I'm not going to argue that it is acceptable for people to own wild animals as pets, but domesticated animals were bred to be kept in captivity. People were not. People can make it on their own in the world, domesticated animals nearly always cannot, and when they do it is rarely in their original habitat. Why do I have to do that? I was first asking why ownership of an animal is acceptable.
Its slavery if I don't force it to do anything (cept stay with me). At least not in some way ethically different from having a pet.
Farming doesn't count, I'm not arguing "fur is murder", I'm perfectly fine with owning and killing animals to make or obtain something useful or essential.
Also about the animals that find their way back to they enclosure, thats no different than a human escaping from a prison, only the find that the prison was on an island far from his home. It doesn't mean he wouldn't be happier if he hadn't been imprisoned in the first place.
Animals in zoos and enclosures are often either rescued animals or just straight up bred in captivity. It would be cruel and dangerous to release most of them, as they have no homes or social skills with the animals that dwell in their natural habitats. They would not know the terrain nor be equipped to survive.
Can you prove that an animal would be happier in the wild rather than in a humane, well kept zoo? You can find an unhappy animal at the zoo, but you can also find plenty suffering in the wild. Have fun trying to get proof either way without some major scientific study that would vary from species to species. There seems to be lots of hypothetical situations and assumptions in your posts to try and raise a philosophical point that just isn't there.
On that note I am going to sleep. You should too, Tesh. I think your sleep deprivation is affecting your posting.
