As for my own research...

There is Halo anime.

It also ranked seventh in Blu-ray Disc rankings in Japan.

Master Chief making at front cover of Famitsu.

There was outrage from Japanese fans over change of Master Chief voice actor.

110k sales number for Halo 3 is far from worst, considering circumstance.

I take back on Ridley part.
Still, I don't think Metroid is bigger than Halo in Japan. Despite being Nintendo, Metroid's popularity almost exclusively comes from west.

As for Little Mac....

Oh wow! I knew about there being a Famitsu column for Chief and an outrage on him for his voice change in Japan. But I didn't know the Halo anime was ranked 7th on Blu-ray Disc omg. Thank you for this information! You actually helped my friends with their confidence with Chief in Japan. I gotta check up on the Ayumi Tachibana person but I'm confident you're given me good info on the person ^^^^^^.

I'm glad you pulled up the picture for the Chief Famitsu because I couldn't find it online (with the translations) but thank you for doing that lol. Hopefully we team up for this Chief speculation btw cuz I'm planning on making a video regarding the case after seeing Kayuza's presentation if he's mii or not (which I highly doubt).

If you guys havent seen halo legends yet i highly recommend you do. Its really good! Halo could work as an anime lol
I already own a copy of it. Even "Odd One Out" is guilty pleasure. But on serious note, certain episodes are not that good.

Oh I thought he specifically said something about E3. Like I said I really don't pay much attention to what he says so I probably shouldn't talk like I do lmao.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
