The law of making good games, actually.

Very few all-time (9+ from your average reviewer, let's say) great games have a great sequel to it that strayed far from the original and yet was as good as the original.

And since 3D gaming has begun, it's that much harder.
Brawl is the 7th game to recieve a perfect 40 from Famitsu. (Since the 3D gaming era N64/DC/PS1)

This score is the sum of the scores from 4 different reviewers (10 for each), and all 4 gave brawl a perfect score.

For some extra trivia, the other games that have perfect scores are:
Ocarina of Time
Soulcalibur 1
Vagrant Story
Wind Waker
Nintendogs
FF 12
Brawl

Sheridan is persistent, I'll give you that. I find that often that those providing the opposing argument just get tired of preaching to deaf ears. That and people online tend to scrutinize the least important part of their adversary's argument and use that to discredit them...

Anyways.

I miss melee too =D .

I'd point you directly to the Mario games, or Final Fantasy for examples of successful series whose games generally differ from one another by a good degree.
Fighting games are loads different from RPGs or platformers. You can't possibly compare the two of them.

My point doesn't have to be absolute to be valid. lol @ ****** debates
Fair enough but let's refrain from using the word 'law' if we don't intend to be absolute about things. Lol indeed.

It was never a comparison between a fighting game and another. It was just an example of series that remain consistently good despite major changes in them. It was about game design in general, not necessarily specifically fighting games.

Wow, Vagrant Story got a perfect score? I love that game, but I always thought it was kind of obscure. F'ing AMAZING soundtrack btw; it's like a darker FF Tactics sound.

I like Brawl, but Famitsu gave Vagrant Story and FF12 perfect scores, these are both games I consider pieces of crap. (VS does have a good soundtrack) So I don't really listen to Famitsu. Heh. I agree with Wind Waker, OOT, and Soul Calibur though :)

wow how can u say ff12 is a piece of crap...lmao thats probly the best final fantasy to come out since 7 that game completly revived the series lol...way to be way off edreese =)

..and u really cant compare fighting games series to rpgs...thats story to mechanics...u can compare shooters too it..a good example would be the halo series to the smash series =)

So um, for UCSD Ballroom, we were just getting out of Festizzio's car and this bird flies like right next to us. So I turned to Mike and I was like, "Dude that bird was flying so low... wtf man that's like the lowest I've ever seen a bird," and Mike was like, "Yeah it was flying pretty low," and then Waffle comes out of nowhere and he's like, "No.. haven't you ever seen a bird on the ground?"

The statement was so profound yet so simple. From then on, I have always had only the utmost respect for ResidentWaffle.

Ok so, most of you probably don't know this, but HugS and I were on a crew at MOAST3 called SoCal-Texas, because that's what our players were made up of (this was like 2005, I was playing Zelda lolz!), but it's good to see that we're on the same page again. I told you Texas was West Coast at heart!

I forgot this site existed!

http://www.gamestats.com/index/gs/index.html

Pretty much, takes all the game review scores from all "respectable" sites (qutoes becuase they have the occasional Maxim.com <.<) and a score from user ratings, then average the two.

What IS to notice here is that, the game reviewers gave both Smashes the same average score, but apparently Brawl has a higher user rating.

Resident Evil 4 (for the GC) is #3 ^_^

And yeah FFX and FF Tactics Advanced are the only 2 FFs I played through.

Famitsu gave FF 12 a perfect score? their credibilty is gone lol.

so i was at chinesah's Critical Hit brawl tourny yesterday. things weren't much different, familiar faces showed, brawl was boring, i lost early. then 2 people (myself included) setup the two copies of melee they brought. a crowd immediately formed around these two tvs. i played melee with blues, kirbstir, wife, hat, chudat, and several others. it was amazing. i couldnt believe i waited until the last tow hours of the event to play melee. chudat told me hes quiting brawl and from now on his biweeklies will be melee only. needless to say, i was ecstatic.

looks like everyone's going back to melee :)

Probably playing TF2.
I don't know where i'm going with this, i just miss the Melee community, and i hate that Brawl is breaking it up. I really miss times like these, and online brawl honestly isn't that satisfying when you have to play online and can't even talk to your friends.

This is going to be the most open **** i've ever said, and make fun of me for it all you want, but somebody host a tournament, because i miss everybody, i miss the community, i miss going to dinner after tournaments, i miss playing friendlies with everyone without having to type in 12 numbers into my wii, i miss feeling nervous during a match when my opponent and i are last stock, i miss the frustration after losing a match. I miss every aspect of the community.

So yeah.......
Thats about all my thoughts on the game summed up by somebody else.

Melee had really great moments for me. I mad too many friends, and met a bunch of cool people from it. I learned lessons that changed me, and I traveled because of melee.

Brawl may not be the best game ever, like melee was, but lets at least hope good times and memories will make up for that. Hey, maybe melee will come back, and brawl will be like smash64 =D.

btw, Mike, sorry for randomly talking **** to you via myspace, and just being an idiot towards you in general :/

I don't understand why hate FF12. It's a great game... Not the best but great still. But I do think a perfect score is just a bit to much.

I haven't played Vagrant Story but I heard many good things about the game. The only complaint was that the ending was ambiguous and left some questions unanswered. LOL and no sequel was made to clear things up.

OoT and SC were awesome games and I agree with the scores given but WW IMO should not have gotten a perfect score. A good game like FF12 but a perfect score is way too high.

I don't want to debate FF12 because no one is going to change anyone's mind, but if you're curious why I didn't like it:

-The characters were boring to me besides Balthier
-The dungeon designs bored me
-The storyline was uninteresting
-I didn't really like the villian, he was just some normal guy. He wasn't that fun.
-The coolest person in the same, Al-Cid, was forgotten and ignored
-Bosses would go invincible for no reason and all you could do is heal and wait it out, this made me real mad
-Random treasure chests. In RPGs I love to explore dungeons, but with random treasure chests, I felt it was pointless, and only cared to move to the end of the dungeon
-I didn't really like the license grid that much, I wasn't excited about it, there just wasn't anything cool on it besides the real nice spells and the stat bonuses
-Voice acting was good but the way the audio was recorded really annoyed me. Everyone sounded like they were speaking behind a microphone, this really got to me.
-The music sounded nice, but it wasn't very memorable for me. I can't rememebr the songs the way I can remember Liberi Fatali or One Winged Angel, or Jenova's Theme, or Eyes on Me or the FF4 battle music. I can't really hum ANY of the songs right now off the top off my head, because they just weren't memorable or catchy to me

I can't really pick anything, let's just say I was bored the whole way through with almost everything about it. The only thing I liked was the gambit system and the marks. Again I don't want to debate this you're fine to love the game, I'm just explaining what I don't like for you guys curiosity's sake :)

the only thing i like about ff12 was Ashe.

The only song I remember from ff12 is the intro song because it's the ff trademark song haha

oh mannn. vagrant story a piece of crap?! i thought it was pretty bad ***. different weapons/ techs with those weapons/ magic/ combos and defensive reaction abilities/ combining weapons to make new ones.. the battle system had a lot to offer. it had great music, and extra things to do in new game plus. i hope you played through the whole thing before thinking it sucked edrees >.>
