I´m mostly glad he did comment on the stream, and talked about some of the stuff people need to do to step up to 06 standards.

he made it through pools on predictions and smart play/excellent spacing alone from what i saw, mad impressed

some of the new school players didn't seem know how to deal with a "keep it simple" style marth lol

very interested to see Tai's second set with him tho

I made the original post after I watched crews because I thought the tournament was two days and the tournament was done for the day. So I missed watching bracket live. ****.

Ken's set with Toph best signifies how I feel about Ken in today's metagame

He death combos Toph a bunch of time using 100% fundamentals and basics and ***** him - it looks like he's still a force to be reckoned with

Then Toph runs him over the next two games with modern speed & spacing strategies, survives a gimp that no player in 2006 would have, and lolcombos him a bunch back to win the set

Fundamentals are nice and they can take you somewhere but the positioning and emphasis on minor optimizations in recent years place a need for greater accuracy & precision that Ken simply doesn't have

That said, it's neat watching how people have no idea how to shield against him (Unknown pointed this out to me when we were watching and it was hilarious)

I think the shorter and more accurate answer is that Ken was rusty as **** due to not playing in a tournament since 2007. What I took from Ken's games is that with a lil bit of polish, he would be back to competing at the highest level of play in this game. Dude was putting in work, you and I both know he hasn't played for **** in years lol....

Hearsay incoming:

He said that this is a once in a lifetime sort of thing. He was mostly gonna go to commentate and just hang around I suppose. They let him enter singles/doubles so he did. I honestly don't expect Ken to start playing regularly again.

EDIT: Don't even know if that's the current topic so if it's not, disregard this post. LOL.

It was interesting to watch, if only to show how much muscle memory, and 'game sense' players can maintain. Shame we won't see it honed to a sharp enough level to be relevant.

I thought Ken was overall extremely impressive. He beat everyone except the super technical players (Toph and TAI are two of the quickest of their characters), and even against them he was competitive. The Aussyboo set was a little odd, but tbh Peach has advanced so much I can see how he was thrown off guard.

Some of you don't seem to understand how long 5 years is.

He looked really, really good given the circumstances, and I have no doubt he'd be a top placer if he kept going.

I just want to see Ken commentate again. It was biased, loud, and active. Incredible entertainment IMO. Also cool hearing him talk about old school stuff with other old school players or talk about how all the socal players started out playing at his bi-weeklies. The dynamic between him and HugS/him and Lovage was probably the best commentary I've seen outta socal.
