Guys, guys. Imagine if Joker's Classic Mode is a reinactment of the Palace Rulers in the game with him fighting fighters who are stand-ins for the Shadows. If so, who would be Kamoshida/Madarame/Kaneshiro/Futaba/Okumura/Sae/Shido?

Hey, we discussed this back during the dark ages when I thought this was a pipe-dream!

Well, we have 6 stages + a boss... Think we can cover the Seven Deadly Sins with the Smash cast using characters and stages to represent the main P5 bosses?

Spoiler: P5 Bosses

Lust: Captain Falcon on Princess Peach's Castle (cf. the Castle)
Vanity: Bowser Junior on Mario Maker (because art? I dunno if there is a good Museum option)
Gluttony: Kirby and Wario on Shadow Moses Island (cf. the Bank)
Wrath: Giant Falco on Mushroomy Kingdom Omega-Form (cf. the Desert)
Greed: Two ROBS and King K Rool on Lylat Cruise (cf. the Spaceship)
Envy: Bayonetta on New Donk City (cf. the Casino)
Pride (Final Boss): Crazy Hand

I think that's a... decent selection? I dunno.

Ah man... After the writeups I did in this thread and others, all over reddit in both the Smash and Persona 5 subs, and telling all my friends why he's being slept on, here he is. Not only is he here, but he's the first DLC character. I am beyond words excited for this. This was my one wish for Smash, and its coming so soon. Congrats, everyone! Let's steal some hearts!

EDIT: Also, the sweet satisfaction of making all the "Persona is a spinoff franchise so it can't possibly get something" detractors eat their own **** is good. I'm not usually the type to want to rub something in someone else's face, but I've never been more excited for something in gaming, soooooo I think I'll take this one.

Everyone who was here for the ride in the long run, I'm so happy. We made it, now it feels almost as if we're family. Words cannot describe how great it feels to be a Persona fan, what a way for us to finish off 2018. I'm proud of you guys for hanging onto the dream.

P.S. The Persona Train 2018 isn't done just yet. Persona 5: The Animation Dark Sun TV Special is airing on the 30th!

Congratulations to all P5 fans who have supported Joker. I personally haven't played it yet, but I would like to study up on Joker now that he is in. Anyone have any idea what his moveset might look like? I'm particularly interested in his persona summons... If Yu made it in, I could imagine a moveset easily since I know the character, and he has appeared in fighting games before. Joker is new territory for me, I have no idea what he is like other than being a thief.

But seriously, I'm very happy Persona is getting representation in Smash, and I can only hope Joker's inclusion means Nintendo and SEGA are going to continue cooperating in deeper and more meaningful ways.

I will say, Joker is one of the few SMTverse characters I wouldn't mind having in Smash, and now that list is even smaller. While I was trying to temper my expectations throughout the entire VGAs, the three adverts being played was making it obvious that it was tipping me off towards a reveal. Man, that reveal, even without Sakurai around they pulled off a troll move with such aplomb. The only reason I didn't show even more excitement towards it was because I didn't want to wake anyone up.

In all seriousness, I just beat Persona 5 last month and it easily became one of my favourite games of all time. I never thought he had much of a chance of getting into SSB but I am so happy to have been proven wrong and I really regret not joining the support list. Congratulations to everyone on this thread who supported him from the start.

Persona is a series with history (first game was in 96), ATLUS has a history with Nintendo consoles, Persona 5 has critical acclaim etc.

Yeah, it's the fifth installment of a long-running RPG series that started as a spinoff of Shin Megami Tensei. SMT started on Nintendo consoles and still gets exclusive games to this day, while Persona is mostly on Sony ones (but has two exclusive 3DS titles - in fact, the first 3DS title, Persona Q, is the reason I have a 3DS XL. The limited edition design based on it is gorgeous.) And, yes, Joker has been a major part of Persona Q2's marketing.

He's slowly becoming ATLUS's most recognizable face, so him being in is tribute to everything they've done with Nintendo through the years as well as an incredibly hype first choice that still managed to be unexpected.

I'm still shaking over it and I just slept on it.

Congratulations to all the supporters in this thread! I've been planning on playing P5 soon so I'm kinda happy with his inclusion too. He looks pretty appealing and I'm sure he's provided with a great moveset. He's a great addition.

I expected a Tokyo Mirage rep before a Persona one, but this is so much better. We might get songs from other Persona games, too, but even if we don't, the P5 OST is solid.

Hey guys, I'm from the K. Rool boards mostly, here to give you all a congratulations, and a hope that all goes well for your character. I'm sure it's no secret that some in our Smash community, in their infinite respect and elegance, harbor resentment and entitlement when a character they think is "undeserving" makes it to Smash. Granted this may not be a problem since Persona seems pretty popular, I just haven't had the honor to play it yet. Still, some might rag on Joker for not being a Nintendo character, and this slander might be even worse if he has the temerity of being a good or even great character competitively. Still, you guys don't deserve that and I hope you don't get too much hate. I await playing as this guy, now excuse me as I do some research on why he will be an awesome character

Welp, sorry Mewtwo, but you're getting bumped down to secondary. I never thought this day would ever come. I'd always like to see some Persona representation, but I always figured SMT would take priority, being the originally the main franchise. I definitely under-estimated how big Persona has become, and now the series only going to get bigger with Joker in the game. Hopefully we get some gameplay soon. Satanael has to be the Final Smash. I'm hoping we get a deluge of musics not just from P5, but P3 and P4 too.

I'm pretty picky when it comes to third-parties in Smash. But I think Joker's a good choice! The SMT series has a long history on Nintendo and has carved itself a respectable niche into gaming culture altogether. P5's a solid RPG too. Welcome aboard, Joker!

(hopefully this isn't the only beloved JRPG series rep we get for DLC though!)
